What changed

  • Collapse the Wework composer in short split panes to a single text line and a smaller send button.
  • Hide feature and secondary action controls until the composer is focused or clicked.
  • Animate expansion and collapse while respecting reduced-motion preferences.
  • Keep the composer expanded when attachments, code comments, modes, or pending context must remain visible.
  • Add Chinese and English workbench documentation.

Why

In vertically constrained split panes, the regular composer and toolbar consumed too much of the conversation area. The first compact version also retained the regular text line box and toolbar height, which made the send button appear vertically misaligned.

Impact

Short panes now use a 36px collapsed composer with a 20px text line height and a centered 24px send button. Clicking the composer restores the full controls; clicking outside collapses it again.

Validation

  • pnpm test src/components/chat/ChatInput.test.tsx src/components/chat/composer/ComposerToolbar.test.tsx src/components/layout/workbenchPaneStack.test.tsx
  • Wework pre-push ESLint, TypeScript, and unit-test checks
  • Real isolated Tauri verification of collapsed and expanded states

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added an adaptive chat composer for short workbench panes.
    • The composer collapses to a compact single-row layout when idle and expands on focus or interaction.
    • The composer remains expanded when attachments, comments, settings, or other pending context are present.
    • Added reduced-motion support for composer transitions.
  • Documentation

    • Documented the new composer behavior in English and Chinese.

After more reviews become available, a review can be triggered using the @coderabbitai review command as a PR comment. Alternatively, push new commits to this PR.

To avoid repeated limits, reduce automatic review volume by pausing incremental auto-reviews earlier, using label-based review opt-in, excluding WIP or generated PR titles, or requesting reviews manually when the PR is ready. How do review limits work?

CodeRabbit enforces per-developer PR review limits for each organization. Most developers receive the normal plan review availability.

For paid Pro and Pro+ PR reviews, CodeRabbit uses adaptive limits for sustained high-volume activity. When a developer's recent PR review activity reaches the 95th percentile or higher among CodeRabbit users, additional reviews become available more gradually as earlier reviews age out of the rolling window.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The workbench now supports compact composer behavior in short split panes. The composer collapses when idle, expands on focus or selection, collapses after focus leaves, and remains expanded when pending context requires visibility.

Changes

Short-pane composer behavior

Layer / File(s) Summary
Pane container setup
wework/src/components/layout/workbenchPaneStack.module.css, wework/src/components/layout/workbenchPaneStack.tsx
The workbench pane now provides a named size container. Short panes receive reduced desktop chat footer padding.
Composer state and toolbar wiring
wework/src/components/chat/composer/ProjectChatComposer.tsx, wework/src/components/chat/composer/ComposerToolbar.tsx
The composer tracks short-pane expansion, checks collapse eligibility, and responds to focus and outside interaction. Toolbar groups and primary actions expose styling markers.
Responsive layout and validation
wework/src/components/chat/composer/ProjectChatComposer.module.css, wework/src/components/chat/ChatInput.test.tsx, docs/en/wework/workbench.md, docs/zh/wework/workbench.md
Container queries implement compact and expanded layouts, control visibility, animation, and reduced-motion behavior. Tests and documentation cover the new interaction states.

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~25 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 3b43c

The short-pane composer can collapse while a draft contains text, making that draft less visible and harder to edit, and the changed stylesheet currently fails linting. These issues should be fixed before merge; the requested additional end-to-end coverage is follow-up rather than a merge blocker.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Do not collapse a composer that contains a draft.

canCollapseInShortPane does not check hasText. When the container query matches, a non-empty initial draft can start compact. A typed draft also collapses after blur or an outside interaction. The compact CSS then limits the input to one line.

Add !hasText to the collapse condition. Add regression coverage for an initial draft and a typed draft.

Remove the invalid :global selector.

Stylelint reports :global as an unknown pseudo-class on this selector. This blocks linting for the changed stylesheet. The attribute selector is already global, so remove :global.
