Stairwell
New in 2019 is a ship/water theme for the stairwell.
We have a particularly creaky bit of wood floor in the hallway just outside of our bedroom door, so I recorded this, slowed it down, and added a few filters to make it sound like a wooden ship creaking. I then mixed in this Large Wooden Ship public domain (Creative Commons 0) sound by PimFeijen on Freesound.org. The combination of the two makes for a nicely randomized sound, especially when looped for a six-hour loop. The two tracks are of slightly different lengths, so the looped mix subtly changes over time.
Currently this is a separate audio system with an old iPod providing playback and a small powered speaker sitting on the stairwell shelf, aiming at the ceiling to diffuse the sound over the space.
- Combine stairwell audio with master audio system
- Add multiple speakers for surround effect
- Create thunderstorm audio for stairwell when volcano erupts
This is a simple water ripples projector that's set on a shelf and projects onto the ceiling. When on the blue color and set to slow speed, this looks pretty decent for the water ripples. (This particular model also has a red mode, and on the fast speed, this looks like it will make a good volcano flame effect.)
- Set up a Raspberry Pi Zero W to act as an OSC receiver and use these instructions to set up a universal remote that can learn the remote control settings for the projector, and trigger a change to red and fast settings when the volcano erupts, and back to blue/slow for idle mode.
- Filter the projector "water" light to be more teal? (How will this impact the red?)
