I’m not familiar enough with Vite’s environment API to fully validate the details, but overall this looks good. Two findings from an agent review seem worth checking:
- configEnvironment is now limited to an environment named client. The previous plugin applied outDir to every environment as part of the Nitro fix. Nitro appears to identify client environments using config.consumer === 'client', so a client environment could potentially have another name. Was this narrowing intentional? If so, a short comment explaining why other environments should remain untouched would help.
- The new test exercises the Adonis-style config hook, but not the Nitro-style configEnvironment hook. Could we add a clobbering configEnvironment that sets emptyOutDir: true and a different outDir for client? Optionally, a differently named client-consumer environment could lock down the intended scope as well.

Good idea! I've strengthened the test to check both properties. |

Closes #32245
What I did
Prevented Vite plugins from messing with
emptyOutDirwhich causes Storybook builds to lose files. We previously had this logic in place for user-written config but it didn't catchpostenforce changes made by users' plugins.Checklist for Contributors
