Attribute values are not escaped, while text content is.
renderInlinePrimitiveValue escapes &, <, >, and {{ for text children. Static attribute values take a different path: line 148 returns value.value unchanged, and formatRenderedProp only adds quotes. A story arg such as label: 'a & b' or label: 'a {{ x }} b' is then re-parsed by the Vue compiler, so the reader sees a & b or an interpolation the story never produced.
Escape & and {{ for the quoted attribute path so the printed snippet reproduces the arg value.

Prevent duplicate component bindings in generated imports.
When a static story renderer references the meta component, merge imports by local binding. Exact-string deduplication can emit both the overridden and original imports for the same binding, which makes the generated snippet invalid.

Preserve component aliases or use the runtime fallback.
A mapping such as components: { Button: MyButton } retains <Button /> in the template but emits an import for MyButton. The generated SFC does not declare Button or register the alias, so Vue cannot resolve the component.
Reject mappings where pascalCase(tagName) !== component.name, or retain the tag-to-local-name mapping and emit an aliased import or explicit component registration.

Routes h() props through the same classifier the story's own args use, so a slot written into the render tree renders like one passed through args. Makes the h() printer emit markup Vue can compile: void elements self-close, a component tag is only printed when its import can be declared, text children are escaped, and nested children are indented. Moves the function-slot renderer and the component-import sink onto RenderContext, which the renderers already thread everywhere, and splits the shared render primitives out of render-sfc so the callback indirection can go. Collapses the returned-expression helpers in csf-tools into one primitive plus a path variant, and reads the @import override from the CSF meta docblock the fixture documents.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Preserve the enclosing render arguments for slot functions.
At Line 146, renderHSlotFunction replaces the outer argument context with args: [] and omits argsParam. A slot closure such as default: () => h('span', args.label) then cannot resolve args.label. The renderer returns undefined instead of generating the snippet.
Pass the current args and argsParam through renderSlotArgContent, renderHSlotFunction, and renderSlotsObject. Add a snapshot case for a slot closure that reads a story argument.

Preserve the enclosing render context when processing slot closures: pass the
current args and argsParam through renderSlotArgContent, renderHSlotFunction,
and renderSlotsObject, and have renderHSlotFunction forward them to renderHNode
instead of replacing args with an empty array. Add the requested snapshot
coverage for a slot closure that reads a story argument.

What I did
Follow-up to #35839, based on
julien/story-docs-5-polish. Theh()snippet generator prints markup Vue cannot compile in a few cases, and it classifies props with its own copy of the rules instead of the oneargsalready go through, so the same story renders differently depending on how it is written. This PR makes both paths use one classifier, fixes the printer, and folds the plumbing the feature grew into the render context that was already being passed around.Big thanks to @huang-julien for the h() support, the bail-case coverage in
transform-h.test.tsmade all of this pretty straightforward to verify 🙂One classifier instead of two
transform-hre-derived role, event name, and plan from raw AST and looked the role up in the story's classified args. That is a second, weaker copy ofclassifyArgs, and it never handled function values, so identical stories disagreed:classifyArgsis now split into the per-arg rule and the story-level aggregation, so both callers share the rule:argForObjectProperty, expandArgs, and the two name-keyed maps are gone.Markup the snippet can actually compile
Captured from a real run on
julien/story-docs-5-polishand on this branch:{{ … }}in a string literal is escaped the same way, so a literal stays text instead of becoming an interpolation. This one also fixes the pre-existing slot path, not justh().Nested children used to come out as a single line at any depth, while the SFC and template renderers indented:
Text children stay inline, since breaking them would introduce whitespace Vue renders.
Plumbing folded into the render context
renderFunctionSlotwas an optional trailing parameter on seven functions across three files, paired with aSetmutated as an out-param. Every one of those functions already receivesctx, so both now live there:The callback existed to route around a cycle:
render-sfc.tswas both a primitives library and the SFC assembler. Splitting the primitives intorender-primitives.tsletsrender-sfcandtransform-templateimporttransform-hdirectly.render-sfc.tsgoes from 311 lines to 66. The "collect slot imports per attempt so a bailing story contributes none" discipline is now structural: the context is per-attempt, so a bail discards its imports with it.csf-tools: one returned-expression primitive
There were five near-duplicate versions of "what does this function return", two with different semantics (first-return vs. single-statement-only) composed in sequence, plus a
returnedExpressionPathpath/node overload resolved by a duck-typing guard:Now
returnedExpressionowns the rule, returnedExpressionPathnavigates to the slot it validated, andreturnedObjectExpressionis expressed in terms of it.objectReturnedFromBlock(transform-template) and the localreturnedExpression(classify-args) are deleted.resolveReturnedObjectExpressionmoves into csf-tools, sotransform-template.test.tsstops carrying a verbatim copy of the production helper.unwrapValuegoes back to a single non-nullable signature. The nullable overload had one real caller and left six deadif (!value)guards behind it.The @import override
The
import-overridefixture puts the tag on the CSFmetadocblock, and the PR description says the CSF side is the supported path because vue-component-meta cannot surface component-level tags. The code only readdocgenPayload.jsDocTags.import, and the harness hardcoded that value, so the fixture was inert:jsDocTagsForPathnow reads the meta docblock, the harness stub no longer injectsjsDocTags, and deleting the docblock fails the snapshot the way it should:A component-level tag still wins over nothing when a backend does surface one.
Behaviour removed on purpose
returnedObjectExpressionused to accept a render function whose block body had statements around thereturn. It is now single-statement only, matching whatsetupReturnObjectalready required for the same reason: an extra statement can change what the returned expression evaluates to, and a static reader cannot follow it. Such a story bails to runtime source instead of getting a snippet built from a template it may not actually render.Checklist for Contributors
