Rule-17 review of #2881 at b041332: approve. A faithful move with one new parameter. No payload changes, and my checks pass.
The move: grammar/schema.rs is exactly the 152 lines removed from xtml.rs, plus its module doc and pub(super) on shape, Definitions and Definitions::of. The one semantic line is "string" => Some(("string", text())). xtml.rs passes its own any_value, so Kimi K3's argument shapes are unchanged.
No payload moves. I checked at 9836607 merged on main 21d5e44:
- Kimi K3 vs
KimiK3Parser::build_structural_tag, over 14 tool sets and both flags: the same 56 payloads as at #2880, equal except for"type": "tag". - Every table's grammar (180): identical to #2880's.
- The ways-in probe (
two_doors, MiniMax M3 declared as XTML,into_the_block, Kimi K3): identical to #2880's. - GLM and DSML vs the old builders: 36 of 36 equal.
Gates. I ran them at 9836607 merged on main 21d5e44, with Rust 1.98.0, its own target dir and -j 2; each exited 0:
cargo +nightly fmt -p smg-symphony --checkcargo clippy -p smg-symphony --all-targets --all-features -- -D warningscargo test -p smg-symphony: 328 lib, 10 fixture, 7 contract and 5 README testsRUSTDOCFLAGS="-D warnings" cargo doc -p smg-symphony --no-deps
b041332 changes three lines from there, which I read. shape is now imported by name (the bot's thread), and text is now impl FnOnce() -> Grammar, which shape calls at most once. Neither changes a payload.
Rule 17:
- Fixture ids: none changed.
- Property tests: no new format.
- Protected paths: the crate's grammar module, which this stream owns. Nothing public changes, so rule 18 isn't touched.
- Trailers: the squash body carries the same six as #2880, since the moved code is the ported code. No AI trailer.
- Threads: one, answered and resolved.
The merge is the maintainer's (rule 25), after #2880.

… Kimi K3 module Kimi K3's tag reads each property's schema for the type it pins and the grammar of a value of that type, with the tool's definitions carried along so a `$ref` still resolves; the keyed syntaxes, which also write arguments one by one, will read the same. So `shape` and `Definitions` move to `grammar/schema.rs`, and `shape` takes the grammar of a string written as it is from its caller, the one thing that differs between the syntaxes. The Kimi K3 module keeps its own tags, escaping and shapes without a type. Nothing an engine sees changes. …ar once `schema::shape(schema, …)` used one word for the module and the value; the function is imported by name now, and `text` is an `FnOnce`, which is all a single call needs. …n document Each property's schema goes to the engine as a document of its own, so a `$ref` of `#` in it names the property, not the tool's schema it stood in, and the engine would be given a schema that only refers to itself. The definitions no longer keep the root, `#` resolves to nothing, and such a property takes any type and any value, like one whose pointer names nothing. The old Kimi K3 builder resolved `#` to the root and sent the self-reference on. - Line 46: Update shape so it handles type arrays with exactly one supported
non-null type, preserving that type in the argument attribute and allowing both
that type and null in the value grammar. Keep the fallback for arrays containing
multiple non-null types unless the grammar can represent them without losing
constraints.

…s as the property's own The definitions travel with a property's schema to the engine, so a pointer at nothing, or to the root, inside a definition the property names reaches the engine as surely as one in the property itself, and the check that keeps such a property untyped now follows every pointer it resolves into what it names, as far as the pointers reach. A definition that names itself is followed once, so a recursive tree keeps its schema. Rule-17 re-review of #2881 at ad49353 (rebased on main f9be4ee): comment. I'll approve once the two open threads are answered; the first needs a code change.
- Following pointers without a bound (the bot's Important thread, schema.rs:117): agreed, and it matters more than a nit. Tool schemas arrive in requests. A chain of distinct definitions adds stack frames per link,
followedonly stops cycles, and a stack overflow aborts the whole process rather than the request. A walk with an explicit stack, or a cap on the pointers followed with anything past it treated as unresolved (so the property takes any value, as a dangling pointer does), keeps one request from taking the gateway down. A test with a long chain would pin it. - Resolving against the merged definitions (CodeRabbit, schema.rs:112): agreed. The check should resolve nested pointers against the same definitions
attached_tosends to the engine, so a property's own definition shadows the root's in both places.
What holds at this head:
- Gates: fmt, clippy and doc exit 0; tests 330 lib, 10 fixture, 7 contract and 5 README.
- Every table's grammar is identical to main's (#2880 merged): 180 grammars, 0 lines differ.
- GLM and DSML vs the old builders: 36 of 36 equal.
- Kimi K3 vs the old builder:
- All 14 tool sets differ only by
"type": "tag", except the one with{"$ref": "#"}. - That property now takes any value, from d173b5e. Right, since a property compiled as its own document can't name the tool's root.
- All 14 tool sets differ only by
- Trailers: six in the squash body, and no AI trailer.
What
Stacked on #2880 (base
feat/symphony-grammar-k3), a move with one parameter, insidecrates/symphony/only.grammar/schema.rs: what a tool's JSON schema says about each argument, for the syntaxes that write arguments one by one with a type of their own.shape(schema, definitions, text)gives the type a property's schema pins, by the name the templates write, and the grammar of a value of that type;Definitionscarries the root's$defsanddefinitionsalong with a property's schema so a local$refresolves when the engine compiles it on its own. Both come out of the Kimi K3 module unchanged, except thatshapenow takes from its caller the grammar of a string written as it is: Kimi K3 passes its own (any text up to one of its markers), and the keyed syntaxes, next, will pass theirs.grammar/xtml.rskeeps what is Kimi K3's: the ways in, the call and argument tags, the attribute escaping, the shapes of an argument without a type.$refof#in it would name the property itself, and the engine would be given a schema that only refers to itself.Definitionsno longer keeps the root; such a property takes any type and any value, like one whose pointer names nothing. The old Kimi K3 builder resolved#to the root and sent the self-reference on. The check follows every pointer it resolves into the definition it names, as far as the pointers reach (a definition that names itself is followed once, and at most sixty-four pointers are followed in all, so a request's chain of definitions cannot send the walk arbitrarily deep; past that the property pins nothing), since the definitions travel with the property: a#or a pointer at nothing inside one of them counts as the property's own. Pointers resolve against the property's own$defs/definitionsbefore the root's, the documentattached_tosends.No other grammar changes: the Kimi K3 tests pin the same payloads as before, through the moved code, plus a
whole: {"$ref": "#"}property with the typeless shape and a tool whose definitions hold a pointer at nothing, one to the root and a recursive one. Nullabletypearrays (["string", "null"]) still pin nothing, in every syntax, as before this PR: a unit of its own after #2884.Gates
By exit code (
.claude/symphony/gates.sh, basefeat/symphony-grammar-k3): fmt, clippy-D warnings, test (328 lib, 10 fixture, 7 contract, 5 README), doc, width, codespell, all 0.Not in this PR
