WalkthroughThe Responses gateway now adds errors for failed generations and updates MCP call dispatch, result retention, and client-function handoffs. Apply the namespace fix to the JSON visibility helper.
should_hide_output_item_json passes only name for function_call and function_tool_call items. When the item has a namespace, pass namespace.name. Otherwise, an internal MCP tool can hide a client function with the same member name on the non-streaming path.

🟣 Pre-existing: This fix qualifies the name only in the typed filter. The JSON sibling should_hide_output_item_json (line 288 in this file, used by the HTTP/OpenAI router path via crates/external_router/src/openai/responses/utils.rs:399) still classifies function_call/function_tool_call items by the bare name field, ignoring namespace. A namespaced client function whose member name collides with an internal MCP tool would still be hidden on that code path — the exact bug this hunk fixes for the gRPC path. Since HTTP and gRPC routers must honor the same contract, consider applying the same qualified-name lookup there (the JSON item carries the namespace field when serialized from ResponseOutputItem::FunctionToolCall).

Reviewed the non-streaming MCP loop alignment, error-detail fallback, visibility fix, and the new deterministic contract tests. The non-streaming path now faithfully mirrors the streaming loop (interrupt on length/failed/error before dispatch, prefix execution under caps, call_id-based server-call filtering), and structured upstream errors correctly take precedence over the server_error fallback in both streaming paths. One 🟣 pre-existing parity gap noted inline; no blocking issues.
Description
Problem
The non-streaming Responses MCP loop could dispatch tool calls after a truncated or failed generation and return server-owned calls as client functions when a batch mixed MCP and user tools. Responses ending with a bare
failedorerrorfinish reason also lacked useful error details.Solution
Stop MCP dispatch on
length, failed, anderror; preserve earlier executed results; execute the permitted MCP prefix before returning client functions. Keep the original call identity when filtering server calls so namespaced client functions remain visible. Supply fallback failure details consistently while retaining structured upstream errors.Changes
server_errordetails in failed Responses and their supported persistence paths; preserve structured upstream errors and store regular streamed responses under their public Responses ID.Follow-up to merged #2665, addressing truncated/failed dispatch, mixed tool batches, and missing failure details.

The other hooks were rerun with only that hook skipped; the scoped strict Clippy check above passed. These are protocol tests using a scripted gRPC worker and local MCP server; no hosted OpenAI or DeepSeek API calls were made for this follow-up. Existing MCP streaming persistence remains outside this change; persistence assertions cover non-streaming Responses and the regular non-MCP streaming path.
