fix(cursor): send the catalog's default model parameters on every Cursor run - #28722
The Cursor provider sends only the model options a selection carries explicitly. A chat whose model comes from Settings' default, delegate_task without options, scheduled tasks, mobile, and Cursor text generation all reach Cursor with some or all parameters missing. Cursor Plus rejects those runs with "Model unavailable on Plus … with fixed settings". The reporter's first run on a new chat sent {"model":{"id":"grok-4.5"}} and failed. Later runs that carried params succeeded.
Reproduced on main 1d626d0 with the web dev server and the real Cursor SDK 1.0.38 (API key, not a Plus account). With Settings' default set to Cursor Grok 4.5, a new thread sent its first prompt without anyone opening the picker. The composer showed "Grok 4.5 High", but run.start carried only fast=false.
Change
cursorSdkModelSelection now takes the provider's catalog. For every parameter the model advertises and the selection leaves unset, it sends the catalog default, which is the value the picker shows. Options the selection carries still win. An unset Fast is sent as off, matching the web composer's existing rule (withImplicitFastModeDefault). Models missing from the catalog send only their explicit options, as before.
The adapter passes its catalog (getModels) at agent open and on every send. The driver passes the same catalog to Cursor text generation.
vp test run packages/provider-cursor/src/server/: 14 files, 105 tests pass. The two new tests fail without the fix:
adapter.test.ts, "sends every catalog parameter when the selection leaves them unset": on main, agent.create and the first run.start get no params, and a run with only fastMode:false lacks effort.
textGeneration.test.ts, "sends every catalog parameter when the selection leaves them unset": Agent.create got a bare model id.
driver.test.ts: the catalog-default handoff case now expects params: [context=1m] instead of a bare id.
vp run check:changed passes.
Runtime transcript from the web dev server on a fresh database (T3CODE_DEV_SEED=0), real Cursor SDK, run.start options from the provider event log:
# before: main 1d626d02d9
pick Grok 4.5 in the picker, send: params [effort=high, fast=false]
new thread reusing the picked model: params [effort=high, fast=false]
Settings default {cursor, grok-4.5}, picker untouched, send: params [fast=false] <- effort missing
# after: fix/issue-28713 f85838ff22, same steps as the last row
agent.create: params [fast=false, effort=high]
run.start: params [fast=false, effort=high] -> run finished, assistant replied
Not verified: acceptance on a real Cursor Plus account (none available). The reporter's logs show params on 63 of 63 successful runs and on none of the 9 failures. Cursor text generation is covered by its unit test only. Server-only change, so there are no screenshots.

Adds a failing adapter test: with a grok-4.5 catalog from getModels, a
selection with no options (Settings default) and one with only fastMode
false both reach the Cursor SDK without the catalog's effort default, at
agent open and on send. These tests reproduce #28713.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Cursor rejects runs on some plans ("Model unavailable on Plus ... with fixed
settings") when the model selection leaves a catalog parameter unset. New
chats using the Settings default, delegate_task without options, scheduled
tasks and mobile all sent incomplete selections.
cursorSdkModelSelection now fills each option the selection leaves unset from
the model's catalog descriptor default, with Fast sent as off. The adapter
passes its catalog at agent open and on every run. Models missing from the
catalog keep sending only their explicit options.

Thread titles and commit or PR text built through Cursor sent a bare
model id, which Cursor Plus rejects the same way it rejects chat runs.

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — Cursor runs now send catalog defaults for unspecified parameters, while keeping Fast mode off unless explicitly selected. These default execution choices require human confirmation; explicit user selections remain authoritative.

Cursor model selection now adds eligible catalog defaults to SDK parameters when explicit options do not provide them. The adapter and text-generation paths pass the current model catalog into selection.

pingdotgg/t3code#16149 — Reports omitted Cursor catalog parameters, including context defaults, for delegated and untouched threads. This change derives missing parameters from catalog defaults.
Cursor runs now send the catalog's default model parameters, but a chat started before the initial model catalog loads can still go out without them. This is a narrow startup window and the change is otherwise an improvement, so the merge risk is low.

Explanation
The title names the fix and its main change: unset Cursor model parameters are now filled from the catalog defaults on every Cursor run. The changeset matches this. It adds a catalog argument to cursorSdkModelSelection, passes the catalog from the adapter and text generation, and adds tests for catalog defaults such as effort=high and fast=false. The title follows conventional commit form and fits the 76-character length.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections. The Problem section explains the failure and gives reproduction context. The Change section explains the catalog-default behavior and the adapter and driver wiring. The Scope section links issue #28713 and related issues and states the triage path. The Verification section lists focused test commands, which tests fail without the fix, a runtime transcript, and the items not verified. The description does not state whether the change needs maintainer approval beyond a triaged issue flow, but the linked issue covers the required approval context. The template's agent-model line is present at the end.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #28713 requires fixed or default Cursor parameters on the first run. cursorSdkModelSelection fills unset catalog parameters, keeps explicit options, and sends fast=false when Fast is unset. adapter.ts passes the catalog to agent creation and sends. textGeneration.ts passes the catalog to Cursor text generation. The reported adapter and text-generation tests cover the default-parameter behavior. The implementation therefore meets the linked coding requirement.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes stay within the Cursor model-parameter scope of issue #28713. The modified production files update shared selection serialization and pass the catalog through adapter, driver, and text-generation paths. The test changes verify those paths. No unrelated product behavior is shown in the reviewed change summary.

Do not silently start an option-free run before the catalog is ready.
catalogModels starts empty, and the managed provider forks its initial refresh instead of awaiting it. The existing test reaches ensureThread and startTurn while that refresh is pending, but its explicit "1m" option hides the empty-catalog case. With no explicit options, cursorSdkModelSelection(..., []) omits params, so agent.create can lack required catalog parameters.
startTurn resolves the model again before run.start, so a refresh between agent.create and run.start can repair the first run. The unrepairable case occurs only when the catalog is still empty at run.start. Gate the first agent/run on catalog readiness or return a retryable error, and add an option-free pre-refresh case that checks both agent.create and run.start.

Not changing this here. A run sent before the first catalog load goes out exactly as it does on main today, so this PR doesn't regress it: it fixes every run after the catalog is loaded, which is the reported case (a new chat, sent long after startup). The catalog loads on the provider's first check at startup, and a later refresh that fails keeps the last catalog (driver.test.ts, retainedDefault). Holding runs until that check finishes, or failing them with a retryable error, would add a readiness gate to every Cursor turn for a window of a few seconds. That's a separate change if it shows up in practice.

The account's models.list() returns 4 models, each with one value per parameter, so the catalog defaults this PR sends are exactly what Plus accepts.
In 0.1.6 itself: a delegate_task to cursor/grok-4.7 with those 3 options finished. An untouched thread sent bare {id: "grok-4.7"} and {id: "grok-4.6"} and failed 4 of 4 runs.
