Muse [ T3 Code ] feat(desktop): persist theme source and restore it at startup (#855) - #25902
The desktop theme choice lived only in renderer localStorage. The main process never persisted it, so after a restart the first window was created with the system appearance before the renderer restored the saved choice: on a light-mode system a saved dark theme flashed light on the first frame, and the native title bar / window background did not match the saved preference at startup.
Change
Persist the theme source (system / light / dark) in the main process via electron-store (schema-validated); ElectronTheme.setSource writes it.
Restore the saved source in DesktopLifecycle.register before the first window is created.
Review fix: read and re-apply the persisted source inside a single caught effect. A malformed theme.json makes source fail before setSource's own catch could run; the failure now only logs and registration continues instead of aborting startup. Added a regression test for that case.
Scope and approval
Desktop app only (apps/desktop). The fast-merge prerequisites UnsafeLabs/Bounty-Hunters#270 and UnsafeLabs/Bounty-Hunters#611 were not completed; this PR is submitted for normal review. contributor_meta.json is included at the repo root with public work notes; its session_init field intentionally does not disclose internal agent instructions.
Verification
Passed: new ElectronTheme.test.ts 4/4; DesktopLifecycle tests 7/7 including the new malformed-store regression test (verified to fail without the fix); DesktopWindow tests 20/20; desktop typecheck clean (0 errors in src/); format check clean.
Not run: lint (missing @oxlint/plugins in the sandbox), full vp run check:changed (sandbox lacks some mobile dependencies), on-device three-state (system/light/dark) verification.

Malformed userData/theme.json aborts lifecycle.register, preventing the desktop app from starting instead of falling back to the system theme. electronTheme.source is yielded before Effect.catchCause is attached, so its read failure bypasses recovery; wrap both the read and setSource in the caught effect.

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR adds persistent theme storage and restores the saved theme during desktop startup, changing existing runtime behavior and introducing new startup/file-I/O paths. A malformed persisted theme can currently abort lifecycle registration instead of falling back cleanly, so the change needs human review.

The Electron theme service now reads and persists the theme source. Desktop startup reapplies that source before window creation and continues registration if restoration fails.

DesktopLifecycle.register reads and reapplies the current theme source before registering theme-update handling. If restoration fails, it logs the error and continues registration. Test fixtures provide "system" as the source.

Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections, and it describes the root cause, the fix, and the tests run. It has three gaps. First, the Scope and approval section cites no triaged issue or maintainer approval. It says the fast-merge prerequisites were not completed, so the author does not claim an exemption. The template requires approval for this kind of behavior change, so this gap is serious. Second, the Verification section lists the tests, typecheck, and format results, and it names what was not run. It does not include a before/after check of the theme startup behavior, and the on-device three-state check was not done. Third, the description has no conventional commit title, which the template asks for. It also omits the agent/model line that the template requests at the end of Verification. Note that the description says DesktopLifecycle passes 7/7, while the objectives say 6/6. That mismatch should be resolved before merge. The description also includes contributor_meta.json, an unrelated file with work notes, which the template does not cover and which needs a reason in the Change section.
Resolution
In Scope and approval, link the triaged bug issue or maintainer discussion that approves this direction and scope, and include the approval comment. If no approval exists, state why this fix qualifies without it. Do not rely on the unmet fast-merge prerequisites. 2) Add a conventional commit title in plain language, such as "fix(desktop): restore persisted theme source at startup". 3) In Verification, state the exact observed result for the startup case, or state clearly that it was not checked. Keep the note that on-device three-state verification was not run. 4) Add the model and harness used, as the template asks. 5) Reconcile the DesktopLifecycle test count (7/7 in the description, 6/6 in the objectives summary). 6) Explain in Change why contributor_meta.json belongs in this PR, or remove it from the PR.

Added contributor_meta.json at the repo root with public work notes. Its session_init field is intentionally marked as not disclosed (that field requests the agent's verbatim initialization text); the work summary is provided in the file and in the PR body instead.
The new test confirms that registration continues after a read failure. It does not catch a regression that skips setSource for a valid saved theme. Add a test with a saved "dark" source and check that window activation observes "dark" after registration. As per path instructions, “Backend behavior changes should have focused tests.” (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Changes the desktop first-window appearance by restoring the saved native theme before window creation, but provides no before/after startup captures or recording demonstrating that the light flash and native title-bar mismatch are fixed.
Attach startup before/after captures and a short recording for a saved dark preference on a light-mode system, and verify the three theme sources.
