With Antigravity set to Agent Platform (Vertex AI), a GCP project and location, and no API key, the runtime needs Google Cloud application default credentials (ADC). It does not check for them until the first prompt. T3 reported the provider as authenticated, sign-in said "Signed in.", and the first message failed with failed to find default credentials. Settings never mentioned ADC. Fixes#23036.
Change
The Antigravity provider check, sign-in, model refresh and sessions now look for ADC where the runtime's Google client looks, in its order:
CLOUDSDK_CONFIG/application_default_credentials.json when that variable is set, else ~/.config/gcloud/... (%APPDATA%\gcloud\... on Windows), read from the instance's environment;
GCE_METADATA_HOST;
the metadata server: one direct GET to 169.254.169.254, accepted only with a Metadata-Flavor: Google reply; it runs only when no file is found, at most once per provider instance, and gives up after one second.
GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS is not checked because T3 already strips it from the runtime's environment. With none of these present, the provider shows Unavailable with: "Agent Platform without an API key needs Google Cloud application default credentials. Run gcloud auth application-default login, or enter an API key in the Antigravity provider settings." Sign-in, model refresh and sessions fail with the same text before the runtime is spawned.
Sign out skips the ADC check, so removing the credentials does not block it. The file check runs on every probe and start, so credentials created later are picked up on the next status refresh. An API key, or the other sign-in methods, skips it. The mock ACP agent now accepts the agent-platform login and the runtime's raw logout request.
Scope and approval
Bug issue #23036, no maintainer comment yet. This takes the issue's minimum ask: report the missing credentials before a thread starts. It does not add a credential-free Agent Platform sign-in. Maintainers should confirm two choices; both await maintainer review:
With no credentials file, the server probes the metadata server once per provider instance and keeps the result until the instance restarts, so a host that gains or loses metadata access needs a restart or a settings change. The probe skips any outbound proxy (--use-env-proxy, NODE_USE_ENV_PROXY), which cannot reach a link-local address. Other requests keep the proxy.
A provider snapshot cached as authenticated by an earlier sign-in keeps Account at "Signed in." while the provider row shows Unavailable. I saw this on web after signing in on base and restarting on this branch. This PR leaves cached auth state alone.
Verification
Real app, dev web and Linux desktop builds and Debug mobile builds against a T3 server whose Antigravity runtime is the repo's mock ACP agent, Agent Platform with project and location and no ADC: web and Linux desktop Settings, iOS 26.5 simulator and Android 16 emulator Provider accounts. Base and branch captures below.
vp test run src/provider/Drivers/AntigravityDriver.test.ts with the new test on main's source fails: expected 'refresh succeeded' to contain 'gcloud auth application-default login'. On this branch refresh fails with the message, nothing spawns, and after ~/.config/gcloud/application_default_credentials.json is written the next refresh is authenticated. It passes with GCE_METADATA_HOST and CLOUDSDK_CONFIG set in the calling shell.
Two more driver tests: with no local file, a metadata server reply starts the runtime and is probed once across two refreshes; after sign-in, removing the file still lets Sign out finish and the provider becomes unauthenticated.
Unit tests for the lookup (CLOUDSDK_CONFIG, GCE_METADATA_HOST, %APPDATA% on Windows with no POSIX fallback, metadata server credentials on Linux and Windows) and the probe (Google reply, other reply, transport error, no reply after one second, direct reply under an env proxy).
Focused Antigravity and mock-agent suites (17 files, 325 tests, 1 skipped by its Node version guard), format, lint and typecheck pass.
Not checked:
The real Antigravity runtime and a real Vertex AI call. The lookup order follows cloud.google.com/go/auth, whose error text the issue quotes; I did not trace it inside the runtime binary.
A real GCE VM, Cloud Run or Workstations metadata server, with or without a real proxy, and Windows.
macOS and Windows desktop builds. The Linux desktop capture runs the same Settings page as web.
Full CI suites; format, lint and typecheck ran on the server package only.

…tials are missing
Agent Platform without an API key relies on Google Cloud application
default credentials, but the Antigravity runtime starts sessions without
them, so T3 reported the provider as authenticated and the first prompt
failed with a raw credential error. The provider check and every runtime
start now look for the credentials the runtime would find and report how
to create them instead.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The runtime's Google credential lookup reads application default
credentials from CLOUDSDK_CONFIG when it is set, as gcloud writes them
there. Without it, the new check blocked Agent Platform for users whose
gcloud config lives outside ~/.config/gcloud.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…till signs out
Probe the Google metadata server, once per instance and bounded to one
second, before reporting missing application default credentials, as the
runtime's Go client does. This replaces the Linux DMI guess, which
rejected valid credentials on Windows VMs and on hosts with an unknown
product name.
Sign-out no longer checks for Google Cloud credentials, so removing them
after sign-in does not block it. Driver tests pin CLOUDSDK_CONFIG and
GCE_METADATA_HOST so the caller's shell cannot change their result.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
With --use-env-proxy or NODE_USE_ENV_PROXY, the metadata server probe
went through the global proxy dispatcher. A proxy cannot reach the
host's link-local metadata address, so valid metadata credentials were
reported as missing. The probe now uses undici's fetch on its own Agent,
like the Go client's proxy-free transport; other outbound calls keep
the proxy.

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR changes production Antigravity authentication and credential-discovery behavior, including filesystem and metadata-server checks and a sign-out path that bypasses credential validation. It also adds a static-analysis suppression directive in tests, so the changes require human review.

Antigravity authentication now checks for local application-default credentials or Google Cloud metadata access. Runtime validation uses this check. Sign-out skips credential validation, and the mock agent accepts Agent Platform authentication and raw logout requests.
Credential validation and metadata probing apps/server/src/outboundHttp.ts, apps/server/src/provider/antigravityAuthSupport.ts, apps/server/src/provider/antigravityAuthSupport.test.ts
Authentication support checks platform-specific application-default credential locations. The metadata probe uses a dedicated direct fetch, checks the Metadata-Flavor response header, and returns false on errors or timeout. Tests cover credential locations, probe outcomes, timeout, and proxy bypass.
The driver applies the authentication check during runtime creation and health probes. Tests cover missing and available credentials, metadata-server detection, and cached metadata probing.
Sign-out runtime creation skips credential validation. The mock agent accepts Agent Platform authentication and handles raw logout requests. A driver test checks logout after local credentials are removed.

The template's optional trailing agent line is present as well. The description is thorough and mostly complete.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Directly linked issue #23036 asks for two outcomes. The expected behavior asks for a credential-free Agent Platform sign-in. The issue also states a minimum: if ADC is required, provider status must report it before a thread starts instead of showing authenticated.
The minimum outcome is met at the reviewed head (41cfe34). In apps/server/src/provider/antigravityAuthSupport.ts, antigravityAuthIssue returns the missing-credentials message for authMethod agent-platform with no apiKey when all of these fail: the application_default_credentials.json file under ~/.config/gcloud (APPDATA\gcloud on Windows), and onGoogleCloud. probeGoogleMetadataServer sends a direct GET, accepts only a metadata-flavor Google reply, is bounded to one second, and returns false on error.
In apps/server/src/provider/Drivers/AntigravityDriver.ts, the check runs in the probe and in makeRuntime. Sign-out uses antigravityAuthConfigIssue only. The metadata result is cached per instance with Effect.cached. GCE_METADATA_HOST from the instance environment sets the probe host. The file check is rechecked on each use. The driver tests cover the missing-credentials case, the credentials-file case, and the metadata-present case. The credential-free sign-in path is not implemented. The PR states this choice and the issue sets the disclosure as the minimum.
Difference from the PR description: the description says CLOUDSDK_CONFIG is checked. The head code does not check CLOUDSDK_CONFIG, and the objectives say that override was removed in a later revision. This does not change the issue outcome. Real runtime lookup order, real metadata servers, and Vertex AI inference were not verified by this review.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
Each changed area supports the ADC disclosure requirement or its verification.
antigravityAuthSupport.ts: adds antigravityAuthIssue and probeGoogleMetadataServer, the core of the change.
outboundHttp.ts: adds makeDirectFetch. The metadata probe uses it so a proxy does not carry the link-local request.
AntigravityDriver.ts: applies the check in the status probe and in runtime creation. Adds the signOut option so Sign out skips the ADC check.
AntigravityAuth.ts: passes signOut: true on logout.
AntigravityDriver.test.ts and antigravityAuthSupport.test.ts: test the new lookup, probe, and sign-out behavior.
acp-mock-agent.ts: accepts the agent-platform login and the raw logout request. The new driver tests need these.
No change adds unrelated behavior. The PR does not add a credential-free sign-in flow. The changes since the previous reviewed head were checked against the head driver diff and the head support file. Those diffs support the same scope conclusion.

Probe the configured metadata host before accepting credentials.
GCE_METADATA_HOST overrides the metadata endpoint; it does not prove that the endpoint is reachable. A truthy invalid or unreachable value currently returns null before onGoogleCloud runs. The provider can therefore report authentication and start a session, while the runtime fails on its first prompt.

unverified: a successful authenticated vertex ai request, live gce metadata, windows, and native desktop/mobile clients. @only21mil, the runtime still validates credentials only on the first prompt. this preflight detects missing credentials, not expired or malformed ones. metadata discovery stays cached per provider instance. an account previously cached as signed in can keep that label until sign-out; the provider status and failed sign-in show the credential error.
