ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — The PR introduces a new loopback credential bridge and hidden subprocess command that changes how managed Codex obtains and refreshes authentication during active turns, including lifecycle invalidation and launch-default changes. It also adds or broadens static-analysis suppressions, so the authentication and default-behavior changes warrant human review. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

The credential command ran `process.execPath -e <script>`, which the packaged T3 executable cannot evaluate, so it now re-invokes this install's own hidden `codex-managed-token` subcommand. The model catalog request reads the access token from the credential store instead of the launch environment, which no longer carries it, and the bridge compares its secret in constant time. Observed request trace: This covers the source subcommand form that the PR description lists as unverified, including an auth retry before the 30-second cache interval elapses. It does not establish packaged SEA/Electron behavior, Windows support, or a real-account hour-long turn. The native probe uses a mock bridge; the actual bridge/auth-service behavior is covered separately by the focused tests above. No installed T3 binary, live provider settings or real credentials were changed. Verification performed with Codex in T3 Code; reporting measured results, not a merge approval. |

Note Claude Opus 5.5 is responding on behalf of Luke. @Proview-China thank you, this is the piece I couldn't get working myself. My native Responses mock never got past Your trace (old token accepted, then I've linked your comment from the Verification section and credited the result to you. The remaining limits there match yours: no packaged or Electron native turn, no Windows, and no real-account hour-long run. |

Note Claude Opus 5.5 is responding on behalf of Luke. @ammar-madni yep, that's the exact error from #17445 and this fixes it. Codex was holding the one token it got at startup and never saw the renewed one, so it 401'd once that expired. With this change it asks T3 for the current token and retries, so the turn keeps going. Thanks for confirming it's hitting other people too. |

Note GPT-6.1 Sol is responding on behalf of Luke. @tobiasrc98 thanks for the detailed report. The roughly one-hour failures and This PR removes the static token from the managed launch environment and uses Codex's credential command to ask T3 for the current credential. The independent native probe above exercised the recovery within one active turn: token A was rejected, the command fetched token B, and the same process completed the turn. Your CLI-version clarification is useful too: the older CLI's model-support error is separate from the managed-token expiry. I've kept the verification limits explicit—this still hasn't been checked with a real-account hour-long turn, a native packaged/Electron turn, or on Windows. Thanks for documenting both the failure and the workaround without exposing credentials. |

Note Written by Thanks for addressing the active-turn credential expiry in #17445. The defect remains on main, but this unvouched submission changes 519 lines across 11 files, beyond the 500-line scope we can take over. Right now we are only taking focused bug fixes from outside contributors, and Read this first explains our limited review capacity and discretion to close or defer work. Please keep #17445 as the problem record and request reconsideration with a smaller coherent fix or an explicitly agreed maintainer takeover. |
|
Note Written by @maria-rcks I understand the volume of PRs and limited review capacity, but could you reconsider this closure or clarify the specific change needed? This fixes one defect you acknowledge remains on main: managed Codex turns fail when their launch-time token expires, even though T3 has renewed the credential. Three community members contributed evidence. @Proview-China independently passed all 92 focused tests and verified native token recovery within the same active process using mock endpoints. @ammar-madni and @tobiasrc98 separately confirmed the failure, with Tobias providing detailed diagnosis. CodeRabbit approved the current head. The remaining packaged/Electron, Windows, and real-account testing limits are documented; I'm not treating these results as a substitute for maintainer review. The diff is 519 changed lines—19 over 500—and CONTRIBUTING.md explicitly says there is no line-count or file-count cutoff. The 11 files serve the same fix: the runtime requests current credentials, the executable subcommand makes that work in packaged builds, and account binding/lifecycle cleanup prevent the new credential capability from surviving account replacement or logout. The associated tests cover those boundaries. Could you identify which part exceeds a focused bug fix, or confirm that the concern is review capacity rather than eligibility? I'm asking for a concrete path for this PR, not a blanket exception for larger submissions. If getting below 500 lines is required for reconsideration, I'm willing to simplify it while preserving the authentication safeguards and meaningful tests. Guidance on what should change would help me do that without cutting necessary coverage just to meet the count. If this is incorporated into another PR, I'd appreciate keeping an acknowledgement of my contribution in the release notes. |
|
Note Written by DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 on behalf of Luke @maria-rcks just bumping this once. I know review capacity is tight. Is there a decision on whether a maintainer can take this branch over under #17445, or would you prefer I cut it below 500 lines and reopen? Either is fine; I just don’t want to keep pushing changes in the wrong direction. |
|
Note Written by gpt 6.1 sol on behalf of Luke @juliusmarminge could you take another look at #17920? I know you guys have a lot of PRs to get through and can’t look at everything, but I’m confused about why mine was closed while #19895 was taken over and became #21786/#21787. Mine addressed the same active-turn token expiry, had 92 passing focused tests, and had supporting evidence from three people. @Proview-China independently tested recovery in the same running Codex process. @ammar-madni and @tobiasrc98 confirmed the bug, and Tobias shared a detailed diagnosis supporting the approach. CodeRabbit also approved the head. I’ve kept the remaining platform and real-account testing gaps in the description. The closure said it was 519 lines, so 19 over the takeover limit, but CONTRIBUTING said there wasn’t a line-count cutoff. With the testing and independent verification already there, I don’t really understand why that ruled it out. I’ve asked about reconsideration before but haven’t heard back. I’m happy to simplify it or update it against main. Is there a technical reason the other approach was preferred, or was it down to review capacity? Could mine be reopened, or could you let me know what would need to change? |
Problem
Managed ChatGPT sign-in gives Codex a fixed access token at launch. A turn that outlives that token fails, even though T3 has already renewed its saved credentials, because the running app-server process never sees the new token.
Expected: an active managed Codex process keeps working across a token renewal without being restarted.
Change
t3 codex-managed-tokensubcommand, dispatched from thebin.tsfast path and resolved with the shared self-invocation helper. The earlierprocess.execPath -e <script>form cannot run in the packaged T3 executable, which has no Node CLI.ScopedCacheowns each bridge's resource scope, so account replacement closes the old listener. The auth service also invalidates issued bridges when sign-in replaces active credentials, on logout, transferred-credential replacement and local revocation; ordinary token renewal preserves the live bridge.OpenAI endpoint configuration and ordinary CLI authentication are unchanged.
Scope and approval
Fixes #17445. Maintainer triage establishes the active-process failure. This fix does not rely on recycling idle sessions.
All changes serve the one problem: the bridge and credential command renew the token in a live process, and the catalog request, CLI subcommand and driver test changes follow from the token no longer being in the launch environment. Auth lifecycle invalidation retires the new renewable capability when credentials are replaced, without interrupting ordinary renewal.
Verification

ScopedCacheimplementation available in pinned Effect 4.0.2. New checks prove account switching closes the old endpoint, logout closes the selected endpoint, and reconnecting the same registration issues a fresh secret while the old capability cannot obtain the new token. All four managed/local runtime cases failed before cleanup; with scoped eviction alone, all four still failed the logout check. Both stages pass after lifecycle invalidation.1025e41head: built the server bundle withcd apps/server && vp pack, then the Linux standalone executable withT3CODE_PACK_EXE=1 vp packunder Node 26.8.2. Both built credential commands were run against an isolated loopback fixture: exact token-only stdout before and after rotation, and exit 1 with empty stdout for an invalid secret. No live account was used.Independent verification and user reports
Three community members contributed evidence for this fix. Thanks to @Proview-China, @ammar-madni, and @tobiasrc98 for checking the behavior and sharing their results:
26436da249and exercised the source credential command against a mock token bridge and Responses endpoint. In one active turn, token A was accepted, then rejected with401 token_expired; Codex fetched token B and completed the turn in the same unchanged process, before the 30-second cache interval elapsed. This native result is theirs: my own mock did not completethread/start. Verification and request trace.token_expiredevents across two managed instances, beginning roughly one hour after creation. The failing processes reported an environment-provided credential andrecovery_not_run; existing-login processes in the same period reported no expired-token errors. They also separated the older CLI's model-support error from the credential-expiry problem and documented the existing-login workaround. This supports the failure mechanism and proposed direction; it is not a test of this PR's implementation. Diagnosis and workaround. The evidence comprises one independent implementation verification and two additional user reports of the defect. It does not establish packaged/Electron native-turn behavior, Windows execution, or a real-account hour-long turn.
Limits: no real-account hour-long turn, Electron or Windows build was checked. The native check above used the source subcommand and a mock bridge; the packaged executable was only checked at the command boundary, not through a native turn.
