feat(web): subagent rows show model, effort, and fast mode - #17420
The "N subagents" panel told you each subagent's title, status, and runtime, but not what it was running on. When I fan work out to a mix of models, efforts, and fast mode, I had to hover each row or open the child thread to see which was which.
Each row now shows the model, then the reasoning effort, with the same bolt icon the hover card uses when the subagent runs in Fast or Ultrafast mode. Normal speed shows nothing. Mobile rows show the same details as text after the provider name.
The details come only from where they're reliable:
Codex-native subagents report their own selection, so they get model, effort, and speed.
Delegated (delegate_task) subagents now record a snapshot of the selection they were launched with. Their child thread's selection can change on later turns, so it's no longer the source of truth. Subagent records created before this change still fall back to the child thread.
Claude-native subagents don't report effort or speed, so they show the model only. Their child thread's selection is inherited from the parent, not what the provider actually ran, and ThreadRelationshipsControl.agents.test.tsx already guards against inferring from it.
Speed is only shown when the model's catalog actually offers that option. Service tiers only count for Codex and match by option id. Ambiguous duplicate tier ids show no speed. The row and the hover card now share one resolver in client-runtime.
Before and after use the same real Codex Luna delegated task in an isolated dev server. The before capture renders main's lifecycle row against the same stored task.
Takeover verification
Merged current main without rebasing. Preserved main's status labels. Omitted uncertain Claude-native effort, including when its provider is unavailable. Kept the shared effort ids, including Antigravity's thinking_level. Remote launches now retain their selection, and remote rows and tooltips use the destination catalog.
Blacksmith: vp run check:changed passed formatting, lint, knip, GraphQL, nine-package typecheck, 32 focused tests and React Compiler checks. Regression assertions failed before the fixes for inherited effort, ambiguous tiers and missing remote launch selection.
Real Codex Luna parent and delegated child completed through T3. Playwright with system Chrome verified the inline model/effort, matching hover details, and opening the child thread.
Two independent read-only reviews approved 273261e.
Native mobile, desktop shell and linked-environment browser behavior remain unverified. Shared logic, mobile types/compiler, and remote orchestration tests passed.
Original implementation by Claude Opus 5.5 in T3 Code through the Claude Code harness. Takeover by gpt-6.1-sol through the Codex harness.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Subagent rows now display model, effort, and speed using recorded selections, with fallbacks for older records. The changes affect display metadata rather than execution settings or product defaults.

Walkthrough
Delegated-task records and live subagent data now carry model selections. A shared resolver checks selections against the provider instance and model, then derives effort and speed traits. Mobile and web subagent views display available traits with model labels. Tests cover selection precedence and supported option values.

No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated exposure change is an additional copy of launch settings on the parent record. The parent already identifies the child, which already receives that selection. At the inspected RPC boundary, projection and event reads use the same existing environment read scope for either thread. This is counterevidence to a new independently authorized disclosure, not proof about uninspected external authorization.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — No PR-introduced privilege escalation or execution-control bypass was established. The new snapshot copies settings already used for child creation and dispatch, while the newly shared entrypoint returns display traits rather than changing runtime permissions. Unclassified option sensitivity remains a proof gap, not a verified disclosure.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Model and provider-instance matching constrain display provenance; they are not authorization controls. The existing MCP delegated-task read path separately checks caller-thread ownership and app-owned child linkage. These controls should not be confused with the broader RPC read scope.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — Creation checks that the parent run is active and not stopping, validates node linkage, and derives task and child identities from the command identifier. Receipt replay and parent-keyed locking surround dispatch, and creation events and effects enter one existing commit operation. The snapshot adds no separate write step; the underlying database transaction guarantee was not directly verified.

Recommended: avoid duplicate trait resolution in three atom selectors.
modelTraits runs resolveSubagentModelTraits twice, once for effortLabel and once for speed. Each selector re-runs on every provider update. The cost is small, but one selector that returns a stable derived value would cut the work. The value could be a string key such as effort|speed, which keeps equality stable for the atom.
This is optional. The current code is correct.

Preserve persisted model data when no live agent exists.
When a projected subagent has no matching live agent, the spread preserves item.modelSelection, but model: live?.model ?? null replaces item.model with null. SubagentRow then renders "Not reported" for the model, and resolveSubagentModelTraits returns no effort or speed because modelSlug is undefined.
The model loss predates this PR, but the new trait display exposes the producer gap.

@coderabbitai Re the outside-diff note on apps/mobile/src/features/threads/thread-subagent-group.tsx:92 (preserve item.model): not applying. The projected subagent turn item (packages/contracts/src/orchestrationV2.ts) has no model or modelSelection field, so item.model doesn't exist and the suggested change wouldn't typecheck. The live thread projection is the only place the model is recorded, so null is the correct fallback when no live agent matches. The spread doesn't carry over a persisted model or selection either.
@RakshithBhat03 You're right. The projected subagent item has no model or modelSelection field, so the spread cannot preserve either field. My suggested item.model fallback would not typecheck.
The current live?.model ?? null fallback is correct for this mapping. I withdraw the outside-diff note. Thanks for the clarification.

Learning: In packages/contracts/src/orchestrationV2.ts, the subagent variant of OrchestrationV2TurnItem has neither model nor modelSelection. In apps/mobile/src/features/threads/thread-subagent-group.tsx, ThreadSubagentGroup obtains these fields from the matching thread.projection.subagents record. Spreading the projected turn item does not preserve model metadata. When no live record matches, model: live?.model ?? null is the correct fallback; do not suggest item.model.
Note: Learnings are effective only in the context of similar code segments. To apply general coding guidelines, please configure review instructions. You can manage existing learnings in the app.
Claude-native records can already contain parent-derived effort: updateClaudeSubagentNode falls back through input.effort ?? input.owner?.effort ?? compileClaudeModelSelection(parentSelection).effort, then stores that value in the record's own modelSelection. The new shared resolver accepts this own selection for provider-native rows. Preventing child-thread fallback therefore does not prevent displaying a parent's effort as the child's. [Bug]: Claude subagents show the thread's effort instead of the one their agent definition sets #24143 supplies a live contributor reproduction of the underlying mismatch; [Bug]: Orchestrator V2 shows no reasoning effort for subagents #15214 also records Julius's warning about copying parent effort. Please preserve effective-value provenance at the adapter boundary or omit effort when it is unknown, and cover an agent definition overriding parent effort.
The new duplicate-tier test gives both Standard and Fast the ID default and expects Fast for that ID. The resolver's .some(...) cannot distinguish those choices. For an ambiguous catalog, omit speed unless another effective setting disambiguates it. I have not established that a production catalog currently contains this duplicate.
For contribution scope, the current prior-approval policy directs feature proposals to Ideas before implementation. Existing #15214 and Ideas #6938 already cover the underlying effort/details request; there is no need for a duplicate report. #6938 was closed as delivered with focused follow-ups invited. I could not find explicit maintainer approval for this head's broader default model/effort/speed presentation in those records or related Ideas #11778 and #22224. Please link approval covering this scope, or obtain maintainer direction on the existing discussion and narrow the patch accordingly. Missing required feature approval can lead to closure under the guide; this comment does not close the PR.
This is a source assessment, not a reproduced pass/fail. I have not executed the base or proposed head, run the tests, or verified a real client: the validation resource gate is currently denied. The supplied web screenshots demonstrate presentation, but do not establish effective Claude effort or mobile behavior. Exact-base reproduction followed by the same exact-head check and affected-client evidence remains outstanding.
Title: Claude workflow rows say "Claude · Not reported" for the model
What happens
When a Claude thread runs Claude Code's Workflow tool, its row in the Agents list (mobile) and the subagent tooltip (web) shows Claude · Not reported. Its member agents show their models correctly, e.g. Claude · Claude Haiku 5.5.
Repro
In a Claude thread, run any Workflow script, even one with a single agent.
Open the Agents list. The workflow row reads Claude · Not reported.
Cause
apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/ClaudeAdapterV2.ts:8778 and :9350 (upstream 0c80751701): rememberClaudeSubagentLaunch records a launch model only when the tool is "Agent". A Workflow tool use records none.
ClaudeAdapterV2.ts (task_started handler): on task_started, model = launch?.model ?? owner?.task.model ?? undefined resolves to undefined for the local_workflow task.
ClaudeAdapterV2.ts (subagent persist): the subagent is persisted with model: null.
packages/client-runtime/src/state/subagentDisplay.ts:77: model === null falls through to "Not reported". It is used by apps/mobile/src/features/threads/SubagentRow.tsx:107 and apps/web/src/components/chat/SubagentTooltipContent.tsx:53.
Evidence: a plain Claude thread (Haiku 5.5) running a one-file Workflow script with only Claude agents, on upstream main 68495b641b. Its provider_native row (workflow.name = "inner-loop-haiku") has $.model = null while $.modelSelection.model = "claude-haiku-5-5"; every member agent row has its model. Same result on a real nightly install.
Suggested fix (smallest)
A workflow coordinator is a script, not a model, so nothing is missing. In resolveSubagentMetadata, label a subagent that has workflow and no model as Workflow, not Not reported. Alternatively, have the server record the parent run's model for local_workflow tasks. That is less honest, because the coordinator does not run on that model.
The body proposes adding model, effort and speed to subagent rows and persisting launch selections, while neither the description nor the PR discussion links explicit maintainer approval for this intentional product change.
Link a prior maintainer discussion approving this display and snapshot scope, or obtain that approval in an Ideas discussion before requesting reconsideration; the reported difficulty finding model details remains useful feedback.
merged current main without rebasing and preserved the status label. addressed the remote provider catalog finding in both row and tooltip, persisted remote launch selections, restored the shared antigravity effort key, and omitted uncertain inherited claude effort and ambiguous speed tiers.
blacksmith check:changed passed, including nine-package typecheck, lint, 32 focused tests and compiler checks. two independent reviews approved 273261e. real codex luna delegation, inline details, hover details and child navigation passed in chrome; before/after evidence is in the body. native mobile and linked-environment browser behavior remain unverified.
the earlier persisted-model fallback suggestion was withdrawn by its reviewer because projected turn items carry neither model nor modelSelection. the workflow label report reproduces on main and is outside this change.

Look up the remote child when the local child thread ID is null, and pass that selection to the tooltip.
For an older app-owned linked-task record without agent.modelSelection, the row's fallback lookup runs only when threadId !== null. A linked task has a null childThreadId and keeps its child in remoteChild, so the lookup never runs. The tooltip receives only agent?.modelSelection, so it has no fallback either. Effort and fast/ultrafast traits can therefore be missing in both places. The model label is still shown.
Use remote when the local thread ID is null, and pass the resolved selection to the tooltip.

When subagent.childThreadId is set, keep using the local environmentId and childThreadId. When it is null and remoteChild exists, use remoteChild.environmentId and remoteChild.threadId. A remote-only lookup would break local app-owned child fallback. The resolver needs the selected child thread to recover modelSelection for older app_owned records.

The details come only from where they're reliable:
delegate_task) subagents now record a snapshot of the selection they were launched with. Their child thread's selection can change on later turns, so it's no longer the source of truth. Subagent records created before this change still fall back to the child thread.ThreadRelationshipsControl.agents.test.tsxalready guards against inferring from it.Speed is only shown when the model's catalog actually offers that option. Service tiers only count for Codex and match by option id. Ambiguous duplicate tier ids show no speed. The row and the hover card now share one resolver in
client-runtime.Before and after use the same real Codex Luna delegated task in an isolated dev server.
Original implementation by Claude Opus 5.5 in T3 Code through the Claude Code harness. Takeover by gpt-6.1-sol through the Codex harness.
