Nothing blocking. The comments below are optional suggestions. There is no need to push a fix for them before merging.
Beyond the inline findings, I also checked two things in the refactor and ruled them out: entries.dir is a &'static slice interned in DirnameStore (src/resolver/fs.rs:390), so reading it under entries_mutex and using it after the guard drops is sound; and add_entry_with_store writes entry.dir = self.dir for every entry (src/resolver/fs.rs:482), so hoisting the check from per-file entry.dir() to the per-listing entries.dir is behavior-preserving. The recursion at src/router/lib.rs:607 still passes the router's root base_dir, so nested listings are checked against the root rather than their parent.
Extended reasoning...
The change replaces a debug-only slice guard in the Rust FileSystemRouter loader with a release-build prefix check on the directory listing, plus a POSIX-only regression test spawning bun -e on a hash-colliding path. It touches no auth, crypto, or injection surface, but it is a user-reachable crash fix in a path shared with the resolver's hash-keyed directory cache, and the inline findings show the guard still misses a subdirectory collision and regresses symlinked dirs on reload(), so a human should weigh the fix against addressing the cache key itself.

🟡 (optional) When the colliding listing lives only in the resolver's entries cache, users get a router with zero routes and no error instead of the "Unable to find directory" error the PR promises for dir itself. The guard at src/runtime/api/filesystem_router.rs:129-134 checks info.abs_path, which is the requested path even when the DirInfo was filled from another directory's DirEntry; the only check of entries.dir is the silent return at src/router/lib.rs:560-562, which also serves the top-level call. Fix: a mismatch of the top-level listing must surface the same way as a dir_cache mismatch, e.g. have load_all/load report it (or compare entries.dir in load_router too) so the constructor throws rather than returning an empty router, while a mismatched subdirectory stays skipped.
Why this was flagged
read_directory (called from load_as_file at src/resolver/resolver.rs:5890) populates only rfs.entries, so a directory X can sit in rfs.entries without a dir_cache slot. If a FileSystemRouter dir hashes like X, read_dir_info(&config.dir) misses dir_cache, opens dir successfully, then at src/resolver/resolver.rs:4654-4671 rfs!().entries.get_or_put(dir_path) hits X's DirEntry and reuses it (needs_iter = false). dir_info_uncached at src/resolver/resolver.rs:6192-6198 stores abs_path: path (the requested dir) with entries pointing at X's listing. The new guard at src/runtime/api/filesystem_router.rs:129-134 compares info.abs_path to config.dir, which match, so it accepts the DirInfo. RouteLoader::load then finds entries.dir = X unequal to dir at src/router/lib.rs:560, and returns with no routes and no log entry; load_router at src/runtime/api/filesystem_router.rs:150-154 sees no errors or warnings and returns Some. On the base branch the loader walked X's listing (panic or wrong routes); the PR description says a mismatch for dir itself yields Unable to find directory, but this sibling path yields a silently empty router.
Verification: Trigger: a FileSystemRouter dir that exists on disk and whose cache key collides with a listing that sits only in rfs.entries. At resolver.rs:4654-4666 the colliding DirEntry is reused, so the guard at src/runtime/api/filesystem_router.rs:129-131 passes and the only mismatch check is the bare return at src/router/lib.rs:560-562. The user gets a router that matches nothing, silently, rather than the promised error.
`new Bun.FileSystemRouter()` listed what the resolver had cached for `dir`. `Routes::scan` now reads each directory itself, for the constructor and for `reload()`, and a route table owns its strings. `reload()` drops the resolver's record of each directory that the last scan or this scan read. Under a watcher it resolves each route file again, so that the hot reloader still finds the module of a saved file. The constructor joins every `dir`, as #46286 does. What does this PR do?
Fixes two crashes and a hang in
Bun.FileSystemRouter.A listing of the wrong directory
The resolver's directory caches are keyed by a 64-bit hash of the path and don't compare the path on a hit, so two paths with the same hash share an entry. Such a pair won't come up by chance, but one can be computed. The route loader used whatever listing it got:
dirand a shorter directory that holds a route filepanic: range start index 48 out of range for slice of length 8dirand any other directorydiranddiritselfThe loader now uses a listing only if its directory is the one it asked for. When the cached directory for
diritself is another one, that is the usualUnable to find directoryerror. A subdirectory whose listing is another directory's is skipped, so its routes are missing. The comparison needs
dirin the resolver's spelling, which on Windows has an uppercase drive letter. Everydirwas already joined and normalized that way except"."and"", which took the current directory as it was. They are now joined too.The caches themselves are not changed, so this covers the route loader only. Their other users are not covered, including the cache invalidation that
reload()does before it loads.reload()whendiris reached through a symlinkThe constructor replaced the router's stored
dirwith its real path, which has no trailing separator when a symlink is involved.reload()loads from the storeddir, and the loader cuts route names assuming the separator is there. On 1.4.3reload()hangs.The stored
diris no longer replaced, soreload()loads the same path as the constructor. How did you verify your code works?
Tests added to
test/js/bun/util/filesystem_router.test.ts:/. It creates nothing on disk.reload()on adirunder a symlink returns the same routes and still matches.dir: "."anddir: ""find the routes of the current directory, from a child process whose cwd has its first character lowercased. These pass on 1.4.3 too; neither value had a test. The whole file passes on a debug build of this branch. On 1.4.3 the first test times out and the second hangs. I have not run the Windows case locally.
The other two rows of the table have no test, because a colliding path has to be computed for a known absolute path. I ran both by hand with computed pairs: 1.4.3 panics and segfaults as in the table; this branch throws
Unable to find directoryfor the first, and for the second returns the routes outside the colliding subdirectory.
