Assert the exit code and stderr before reading the LCOV file.
If the subprocess fails, lcov.info may not exist. readFileSync then throws an ENOENT error. That error hides the real cause, which is in stderr and exitCode.
Move the stderr and exitCode assertions before the readFileSync call. A failure then shows the subprocess output.
Proposed fix
const [stderr, exitCode] = await Promise.all([proc.stderr.text(), proc.exited]);
+ expect(stderr).toContain(" 1 pass");
+ expect(exitCode).toBe(0);
const lcov = readFileSync(path.join(String(dir), "coverage", "lcov.info"), "utf-8");Then remove the two assertions at Lines 803-804.

Beyond the inline findings, two things were checked and ruled out: the new coverage test pipes only stderr (stdout left at Bun.spawn's default) — the child's stdout output is just the runner summary and the existing test at test/cli/test/coverage.test.ts:679 uses the same shape, so no pipe-fill risk; and the rewrite of the generators.ts corpus case drops once() but its resumed-yield expectation (line hit 1 after a yield that is resumed) is carried by the new generator() entry, so no prior coverage was lost.
Extended reasoning...
The change bumps WEBKIT_VERSION in scripts/build/deps/webkit.ts to an unmerged-PR preview tag and adds coverage tests (one new test in test/cli/test/coverage.test.ts and two corpus cases in test/js/bun/sourcemap/source-positions-corpus.ts) that encode the new JSC basic-block coverage behavior; no runtime source is touched and no security-sensitive surface is involved. The inline finding on the ephemeral preview pin is what keeps this from being approvable as-is, since the repo's own guidance forbids merging such pins.
Findings marked 🟡 are optional suggestions and need no follow-up push.
Additional findings (outside the current diff — GitHub can't attach inline comments there):
-
🟡
test/cli/test/coverage.test.ts— nit: Users ofnode:inspectorprecise coverage (vitest's coverage-v8 provider) get the new JSC block shapes with nothing in this PR asserting what they now receive. The engine change feeds two consumers, but tests were added only forbun test --coverage(this test and the corpus). The sibling reader is buildScriptCoverageList in src/js/node/inspector.ts:285, which derives a function's call count from its lowest-offset block at :396-403 and assumes nesting in toRanges at :359-371. Fix: add a fixture in test/js/node/inspector/inspector-profiler.test.ts running the suspended and skipped programs through Profiler.takePreciseCoverage and asserting the count-0 ranges and the call counts, so both entry points to the same fix are pinned.Why this was flagged
The trigger is any program with a default parameter initializer, a
?.on a nullish base, or code after an unresumedawait/yield, collected through Profiler.takePreciseCoverage in src/js/node/inspector.ts:418 after this WebKit bump at scripts/build/deps/webkit.ts:6.…Verification: nit. Any caller of
node:inspectorProfiler.takePreciseCoverage running a program with a?.on a nullish base, a logical assignment, a default initializer, or code after an unresumedawait/yield.src/js/node/inspector.ts:285-409reshapes the same ControlFlowProfiler blocks into V8 ranges.test/js/node/inspector/inspector-profiler.test.tshas no fixture for these constructs. -
🟡
test/cli/test/coverage.test.ts— nit: the pass check at test/cli/test/coverage.test.ts:803 isexpect(stderr).toContain(" 1 pass"), which also matches " 11 pass", " 1 pass, 1 fail" or a line in an unrelated error message. REVIEW.md asks fortoBeovertoContainon normalized output, and this file's own earlier tests usenormalizeBunSnapshotwithtoMatchInlineSnapshot(for example around test/cli/test/coverage.test.ts:640-643). Fix: assert the normalized stderr with an inline snapshot, or at least match the exact summary lines1 passand0 failso a partially failing inner test cannot satisfy the check.Why this was flagged
test/cli/test/coverage.test.ts:803 asserts
expect(stderr).toContain(" 1 pass"). The inner fixture has one test; if a second test were ever added, or if the runner printed ' 1 pass' followed by ' 1 fail', the substring still matches. The exit-code assertion at line 744 catches an inner failure,…Verification: The new test's pass check is at test/cli/test/coverage.test.ts:803 (
expect(stderr).toContain(" 1 pass");), with the exit-code check at line 804. The assertion is a substring match, so it would also be satisfied by " 11 pass" or by a " 1 pass" line sitting next to a " 1 fail" line; the only thing that stops the latter from passing isexpect(exitCode).toBe(0)at line 804. So nothing breaks today.

Order the assertions without hiding process diagnostics.
The test guidance requires stdout before exitCode, but moving the current assertion below JSON.parse(stdout) is insufficient. If the child exits nonzero with empty or invalid stdout, parsing throws first and hides stderr and exitCode. Guard the parse with diagnostics, then keep the process-status assertion last.
