WalkthroughChangesThe glob matcher and walker now support brace and extglob alternatives that cross path separators. Tests cover scan behavior and command-line consumers, including workspace filtering and installation. Documentation and benchmarks cover the new grouped patterns. Separator-crossing glob patterns

I re-reviewed the new push and found no bugs; the four points from the earlier pass (a link named after the group, ./.. after the group, a bare (name) inside the group, the class check) are now covered by code and rows in scan.test.ts. Because this rewires the walker that bun install, --filter, the shell and bun lint all share, a human look at the Crossing design is still worthwhile.
What was reviewed:
token_at'sno_class_fromshortcut: underclass_end's rules an unclosed[implies every later[is unclosed too, so returning Literal past that index cannot hide a real class.Crossing::enter/path_lenlength bookkeeping across Directory pops, theenter_crossingsplit, and the Symlink pop: the suffix taken fromdir_pathalways stays within it, and theRefCell<Entered>borrows never nest.- Untrusted-pattern paths in
crossing_groups/has_separator/is_unbounded: every index comes from the matcher's tokens, no byte-level counters; the non-UTF-8 workspace pattern and the long-pattern rows exercise them. - Shell interpolation of
,,[..]and!into a group with a separator stays literal (bunshell.test.ts), and the twotest.failingworkspace rows document the npm-reading gap rather than hide it.
Extended reasoning...
The change adds a SyntaxHint::Crossing component to src/glob/GlobWalker.rs (about 460 lines) so a brace or extglob group containing a path separator is matched by the matcher against paths relative to the directory the group starts in, plus a Below pruning oracle and a no_class_from cache in src/glob/matcher.rs. The walker is shared by Bun.Glob, the shell, workspaces, --filter, --check and bun lint, so the security-relevant surface is shell interpolation into glob words and workspace member discovery; both have new tests and no issue was found. The bug hunt ended with a dry streak and the earlier inline findings were addressed by commit f094c9c, but the size and the new cross-component state (Entered, crossing_path_len) make this too large and design-heavy to approve without a human reading it.
`new Bun.Glob("src/{a,b/c}/index.ts").scan()` lists nothing, and
`match()` accepts `src/a/index.ts` and `src/b/c/index.ts`. The walker
cuts a pattern at each separator, also inside a group.
The path segments from the first group with a separator inside to the
last such group are now one component, `SyntaxHint::Crossing`. The
matcher reads it against the path of each entry below the directory that
it starts in, and `matcher::Below` says which directories can have a
match below them. Before the crossing and after it, the pattern is cut
at each separator as before. A crossing that can match any number of
directories (`**`, `+(a/)`) keeps the rest of the pattern.
The splitter asks the tokens of the matcher once, at the first separator
after a `{` or an extglob `(`. A pattern with no separator inside a
group is read as before.
`token_at` takes the first `[` that is not closed from `Parsed`, so a
pattern with many of them is read once.

Problem
new Bun.Glob("src/{a,b/c}/index.ts").scan()lists nothing, andmatch()accepts both files. In 1.4.4 too.build_pattern_components(src/glob/GlobWalker.rs:2184) cuts the pattern at each separator, also inside a group. The shell,workspaces,--filterandbun lintuse this walker.Fix
Crossingcomponent. The walker lists whatmatch_preparedaccepts below it, andBelow::may_matchrules directories out. After it, the cut is as before.test/js/bun/glob/scan.test.ts, and the shell, workspace and lint tests.Background
match_preparedmatches a whole path.Belowsays if a path below a directory can match.+(a/). Considered: the matcher also reads the rest of the pattern, which finds no link or..there.Downsides
workspaces: ["{apps/web,packages/*}"]now has members, so an older lockfile fails--frozen-lockfileuntil the nextbun install.{before a separator ({src,test}/**/*.ts) costs about 2,000 instructions and 1 allocation per scan.*.ts: 5,106 glob instructions (main 5,125).**in the group's segments, the matcher reads the rest too and follows no link named there.Notes
Order. #45885 (matcher: the dot rules for a class that starts with
() is best first. Until it lands,{flat/[(.]a,zz/y}lists the hiddenflat/.awithoutdot: this walker asksmatch_preparedwithDots::Hide. #41558 changes two rules of the same walker: the dot rule for each alternative, and the rule for a link that a segment without a wildcard names. The link rule was #45889. That PR is closed, and its commite879a0d376is part of #41558 now. The link rows ofscan.test.tssay what this walker does now. Their comment still names #45889.Self-review. The diff was reviewed two times before this push. The first review took out absolute alternatives, a rule that listed a directory for an alternative that ends with
/, and every change to a pattern with no such group. The second review found that the cut after the group was a list of rules with counterexamples. This cut has fewer: no byte-level bracket counter (the matcher's tokens decide, which also removed a panic for a pattern with a byte that is not UTF-8), no whole-pattern negation, no special case for.and.., and a group with only a**in it is not a trigger. Five points are not done:docs/guides/ecosystem/tanstack-start.mdx:413and a line for the workaround inglob.mdx(fs.globSync(pattern, { cwd }), or$.braces(pattern).flatMap(p => [...new Glob(p).scanSync(opts)])). The workaround is for a release that does not have this change..that is named there is for the matcher.**that is glued into a name ({a**/c,b}) counts as one that matches any number of directories.**right after a group as a*. Thetest.failingrows are for this. It has no tracker from this PR.workspacesreads{a,b/c}as one pattern. npm reads it as the entriesaandb/c. Twotest.failingtests inbun-workspaces.test.tshave the two cases where that matters (a link with a**in the group, and../sharedas an alternative). If npm's reading is wanted,process_names_array(src/install/lockfile/Package/WorkspaceMap.rs:381) is the place, for a maintainer to decide.Who has such a pattern. #32596 and #24000 are the reports for braces, and #25789 was a fix from the community: three reporters since
Bun.Globshipped, all with a comma brace. A list of patterns joined into one group is the common source: the guidedocs/guides/ecosystem/tanstack-start.mdx:413joins its patterns with,and puts{and}around them forBun.Glob. A comma brace has the fault in 1.4.3 too. A separator in@(..),+(..)or!(..)is new with #45043, which is in 1.4.4. Nobody asked for those: the reason to do them here is thatmatch()andscan()have two answers for them in 1.4.4. Node 26fs.globSync, fast-glob, npm 11 and bash list the matches of a comma brace with a separator.The rule. The crossing is the path segments from the first group with a separator inside (or from the first
**before it) to the last such group. Before the crossing and after it, the walker reads the pattern as it did. In the crossing, the scan lists the entries whose pathmatch()accepts, for the pattern with its empty path segments dropped. The crossing keeps the rest of the pattern in three cases: it can match any number of directories (a**, or a group that repeats with a separator inside), a!(is in it or after it, or only separators follow. A pattern that ends with a separator lists only directories, as before.What changes for a user.
