invalid-argument error. Update the validation near $ERR_INVALID_ARG_TYPE so the

temporary directory, using the existing tempDir pattern from the other tests in
this file. Set the spawned process’s cwd to that directory so the test reliably
exercises the built-in bake help output.

Beyond the inline findings, I also diffed the html.ts -> serve_cli.ts extraction against the old code: the NODE_ENV=production ternary, unknown-argument tolerance, --help handling and the EADDRINUSE retry loop are preserved for bun ./index.html. The two BUN_PANIC sites in BuiltinEntryPoint.cpp are only reachable if the built-in module itself has the wrong shape, not from user input, and the bake.ts/bake script shadowing matches the existing script-lookup precedence the description states.
Extended reasoning...
The hunt was cut off at max_bugs and ten inline findings are posted, so this is a brief ruled-out note only: the html.ts refactor was checked for behavior preservation, the C++ panics are on an internal invariant, and the shadowing of bun bake by a project's own bake file or script is the existing lookup order.
Findings marked 🟡 are optional suggestions and need no follow-up push.

The items from my earlier review (duplicate page URLs, :/* in page names, --port 3000, IPv6 --host, the narrowed resolve catch, the opener spawn) are handled in this push; the remaining points are in the new inline comments. Beyond those, I also checked the refactored flag loop in src/js/internal/html.ts (i += used - 1 with the loop's own i++) for the two-argument --port 3000 form — it advances past the value correctly and --flag=value still consumes one argument, so bun ./index.html parsing is preserved.
Extended reasoning...
Second review of the same PR after a push that addressed the earlier inline findings; the diff still adds a new CLI command across Rust CLI dispatch, the VM entry-point FFI enum, and two builtin JS modules, with no auth or crypto surface. The bug hunt stopped at its finding cap rather than running dry and new inline findings are being posted, so this run only records progress and the one shared-path concern it ruled out.

src/jsc/VirtualMachine.rs:3598—Users whose app/server.ts imports a file with an unknown extension, like ./icon.png, get a parse error from bun bake in…

Nothing blocking. The comments below are optional suggestions. There is no need to push a fix for them before merging.
Beyond the inline finding, I also walked every consumer of the new Option vm.main() in the latest push (bundler is_main, RuntimeTranspilerStore, jsc_hooks including the WASM path, Bun.main, process.argv, $0 in the shell, fetch() relative paths, the dev-server hash key, note_commonjs_evaluation): each old is_empty()/equality check maps to is_none()/is_some_and, and [eval]/[stdin] keep a Some main, so those paths are unchanged. The once-only shortcut listener guard in serve_cli.ts also covers both callers now.
Extended reasoning...
The latest commits make VirtualMachine.main an Option<RawSlice<u8>> and touch about a dozen readers across the bundler, transpiler store, module loader hooks, Bun object, process, shell and fetch; I checked each site against the pre-change semantics and found them behavior-preserving for every existing entry mode. The one outstanding item is the bun --check bake --hot Hot-to-Watch gap posted inline.

src/runtime/jsc_hooks.rs— nit: a developer who runsbun --inspect-brk bakenever gets the first-line pause; after the debugger connects, app/server.ts runs straight through, unlikebun --inspect-brk app.ts. The breakpoint is only armed whenis_mainis true at src/runtime/jsc_hooks.rs:2521, and under bakevm.main()isNone, so jsc_hooks.rs:2236 makesis_mainfalse for every module. Fix: underMainEntryPoint::Bake, arm the first-line breakpoint on the first user module the built-in entry imports (app/server.ts), or report that--inspect-brkis not supported withbun bakeinstead of silently acting as--inspect-wait.Why this was flagged
The user runs
bun --inspect-brk bake(bake feature flag on) with an app/server.ts. Arguments.rs:1347-1361 setsset_breakpoint_on_first_line: trueandwait_for_connection: true, and jsc_hooks.rs:575-591 stores both onvm.debugger. run_command.rs:2829 boots withBootMain::Bake, sovm.set_main(None)at run_command.rs:1066 andvm.main()staysNonefor the whole run. When app/server.ts (or any import) is transpiled, jsc_hooks.rs:2236 computesis_main = main.is_some_and(...), which is false, so theset_breakpoint_on_first_line = is_main && ...expression at jsc_hooks.rs:2521-2526 never consumes the one-shot flag and the parser never emits the debugger statement. The process waits for the inspector to connect and then evaluates app/server.ts without pausing, so the developer cannot stop before the server code runs. With a file entry (bun --inspect-brk app.ts) the main module matches and the break happens. The base branch has nobun bake;bun --inspect-brk ./index.htmlimports no user JS, so this is the first built-in entry where the flag is silently lost.Verification: nit. A developer runs
bun --inspect-brk bakewith an app/server.ts. src/runtime/jsc_hooks.rs:2521 arms the first-line breakpoint only asis_main && .... Under bake, run_command.rs:1060 maps to(None, None), sovm.main()isNoneandis_mainis false for every module, and the process waits for an inspector then runs app/server.ts straight through. Not a regression on the base (bake is new).
… flags after the mode is final
…ent.cpp (#45764) ### Problem - 29 lines in 6 files have no user. - `source_file`, `compare_types` and `symbol_to_string` in the `queries!` list of `src/lint/types/mod.rs` have no caller. The list generates the only call of the `Services` functions of the same names in `bun_sema`. The trait is `pub`, so rustc does not check it. - `BunProcess.cpp` declares five `using X = JSC::X;` aliases that it never names. `DirEntType` in `NodeDirent.cpp` has three enumerators that nothing names. ### Fix - Delete the three list lines with their `Services` functions (21 lines), the five aliases and the three enumerators. - Correct because a word search over the sources, the tests and the generated code finds no user, and the workspace compiles for 12 targets. - Verified: `bun bd`, `bun run rust:check-all`, `cargo check --workspace --all-targets`, 8 test files (Notes). - Self-reviewed: 41 concerns raised, 33 addressed. Rejected: a `pub(crate)` narrowing of `Queries` (`resolve_name` needs a caller first), and a hold until earlier sweeps merge. ### Background - `queries!` lists each question that a lint handle (`Type`, `TsSymbol`) can ask the type checker. One line generates a `Queries` method and a forwarding call to `Services` in `bun_sema`. - `BunProcess.cpp` compiles as its own unit with `using namespace JSC;`, so the aliases change no name lookup. - A deletion of unreferenced code has one possible place, so no other design was weighed. ### Downsides - A later lint handle that needs one of the three queries must restore it. - None found for users. Checked: the heads of all 5,559 open pull requests, 12 targets, the tests in Notes. Behaviour change: none <details><summary>Notes</summary> **Removed** - `src/lint/types/mod.rs`: the `queries!` lines `source_file`, `compare_types` and `symbol_to_string`. No call of these names has a `Queries` receiver. The calls that exist go to other functions: `Checker::compare_types` and `Checker::symbol_to_string` in `bun_sema`, a private `compare_types` in `prefer_optional_chain.rs`, and the parser's `source_file`. With `Queries` made crate-private in a scratch edit, rustc reports `resolve_name` as the only query left that is never used. - `src/sema/check/services.rs`, `services/types.rs`, `services/symbols.rs`: `Services::source_file`, `Services::compare_types`, `Services::symbol_to_string`. The generated forwarding call was the only user. What they call (`Files::by_path`, `Checker::compare_types`, `Checker::symbol_to_string`, `Checker::prop_to_string`) keeps other callers. - `src/jsc/bindings/BunProcess.cpp`: the aliases `Exception`, `JSModuleLoader`, `JSModuleRecord`, `SourceOrigin`, `JSNonFinalObject`. None of the names appears in the rest of the file. The same block in `Path.cpp` and `ZigGlobalObject.cpp` is left to #43378 and #42431. - `src/jsc/bindings/NodeDirent.cpp`: the enumerators `Whiteout`, `Door` and `EventPort` of `DirEntType`, all equal to `Unknown`. No C or C++ file names them. **Open pull requests** - Compared at 2026-10-17 16:40 UTC on main 017b243 with the heads of all 5,559 open pull requests, drafts and every author included. - 156 of them touch a file of this diff (151 touch `BunProcess.cpp`). A trial merge of each with main and with this branch (`git merge-tree`) shows that the branch adds a conflict to none. - None deletes one of these lines. None adds a use of a removed name: the added lines were searched for the three query names, the five alias names in `BunProcess.cpp`, and the three enumerators. **Found dead in this run, and left alone** - Already gone on main: three lines in `JSSQLStatement.cpp` and `NodeSqlite.cpp` (#45304). - Another open pull request deletes or rewrites them: 13 commented-out lines in uSockets, uWS, `JSEventTargetCustom.cpp` and `src/node-fallbacks/url.js` (#45709, and #43730 for `url.js`), two typedefs in `InspectorHTTPServerAgent.cpp` (#45725), the `BUN_WEBKIT_VERSION` fallback in `BunProcess.cpp` (#41729), a commented-out line in `src/js/internal/html.ts` (#45682). - An open pull request uses them: `Event::currentTargetIsInShadowTree()` and the `MediaTime` overload of `JSConverter<IDLUnrestrictedDouble>` (#45415). - Held by an earlier sweep for a reason that still holds: the QUIC setters `scid_len` and `delay_onclose` (#43976, and #40220 changes the line above them). - `resolve_name`, the fourth query with no caller. tsgolint's `prefer-readonly` calls `ResolveName` and Bun's port does not, which gives a wrong autofix for a global enum. The fix is handed off and needs the query. After it, `Queries` can become `pub(crate)`, and rustc then guards the list. - Mirrors of typescript-eslint and tsgolint: the write-only fields `ThenCall::on_fulfilled`, `FinallyCall::on_finally`, `BaseTypeOfClassMember::base_type` and `heritage_token`, `TargetElement::is_shorthand`, with `TsNode::token` (as #45402 held them). Also 33 functions from macro lists in `src/lint/types/` that nothing calls, and `File::expr_tags_in_tree`. - Debugging aids: 25 hand-written `Debug` impls in `bun_lint`, 5 in `bun_format`, and `Display` for `Difference`, `FilePoll` and `Part`. - Handed off: the plugin `target` value that nothing reads (`BundlerPlugin::target`, three more members, a parameter of `JSBundlerPlugin__create`, and the Rust enum). Its removal changes an FFI signature. - Needs a decision: `PerformanceResourceTiming` cannot be constructed, so `ResourceTiming.cpp`, `NetworkLoadMetrics.cpp` and `ServerTiming.h` are reachable only from its getters. **How the candidates were found** - Ten text searches, one for each area: `src/js`, the C++ bindings (three parts), uSockets and uWS, the build scripts, the side packages, the three new crates, and commented-out code. - A relink of the debug build with `-Wl,--gc-sections`, with each dropped function mapped to its source line by `llvm-nm -l`: 517 C++ functions and 607 Rust function lines. Almost all are Windows or macOS code, release-only code, or are deleted by an open pull request. - For `bun_sema`: `pub` narrowed to `pub(crate)` on each item that no other crate names, in a scratch tree. rustc reported nothing new. - For 39 trait impls that the linker drops: delete all, compile for linux, windows and darwin and with `--all-targets`, put back each impl that an error names. What stayed deleted is a debugging aid. **Tests, debug build of this branch** (with `--timeout 600000`, because the lint and check tests need more than the default with a debug build) - `test/cli/lint/conformance.test.ts`: 3 pass. - `test/cli/lint/rules.test.ts`: 16 pass. - `test/cli/lint/native-rules.test.ts`: 166 pass. - `test/cli/lint/bun-rules.test.ts`: 100 pass. - `test/cli/check/check.test.ts`: 599 pass, 42 skip. - `test/js/node/process/process.test.js`: 188 pass, 5 skip. - `test/js/node/fs/dir.test.ts`: 23 pass. - `test/regression/issue/24129.test.ts`: 2 pass. </details> <!-- robobun:evidence:begin --> --- **no test proof** · iteration 0 · the description declares no behaviour change, so there is no failing test to prove; the existing suite in CI is the check <!-- robobun:evidence:end -->

This PR adds
bun bake. It is the first step of the new Bake design (https://github.com/alii/bake-rfc).bun bakeserves the app in the working directory with Bun's dev server:.htmlfile inapp/pages/is a page. Its path is its URL:app/pages/docs/index.htmlis/docs, andapp/pages/docs/install.htmlis/docs/install. TheBun.serveroute is percent-encoded, soapp/pages/über.htmlis served at/%C3%BCber.app/server.tsis optional. Its default export can haveroutes, fetchandwebsocket, as inBun.serve(). Bake starts the server. The pages and the routes areBun.serve()routes.fetchgets each request that no page and no route matched.bun bake --check,--watch,--hotand--no-clear-screenmean the same as beforebake.bun bake --check(orbun --check bake) type checks the project first, asbun --checkdoes for a package.json script, and does not start the server when there are type errors. Withbun --check --watch bake, it type checks again after each change and starts the server when there are no errors. As forbun --check,--hotwith--checkruns as--watch, in both spellings.bun bakealways runs the dev server, also withNODE_ENV=production. The production build is a later PR (bun bake build).bun bakeis behind the Bake feature flag. It is on in canary and debug builds. In release builds, setBUN_FEATURE_FLAG_EXPERIMENTAL_BAKE=1.How it works
bun bakegoes through the normal script lookup. When the project has nobakescript, nobakefile and nobakebinary, the CLI starts the VM with the built-in modulesrc/js/internal/bake.tsas the program. Before this PR, that lookup printedScript not found "bake". So no project that runs today changes behavior.bun ./index.htmlalready starts the VM with a built-in module (internal/html.ts). The VM flagmain_is_html_entrypoint: boolbecomes the enumMainEntryPoint { File, Html, Bake }.Bun__loadHTMLEntryPointbecomesBun__loadBuiltinEntryPoint, with a named enum on both sides of the FFI. The C++ file is renamed toBuiltinEntryPoint.cpp.bun bakehas no entry module, sovm.mainbecomesOption<RawSlice<u8>>,Noneforbun bake.set_main,reload_entry_pointandload_entry_pointtakeOption<&[u8]>, andRunCommand::boot_maintakesBootMain::File { path, loader }orBootMain::Bake. Every reader ofvm.mainhandlesNone:process.argvis[bun, ...arguments], as forbun -e;Bun.mainis"";import.meta.mainisfalseinapp/server.ts; the checks that compare a module with the entry find no match. An earlier version used an empty path for this, and on Windows theBun.maingetter opened"", which is the working directory.reload_entry_point, a built-in entry point is chosen before the other ways to start: the patchedModule.runMainapplies only to a user file, and a built-in entry point also runs when transpiling is off. Before this PR, both of these ran the main path in place ofinternal/html.ts.has_loadedbefore it runs. That flag means "the main module has started"; it was only set when a loaded module's path equalsvm.main. Without it, a file of an unknown type thatapp/server.tsimports (./icon.png) was parsed as a script, and imports were never transpiled off-thread.internal/html.tsintointernal/serve_cli.tswith no change: the flags, the port retry, the startup message and the keyboard shortcuts.bun bakeuses the same code, so both commands behave the same.--checkin Bake mode type checks the project (check_project_before), because there is no entry module to start from.
