Beyond the inline findings, I also checked the removal of the #39930 executable_in_all intersection in MergedReport — executable lines are now derived from source-map mappings rather than from which functions ran, so the coarse-span problem the intersection guarded against no longer exists and a plain union is sound; and the CallSite.getColumnNumber() 0-to-1-based change against V8, where 1-based is the documented contract.
Extended reasoning...
Rewrites src/sourcemap_jsc/CodeCoverage.rs around a single walk over source-map mappings, shifts CallSite/stack-frame columns to 1-based, adjusts printer and parser source-map positions for export declarations and require/import calls, and adds a ~1000-line corpus-driven test; it touches no auth, crypto, or input-parsing security surface. The inline findings (a dangling SourceProvider buffer read in coverage generation, a preview WebKit tag pinned as WEBKIT_VERSION, and an export async function mapping regression) already mark this as needing a human look, so this note only records what else was examined and ruled out.
Findings marked 🟡 are optional suggestions and need no follow-up push.

src/js_parser/p.rs— Bundle users still get the string's column, notrequire's, for a stack frame atrequire("./x").foo()or anyrequire("./x")that is not immediately assigned to a declaration. src/js_parser/p.rs:1717 builds the replacement identifier witharg.locwhile the sibling branches at src/js_parser/p.rs:1731 and :1754 were switched tostate.locin this PR. The identifier is what the printer maps, so the mapping lands on the string literal. Fix: usestate.locat p.rs:1717 as well so every require-to-import conversion maps to the call. Why this was flagged
Trigger: a bundled or transpiled file where
require("x")is converted to a namespace import and is not immediately assigned to a declaration (p.rs:1711!state.is_require_immediately_assigned_to_decl), e.g.require("./x").foo()orconst a = require("./x").b. The expression is replaced by E::Identifier at src/js_parser/p.rs:1712-1718 witharg.loc, the string's position. Every other require branch now usesstate.loc(src/js_parser/p.rs:1731, :1754), which the PR sets to the call at src/js_parser/visit/visit_expr.rs:2173. The printer's identifier mapping therefore points at the string literal, so error.stack frames, coverage columns andnode:moduleSourceMap lookups for this call land on"./x"instead ofrequire, the exact defect this PR fixes for the other branches. The base branch had the same arg.loc here, but the PR claims to fix the class and its new word-equality test does not cover this shape. Remedy: pass state.loc at p.rs:1717.Verification: Pre-existing; the PR fixed its two siblings and missed this one. Trigger:
bun buildwith ESM output of arequire()that is unwrapped to a namespace import and is NOTconst x = require(...). p.rs:1711-1718 still usesarg.loc. The printer maps every EIdentifier at its loc (js_printer/lib.rs:4261-4262), so the identifier is mapped to the string literal's column rather thanrequire.

src/js_printer/lib.rs— nit, pre-existing:require.resolve("./x")is the one require/import form left without a source mapping, so a line that is only that statement is still missing frombun test --coverageand a position at that call still resolves to the previous mapped token. The ERequireResolveString arm at src/js_printer/lib.rs:3587 emits no add_source_mapping, while the sibling ERequireString and EImport arms now do. Fix: map every known-path require/import form at the call, i.e. add add_source_mapping(expr.loc) in that arm and give E::RequireResolveString the call's loc instead of the string's at src/js_parser/p.rs:1623, which also covers thecond ? "a" : "b"split at p.rs:1044.Why this was flagged
A transpiled file run under
bun test --coveragecontains a statement linerequire.resolve("./x");(or any line whose only token is a known-string require.resolve). visit_expr.rs:2236 turns it into E::RequireResolveString at the string's loc (p.rs:1618-1624). The printer's SExpr arm (lib.rs:6479-6486) emits no mapping and the ERequireResolveString arm (lib.rs:3587-3615) emits none either, so the generated line has no mapping except the printer's column-0 repeat of the previous mapping, which generate_report_from_blocks skips at CodeCoverage.rs:726. With the new model a line is executable only through a mapping (CodeCoverage.rs:720-736), so that source line is absent from lcov and the table, the same as on the base. The PR's fix for this class added add_source_mapping(expr.loc) to ERequireString (lib.rs:3577) and EImport (lib.rs:3646) and moved their loc to the call via TransposeState.loc, but not to this parallel arm; the corpus has no require.resolve case, so the new test does not cover it.Verification: Pre-existing: the base has the same gap by the same route. The
ExprData::ERequireResolveStringarm at src/js_printer/lib.rs:3587-3615 contains noadd_source_mapping. So therequire.resolve("./x");source line is absent from executable lines; a frame at that call resolves to the previous mapped token. The PR's corpus (test/js/bun/sourcemap/) has norequire.resolvecase.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winDo not identify synthetic ranges by their numeric extent.
JSC can report a real function as
[0, source_len). The current filter removes that function, so an uncalled sole function can leave an empty function list and report 100% function coverage. Removing the filter without another discriminator would retain the synthetic CommonJS wrapper as well, because ordinary wrapper functions are markedisFunctionInSource=true.Distinguish the synthetic program range explicitly at the C++/Rust boundary, then filter that marker instead of comparing offsets.

src/sourcemap/ParsedSourceMap.rs— nit: maintainers are left with a field this PR made dead:ParsedSourceMap.input_line_countis still written at ParsedSourceMap.rs:66, :230 and Mapping.rs:728 but nothing reads it any more. Its only reader was the old coverage line count (line_count = (parsed_mapping.input_line_count as u32) + 1) that this diff deletes from src/sourcemap_jsc/CodeCoverage.rs. Fix: delete the field together with what only feeds it: theinput_line_countparameter ofmapping::parse(Mapping.rs:442) and the arguments its five callers pass (sourcemap/lib.rs:949, JSSourceMap.rs:152, source_map_store.rs:678, pm_diff_normalize.rs:435),InternalSourceMap::input_line_count()(InternalSourceMap.rs:170), and the comment at StandaloneModuleGraph.rs:843.Why this was flagged
The base coverage code read
parsed_mapping.input_line_countto size its line bitsets (the removed line in the CodeCoverage.rs hunk,line_count = (parsed_mapping.input_line_count as u32) + 1). After this diff a repo-wide search forinput_line_countfinds only writes: the field declaration at src/sourcemap/ParsedSourceMap.rs:16,input_line_count: 0at :66,input_line_count: internal.input_line_count()at :230, andpsm.input_line_count = input_line_countat src/sourcemap/Mapping.rs:728, fed by theinput_line_count: usizeparameter at Mapping.rs:442 that five callers fill with constants or hints. No consumer reads the field, so the parameter, the accessor at InternalSourceMap.rs:170 and the five call-site arguments are dead, and the field escapes the dead-code lint because it ispub. Nothing fails at runtime; this is the repository's delete-dead-code-in-the-same-PR rule.Verification: nit. Triggering condition: none at runtime — this is dead state left behind by the diff. The base's only reader of
ParsedSourceMap.input_line_countwas the line this PR deletes from src/sourcemap_jsc/CodeCoverage.rs. Only writes remain: src/sourcemap/ParsedSourceMap.rs:66, :230 and src/sourcemap/Mapping.rs:728. This is a public field that escapes dead-code lints. Harm is cleanup.

I reviewed this update and didn't find any new bugs; the WEBKIT_VERSION pin is now a commit SHA rather than the preview tag, which closes the last item I had open. Because this is a wholesale rewrite of coverage computation plus a WebKit bump and a source-map header layout change, a human look is still worthwhile before merging.
What was reviewed:
MergedReportswitching from intersection to union: the #39930 regression test in coverage.test.ts still asserts blank line 5 is not reported, which now holds via the whitespace-excludingscan()rather than the merge.- InternalSourceMap header: bytes 16..24 are kept reserved (HEADER_SIZE stays 32), so
--compileblobs remain readable across versions. - scripts/build/deps/webkit.ts: pin is a 40-hex SHA; whether it is the merged oven-sh/WebKit commit with prebuilt artifacts for every platform/flavor could not be verified from this checkout.
Extended reasoning...
The diff (37 files, +2337/-645) rewrites src/sourcemap_jsc/CodeCoverage.rs, changes JSC C++ bindings for coverage/profiler/CallSite, removes input_line_count from the InternalSourceMap format and bumps the transpiler cache version, adjusts node:inspector precise-coverage output, and bumps the WebKit pin. It touches no auth, crypto, or injection surface. The bug hunt ran to a dry streak with no findings and the one previously open item (ephemeral preview tag pin) has been replaced by a SHA, but the size, the JSC-binding and serialized-format changes, and the unverifiable upstream merge status of the new pin mean a human reviewer should still weigh in rather than auto-approving.

Executable lines no longer depend on what ran, so merging the reports of several loads of one file is a union. Of the text JSC compiled, which is only borrowed while a file is registered, it keeps where the lines start and one bit per code unit.CodeCoverage.cppleaves out the program, the body of a generator or of an async function and a static block, as Istanbul does.JSInspectorProfiler.cppleaves out the program, which has the whole-script entry, and the bodies: V8 has a static block as a function.JSInspectorProfiler.cppgives the end of a range as V8 has it, after the last character, and asks JSC for each basic block with its whole range, so that the ranges nest as V8's do.inspector.tslists a range only where its count is not that of the range it is in, as V8 does, and has the script's own block in the entry of the script, also when a function has the same range. Its filter for empty ranges is gone: JSC has none now.js_printer: the mapping of an exported declaration goes afterexport;export defaultmaps the declaration;require(),require.resolve()andimport()of a known path map the expression.js_parser:TransposeState.locis the call forrequire()(it was never set) and forimport()(it was the argument), andrequire.resolve()of a known path has the position of the call too. The import record keeps the range of the string, which is what build errors use. A JSX element is built from its opening tag. An exported async function has the position ofasync, as one that is not exported has. An abstract class has the position ofclass.convertStmtsForChunk: what a bundle keeps ofexport default functionhas the position offunction.index_of_line_rangespushes the last line when the text does not end in a newline.require()that is at63:13was at63:5again.ParsedSourceMap.input_line_count, the parameter ofmapping::parseand ofInternalSourceMap::from_vlq,InternalSourceMap::input_line_count(), andapproximate_input_line_countofChunk's builder. Its 8 bytes of the header stay, unused:bun build --compile --target=bun-linux-x64-v1.4.3embeds a map for the Bun of another version to read.Behaviour
Coverage lines
32 programs run by Bun, by Node 26 with
NODE_V8_COVERAGEand under Istanbul, compared line by line: 793 lines. A line is a bug if Bun says it ran and both say it did not, or the reverse, if Istanbul counts it and Bun does not list it, if Bun lists a blank line, or if the count is not Istanbul's. Sorted by a script; "before" is Bun 1.4.3.bug → not a bug

Where Node stops early there is nothing to compare with. Three lines of them are not a bug → bug:
return Array.from(iterable, function(e, i) {and two like it, 0 → 1, right after a statement that throws. It is the first row above, and V8 has the statement as run too. Bun 1.4.3 had 0 for any line with a function on it that did not run.Everything else

The lines that the rule ofv8-to-istanbulhas as not run are the same for 44 of them (19 on Bun 1.4.3), and the ranges are the same for 38 (0 on Bun 1.4.3).if (x) { return 1; }that returned, it ends the range oflet a = x || g(); g();before|| g(), and has the rest as run.catchfrom the space before it.do…while, which V8 has none for.not a bug → bug: none.

Profiler.takePreciseCoverageoffsets of an imported file are offsets into the transpiled text.Profiler.takePreciseCoveragehas nofunctionName, and no entry for the fields of a class, which V8 has as<instance_members_initializer>. Before, that entry had the range of whatever the class is in.require(variable)has the position of the argument.ErrorEvent.filename,linenoandcolnoof a Worker's error are empty.exportsofexports.value = 1in a CommonJS file that is wrapped is mapped tovalue.1inreturn 1andyield 1, and ofrequireinreturn require("./x"), is at the space before it. test/js/bun/sourcemap/source-positions.test.ts, on the programs ofsource-positions-corpus.ts.at()reports where the runtime says it was called from, and counts its calls;caught(e, "text")does the same for an error the engine threw. Each error is printed before its stack is read, as an error that nothing catches is, and again after. No line or column is written down: the test finds the call in the text./*é*/before each line,/*汉🎉*/before each line, 100 lines above (more mappings than one window of the runtime's source maps).bun test --coverage(lcov, the table, JUnit, inline snapshots),bun run, four bundles (linked, inline + cjs, minified, split), a compiled executable. On Bun 1.4.3, 267 fail. In CI: 1.23 s on Debian 13 x64, 1.98 s on Windows 2019 x64, 4.99 s on x64-asan.
