bunfig.toml takes the same values for jsx as tsconfig.json's compilerOptions.jsx, and tsconfig matches them without regard to case. bunfig accepted only the exact spelling "react-jsxDEV", so the tsconfig spelling "react-jsxdev" made every bun command in that directory fail to load the config.

LGTM — a straightforward == → eq_ignore_ascii_case swap on four fixed comparands, bringing bunfig's jsx key into parity with the tsconfig loader.
What was reviewed:
- Confirmed
src/resolver/tsconfig_json.rs:481lowercases before theRUNTIME_MAPlookup, so the parity claim holds. - Checked the else-branch error path and neighboring
jsxImportSource/jsxFragmentkeys — those take arbitrary identifiers, so case-folding doesn't apply there. - Test follows harness conventions:
tempDir, spreadbunEnv,await using, concurrent pipe drain, stderr/stdout asserted before exit code,describe.concurrent. - No CODEOWNERS match for either changed file.
Extended reasoning...
Overview
This PR changes four byte-slice equality checks in src/bunfig/bunfig.rs (the top-level jsx key parser) from exact == to eq_ignore_ascii_case, so that jsx = "react-jsxdev" — the spelling TypeScript's own docs and tsconfig use — is accepted alongside the previously-required "react-jsxDEV". A describe.concurrent block is appended to test/bundler/bundler_jsx.test.ts that runs bun index.tsx under five case variants of react-jsx/react-jsxdev in a bunfig.toml, with local stub react/jsx-runtime and react/jsx-dev-runtime modules, and asserts the correct runtime function name is emitted.
Security risks
None. The change loosens matching only across ASCII case for a closed set of four literal option values that map to existing enum variants; unrecognized values still hit the same error branch. No user input reaches a filesystem, network, or allocation path any differently than before.
Level of scrutiny
Low. This is a four-line mechanical change with a clear precedent: the tsconfig loader at src/resolver/tsconfig_json.rs:481 already lowercases the same option before lookup, and the bunfig docs present these keys as the tsconfig compilerOptions equivalents. The comparands are fixed ASCII literals, so eq_ignore_ascii_case has no Unicode edge cases to worry about.
Other factors
The test is well-constructed per repo conventions — added to the existing bundler_jsx.test.ts rather than a new file, uses tempDir/bunExe/spread bunEnv, await using on the spawned process, drains stdout/stderr/exited concurrently, asserts output before exit code, and uses describe.concurrent for independent subprocess cases. Three of the five spellings would fail on stock bun (satisfying the USE_SYSTEM_BUN=1 fails / bun bd passes requirement). Neither changed file is covered by .github/CODEOWNERS. The added one-line comment is load-bearing (names the tsconfig parity rationale). Exit reason was dry_streak and there are no outstanding third-party objections in the timeline.

LGTM — the follow-up commit adding react/React classic-runtime cases rounds out the matrix nicely.
What was reviewed:
eq_ignore_ascii_caseswap inbunfig.rs— all four branches converted,react-jsxDEVcomparand lowercased so the case-fold matches.- Test harness usage:
tempDir/bunExe/bunEnvalready imported at the top ofbundler_jsx.test.ts; env is spread, pipes drained viaPromise.all, stderr/stdout asserted before exitCode. - Checked that
solidis the only spelling not exercised by the test — it has no case-variant footgun and no runtime stub to observe, so omission is fine.
Extended reasoning...
Overview
Two files touched. src/bunfig/bunfig.rs swaps four byte-slice == comparisons for eq_ignore_ascii_case when parsing the jsx bunfig key, aligning it with the tsconfig loader's case-insensitive handling of the same option. test/bundler/bundler_jsx.test.ts gains a describe.concurrent block that spawns Bun in a temp dir with seven case variants of the value and asserts the correct JSX runtime function fires. The second commit (a3d209d) added the react/React classic-runtime cases and the createElement stub, which appears to address the earlier inline feedback around the test case list.
Security risks
None. This is config-string matching for a build-time JSX runtime selector; loosening to case-insensitive comparison introduces no new attack surface, and no untrusted-size arithmetic, allocation, or path handling is involved.
Level of scrutiny
Low. The Rust change is a four-line mechanical substitution using a stdlib method with well-understood semantics on &[u8]. The test follows every harness convention REVIEW.md and test/CLAUDE.md call for: tempDir with using, bunEnv spread rather than replaced, concurrent pipe draining, output asserted before exit code, describe.concurrent for independent subprocess cases. Imports were already present at the top of the file, so no missing-symbol risk.
Other factors
No CODEOWNERS cover these paths. The only prior review states were COMMENTED (not CHANGES_REQUESTED), and a subsequent commit modified exactly the area the inline comment pointed at. Exit reason was dry_streak. The one-line comment in the Rust file is load-bearing (explains why case-insensitivity is intentional, pointing at tsconfig parity) rather than change narration.

LGTM — the test.each refactor in the latest push looks good.
What was reviewed:
- The four
eq_ignore_ascii_casecomparisons inbunfig.rs— pure ASCII literals, so this is a memcmp-style compare (not a search), and matches howtsconfig_json.rshandles the same key. - Test harness conventions:
tempDir/bunExe/bunEnvare already imported at the top ofbundler_jsx.test.ts,bunEnvis spread, pipes are drained concurrently, and stdout/stderr are asserted before the exit code. - Variant coverage: mixed-case spellings for
react,react-jsx, andreact-jsxdevare all exercised;solidgained case-insensitivity too but has no case-variant test — minor, not blocking.
Extended reasoning...
Overview
This PR changes four exact byte comparisons in src/bunfig/bunfig.rs (the top-level jsx key parser) to eq_ignore_ascii_case, so bunfig.toml accepts the same spellings of react / react-jsx / react-jsxdev / solid that the tsconfig loader already accepts. A describe.concurrent block with test.each over seven spellings is appended to test/bundler/bundler_jsx.test.ts, spawning bun index.tsx against a tempDir with stub react runtime files and asserting the correct JSX runtime function name is printed.
Security risks
None. This is a config-value string comparison against a fixed set of four ASCII literals; loosening it to case-insensitive matching does not expand the accepted value set beyond those four names and cannot affect anything outside JSX transform selection.
Level of scrutiny
Low. The Rust change is four one-line comparison swaps with no control-flow, allocation, or error-path changes. eq_ignore_ascii_case on &[u8] is the standard idiom and is a comparison (not a search), so the bun_core::strings SIMD-helper rule from src/CLAUDE.md does not apply. The test follows every harness convention called out in REVIEW.md: tempDir with using, await using on the spawned process, { ...bunEnv, NODE_ENV: ... }, concurrent pipe drain via Promise.all, and stderr/stdout asserted before exitCode. The needed imports (tempDir, bunExe, bunEnv, test, describe, expect) are already present at the top of the file.
Other factors
I have posted on two earlier pushes of this PR; the newest commit (3906e6e) is a mechanical for-loop → test.each refactor that plausibly addresses the open CodeRabbit thread on the previous revision's line 1377 (which was the for (const ... of [ line). No CHANGES_REQUESTED reviews are outstanding. The only gap I noticed is that solid has no mixed-case test variant, but the code path is identical to the other three and the change is obviously symmetric, so I don't consider it blocking.

Status: the fix and its test pass on every test lane. The red lanes are not from this change: Reproduced with |
…#41699) Supersedes #35442 ### Problem - `jsx = "solid"` in bunfig.toml, `--jsx-runtime=solid`, and a tsconfig with `jsxImportSource: "solid-js"` all emit `React.createElement(...)` with no warning. A Solid project then fails at run time with `ReferenceError: React is not defined`. - The Solid.js JSX transform was removed in 88538b7 (Dec 2022). The `Runtime::Solid` enum variant and the three option paths that produce it survived. The parser (`src/js_parser/visit/visit_expr.rs`, the `e_jsx_element` visitor) only implements `Classic` and `Automatic`. It treats every other runtime as `Classic`. ### Fix - Remove `Solid` from `api::JsxRuntime` (`src/options_types/schema.rs`) and `jsx::Runtime` (`src/options_types/jsx.rs`), and every arm that mapped to it. No serialized format carries this enum, so the value change is safe. - bunfig `jsx = "solid"` now fails with the existing "Invalid jsx runtime" error, with `'solid'` removed from the listed values. `--jsx-runtime=solid` now fails with `Invalid --jsx-runtime: "solid", expected "automatic" or "classic"` instead of `An internal error occurred (InvalidJSXRuntime)`. A hard error was chosen over a silent alias to `automatic` because `solid` was never documented for either option (`docs/runtime/bunfig.mdx`, `docs/runtime/jsx.mdx`, the `--jsx-runtime` help text) and a silent alias would hide the same class of mistake this PR removes. - tsconfig `jsxImportSource: "solid-js"` no longer forces a runtime. It behaves like `preact` or any other import source: the automatic runtime with imports from `solid-js/jsx-runtime`. This matches TypeScript and esbuild. It is the same `tsconfig_json.rs` deletion as #35442, which deferred the enum removal to a separate change. - Verified: `test/bundler/transpiler/jsx-tsconfig-react-jsx.test.ts` (5 new cases fail on bun 1.4.3 and pass with this change). Also `test/bundler/transpiler/transpiler.test.js`, `test/bundler/esbuild/tsconfig.test.ts`, `test/bundler/bundler_jsx.test.ts`. ### Background - Bun has two JSX transforms. `classic` emits `React.createElement(tag, props, ...children)` and needs a `React` in scope. `automatic` emits `jsx(tag, props)` and imports `jsx` from `<jsxImportSource>/jsx-runtime`. - The old Solid transform compiled JSX to DOM expressions, the way `babel-preset-solid` does. That is a different output shape from both transforms above, and it is what was deleted in 88538b7. - This change does not make Solid work out of the box. `solid-js/jsx-runtime` is a types-only entry point. A Solid project still needs a plugin such as `bun-plugin-solid`. What changes is that Bun no longer emits code that references an undefined `React` global for these configs. <details><summary>Notes</summary> - Repro on 1.4.3: `printf 'jsx = "solid"\n' > bunfig.toml`, `printf 'console.log(<a />);\n' > index.tsx`, `bun build --no-bundle index.tsx` prints `console.log(/* @__PURE__ */ React.createElement("a", null));`. Same with `--jsx-runtime=solid` and no bunfig. - #35460 folded `Solid` to `Automatic` instead of removing it. It was closed as a duplicate of #35442. - #41643 (case-insensitive bunfig `jsx` matching) edits the same lines in `src/bunfig/bunfig.rs` and still lists `solid`. Whichever lands second needs a small rebase. - `Bun.Transpiler` does not auto-inject the jsx import (`autoImportJSX` is off by default there), so the new `Bun.Transpiler` cases assert on the `jsx_...(` / `jsxDEV_...(` call shape instead of the import line. - Self-reviewed: 6 concerns raised, all addressed (issue links, supersede note, #41643 coordination note, `Bun.Transpiler` coverage including `jsx: "preserve"`, plain statement that Solid does not work without a plugin, reason for the hard error). </details> <!-- robobun:evidence:begin --> --- **[human-review]** gate passed · iteration 0 · 9 files touched <details><summary>fails on main (without fix)</summary> ```console ASAN without fix: 5 FAILED $ BUN_DEBUG_QUIET_LOGS=1 bun scripts/build.ts --profile=debug --quiet test "--reporter=junit" "--reporter-outfile=/tmp/pr_gate.xml" test/bundler/transpiler/jsx-tsconfig-react-jsx.test.ts bun test v1.4.3 (f42e980) test/bundler/transpiler/jsx-tsconfig-react-jsx.test.ts: (pass) tsconfig compilerOptions.jsx > "react-jsx" selects the matching automatic runtime [908.74ms] (pass) tsconfig compilerOptions.jsx > "react-jsxdev" selects the matching automatic runtime [754.71ms] 84 | cwd: String(dir), 85 | stdout: "pipe", 86 | stderr: "pipe", 87 | }); 88 | const [stdout, stderr, exitCode] = await Promise.all([proc.stdout.text(), proc.stderr.text(), proc.exited]); 89 | expect(stdout).toContain('"solid-js/jsx-runtime"'); ^ error: expect(received).toContain(expected) Expected to contain: "\"solid-js/jsx-runtime\"" Received: "// m.jsx\nvar a = /* @__PURE__ */ React.createElement(\"div\", {\n p: \"1\"\n}, \"x\");\nexport {\n a\n};\n" at <anonymous> (/workspace/bun/test/bundler/transpiler/jsx-tsconfig-react-jsx.test.ts:89:20) (fail) tsconfig compilerOptions.jsx > jsxImportSource "solid-js" uses the automatic runtime [ ...
