…ript The multi-script runners (filter_run.rs for --filter, multi_run.rs for --parallel/--sequential) build every script's environment from one env map seeded once from the cwd package, swapping in only the per-package PATH before each spawn. Every workspace script therefore saw the root's npm_package_name/version/json, and npm_lifecycle_event, npm_lifecycle_script and npm_command were never set. Add ScriptEnv, which carries PATH plus the npm_package_* vars of the script's package and the npm_lifecycle_* vars of the script itself, and overlays them on the shared map only while building that script's envp. Both runners use it in place of the PATH-only swap, and export npm_command=run-script like plain `bun run` does.

Beyond the inline nit, I checked a few things that looked risky and ruled them out: NullDelimitedEnvMap owns its K=V\0 storage (env_loader.rs:1495), so restoring the shared map after create_envp builds the envp does not invalidate what was returned; ScriptEnv::new/with_script Box::from every byte slice, so the workspace loop in multi_run.rs that drops each pkgjson per iteration does not leave the stored ScriptEnv dangling; and the restore loop in create_envp runs even when a put in the overlay loop fails partway, so a failed spawn does not leak one script's vars into the next.
Extended reasoning...
The PR generalizes the existing per-script PATH swap into a ScriptEnv overlay that also carries npm_package_*/npm_lifecycle_*, applied and restored around each envp build. I verified the returned envp owns its buffers, that all ScriptEnv fields are owned copies (no borrows into the per-iteration PackageJSON in the multi_run workspace path), and that the capture-then-restore in create_envp is idempotent for keys the overlay loop never reached on error. The one inline finding is a pre-existing gap (npm_package_config_*), not a regression.

… into the shared env The per-package ScriptEnv now supplies npm_package_json/name/version and npm_package_config_* for every script, so the runners no longer seed the cwd package into the env they share; a root-only config key or name no longer reaches packages that do not define it. npm_command moves into the shared configure_env_for_multi_script_run.

bc16adc closes the remaining npm_package_config_* root→child gap by routing both runners through configure_env_for_multi_script_run (seed_cwd_package: false), so the cwd package's npm_package_* are never seeded into the shared map — each ScriptEnv brings its own. The updated tests now put config: { port: "3000" } on the root and assert pkg-b sees no npm_package_config_port, which covers exactly the case I raised. No further findings from this pass; given the scope (new ScriptEnv abstraction, a new seed_cwd_package knob on configure_env_for_run_impl, and behavior changes in both spawn paths), a human look is still worthwhile.
Extended reasoning...
Overview
bc16adc is the third iteration on this PR and addresses the last open item from my earlier passes. The change now: adds ScriptEnv (per-script overlay of PATH, npm_package_json/name/version, npm_package_config_*, and — for package.json scripts — npm_lifecycle_event/script) with create_envp that overlays into the shared env map, builds the envp, and restores the previous entries; adds configure_env_for_multi_script_run, which calls configure_env_for_run_impl with seed_cwd_package: false so the cwd package's npm_package_* are not seeded into the shared map at all, and puts npm_command=run-script; and rewires both filter_run.rs and multi_run.rs to build a ScriptEnv per package (and .with_script(...) per pre/main/post entry) in place of the old PATH-only swap.
What was verified this pass
seed_cwd_package: falsegates exactly the block at run_command.rs:830-861 (npm_package_name/json/version+npm_package_config_*);npm_execpathand everything before it are still seeded, which is correct since those are per-process.- The restore loop in
create_envphandles both put-back and remove (None => map.remove(key)), so a script's overlay never reaches the next spawn even when the next package lacks that key. Combined with not seeding the root's values, the root→child leakage is closed structurally rather than by post-hoc stripping. - Both new tests now put
config: { port: "3000" }on the workspace root and assert pkg-b (noconfig) has nonpm_package_config_port, exercising the case my 09:05 comment flagged. The filter-workspace test also assertsstderr: "", which addresses CodeRabbit's stderr nit for that file (multi-run.test.ts can't assert empty stderr because status lines go there by design). - Callers previously discarded
configure_env_for_run'sDirInfoRefreturn, so the new-> Result<()>wrapper drops nothing.
Security risks
None identified — this is env-var plumbing for bun run script spawning; no auth, crypto, or untrusted-input parsing is touched.
Level of scrutiny
Medium. The change is well-scoped and thoroughly tested, but it introduces a new abstraction, threads a new bool through configure_env_for_run_impl, and changes user-visible behavior in two separate runners. That is more than a mechanical fix, so I'm not auto-approving.
Other factors
The two comment-cop notices at 09:48 point at a 2-line field comment (filter_run.rs:312, which this PR shortened) and a 2-line doc comment on the new wrapper (run_command.rs:649); neither reads as a workaround justification to me.
