I2C errors in console #11
Comments
These look like systemd-journald errors, not i2c errors |
It seems like #12 is the culprit. If we are flooding out i2c logs to the console then systemd might not be able to keep up. Seems like two different symptoms of the same problem. |
Should be fixed by 3cd273e, but there seems to be other issues with i2cdetect. |

When a seq-virmidi driver is initialized, it registers a rawmidi instance with its callback to create an associated seq kernel client. Currently it's done throughly in rawmidi's register_mutex context. Recently it was found that this may lead to a deadlock another rawmidi device that is being attached with the sequencer is accessed, as both open with the same register_mutex. This was actually triggered by syzkaller, as Dmitry Vyukov reported: ====================================================== [ INFO: possible circular locking dependency detected ] 4.8.0-rc1+ openbmc#11 Not tainted ------------------------------------------------------- syz-executor/7154 is trying to acquire lock: (register_mutex#5){+.+.+.}, at: [<ffffffff84fd6d4b>] snd_rawmidi_kernel_open+0x4b/0x260 sound/core/rawmidi.c:341 but task is already holding lock: (&grp->list_mutex){++++.+}, at: [<ffffffff850138bb>] check_and_subscribe_port+0x5b/0x5c0 sound/core/seq/seq_ports.c:495 which lock already depends on the new lock. the existing dependency chain (in reverse order) is: -> openbmc#1 (&grp->list_mutex){++++.+}: [<ffffffff8147a3a8>] lock_acquire+0x208/0x430 kernel/locking/lockdep.c:3746 [<ffffffff863f6199>] down_read+0x49/0xc0 kernel/locking/rwsem.c:22 [< inline >] deliver_to_subscribers sound/core/seq/seq_clientmgr.c:681 [<ffffffff85005c5e>] snd_seq_deliver_event+0x35e/0x890 sound/core/seq/seq_clientmgr.c:822 [<ffffffff85006e96>] > snd_seq_kernel_client_dispatch+0x126/0x170 sound/core/seq/seq_clientmgr.c:2418 [<ffffffff85012c52>] snd_seq_system_broadcast+0xb2/0xf0 sound/core/seq/seq_system.c:101 [<ffffffff84fff70a>] snd_seq_create_kernel_client+0x24a/0x330 sound/core/seq/seq_clientmgr.c:2297 [< inline >] snd_virmidi_dev_attach_seq sound/core/seq/seq_virmidi.c:383 [<ffffffff8502d29f>] snd_virmidi_dev_register+0x29f/0x750 sound/core/seq/seq_virmidi.c:450 [<ffffffff84fd208c>] snd_rawmidi_dev_register+0x30c/0xd40 sound/core/rawmidi.c:1645 [<ffffffff84f816d3>] __snd_device_register.part.0+0x63/0xc0 sound/core/device.c:164 [< inline >] __snd_device_register sound/core/device.c:162 [<ffffffff84f8235d>] snd_device_register_all+0xad/0x110 sound/core/device.c:212 [<ffffffff84f7546f>] snd_card_register+0xef/0x6c0 sound/core/init.c:749 [<ffffffff85040b7f>] snd_virmidi_probe+0x3ef/0x590 sound/drivers/virmidi.c:123 [<ffffffff833ebf7b>] platform_drv_probe+0x8b/0x170 drivers/base/platform.c:564 ...... -> #0 (register_mutex#5){+.+.+.}: [< inline >] check_prev_add kernel/locking/lockdep.c:1829 [< inline >] check_prevs_add kernel/locking/lockdep.c:1939 [< inline >] validate_chain kernel/locking/lockdep.c:2266 [<ffffffff814791f4>] __lock_acquire+0x4d44/0x4d80 kernel/locking/lockdep.c:3335 [<ffffffff8147a3a8>] lock_acquire+0x208/0x430 kernel/locking/lockdep.c:3746 [< inline >] __mutex_lock_common kernel/locking/mutex.c:521 [<ffffffff863f0ef1>] mutex_lock_nested+0xb1/0xa20 kernel/locking/mutex.c:621 [<ffffffff84fd6d4b>] snd_rawmidi_kernel_open+0x4b/0x260 sound/core/rawmidi.c:341 [<ffffffff8502e7c7>] midisynth_subscribe+0xf7/0x350 sound/core/seq/seq_midi.c:188 [< inline >] subscribe_port sound/core/seq/seq_ports.c:427 [<ffffffff85013cc7>] check_and_subscribe_port+0x467/0x5c0 sound/core/seq/seq_ports.c:510 [<ffffffff85015da9>] snd_seq_port_connect+0x2c9/0x500 sound/core/seq/seq_ports.c:579 [<ffffffff850079b8>] snd_seq_ioctl_subscribe_port+0x1d8/0x2b0 sound/core/seq/seq_clientmgr.c:1480 [<ffffffff84ffe9e4>] snd_seq_do_ioctl+0x184/0x1e0 sound/core/seq/seq_clientmgr.c:2225 [<ffffffff84ffeae8>] snd_seq_kernel_client_ctl+0xa8/0x110 sound/core/seq/seq_clientmgr.c:2440 [<ffffffff85027664>] snd_seq_oss_midi_open+0x3b4/0x610 sound/core/seq/oss/seq_oss_midi.c:375 [<ffffffff85023d67>] snd_seq_oss_synth_setup_midi+0x107/0x4c0 sound/core/seq/oss/seq_oss_synth.c:281 [<ffffffff8501b0a8>] snd_seq_oss_open+0x748/0x8d0 sound/core/seq/oss/seq_oss_init.c:274 [<ffffffff85019d8a>] odev_open+0x6a/0x90 sound/core/seq/oss/seq_oss.c:138 [<ffffffff84f7040f>] soundcore_open+0x30f/0x640 sound/sound_core.c:639 ...... other info that might help us debug this: Possible unsafe locking scenario: CPU0 CPU1 ---- ---- lock(&grp->list_mutex); lock(register_mutex#5); lock(&grp->list_mutex); lock(register_mutex#5); *** DEADLOCK *** ====================================================== The fix is to simply move the registration parts in snd_rawmidi_dev_register() to the outside of the register_mutex lock. [ Upstream commit 45caeaa ] As Eric Dumazet pointed out this also needs to be fixed in IPv6. v2: Contains the IPv6 tcp/Ipv6 dccp patches as well. We have seen a few incidents lately where a dst_enty has been freed with a dangling TCP socket reference (sk->sk_dst_cache) pointing to that dst_entry. If the conditions/timings are right a crash then ensues when the freed dst_entry is referenced later on. A Common crashing back trace is: openbmc#8 [] page_fault at ffffffff8163e648 [exception RIP: __tcp_ack_snd_check+74] . . openbmc#9 [] tcp_rcv_established at ffffffff81580b64 openbmc#10 [] tcp_v4_do_rcv at ffffffff8158b54a openbmc#11 [] tcp_v4_rcv at ffffffff8158cd02 openbmc#12 [] ip_local_deliver_finish at ffffffff815668f4 openbmc#13 [] ip_local_deliver at ffffffff81566bd9 openbmc#14 [] ip_rcv_finish at ffffffff8156656d openbmc#15 [] ip_rcv at ffffffff81566f06 openbmc#16 [] __netif_receive_skb_core at ffffffff8152b3a2 openbmc#17 [] __netif_receive_skb at ffffffff8152b608 openbmc#18 [] netif_receive_skb at ffffffff8152b690 openbmc#19 [] vmxnet3_rq_rx_complete at ffffffffa015eeaf [vmxnet3] openbmc#20 [] vmxnet3_poll_rx_only at ffffffffa015f32a [vmxnet3] openbmc#21 [] net_rx_action at ffffffff8152bac2 openbmc#22 [] __do_softirq at ffffffff81084b4f openbmc#23 [] call_softirq at ffffffff8164845c openbmc#24 [] do_softirq at ffffffff81016fc5 openbmc#25 [] irq_exit at ffffffff81084ee5 openbmc#26 [] do_IRQ at ffffffff81648ff8 Of course it may happen with other NIC drivers as well. It's found the freed dst_entry here: 224 static bool tcp_in_quickack_mode(struct sock *sk)↩ 225 {↩ 226 ▹ const struct inet_connection_sock *icsk = inet_csk(sk);↩ 227 ▹ const struct dst_entry *dst = __sk_dst_get(sk);↩ 228 ↩ 229 ▹ return (dst && dst_metric(dst, RTAX_QUICKACK)) ||↩ 230 ▹ ▹ (icsk->icsk_ack.quick && !icsk->icsk_ack.pingpong);↩ 231 }↩ But there are other backtraces attributed to the same freed dst_entry in netfilter code as well. All the vmcores showed 2 significant clues: - Remote hosts behind the default gateway had always been redirected to a different gateway. A rtable/dst_entry will be added for that host. Making more dst_entrys with lower reference counts. Making this more probable. - All vmcores showed a postitive LockDroppedIcmps value, e.g: LockDroppedIcmps 267 A closer look at the tcp_v4_err() handler revealed that do_redirect() will run regardless of whether user space has the socket locked. This can result in a race condition where the same dst_entry cached in sk->sk_dst_entry can be decremented twice for the same socket via: do_redirect()->__sk_dst_check()-> dst_release(). Which leads to the dst_entry being prematurely freed with another socket pointing to it via sk->sk_dst_cache and a subsequent crash. To fix this skip do_redirect() if usespace has the socket locked. Instead let the redirect take place later when user space does not have the socket locked. The dccp/IPv6 code is very similar in this respect, so fixing it there too. As Eric Garver pointed out the following commit now invalidates routes. Which can set the dst->obsolete flag so that ipv4_dst_check() returns null and triggers the dst_release(). Thomas reported that 'perf buildid-list' gets a SEGFAULT due to NULL pointer deref when he ran it on a data with namespace events. It was because the buildid_id__mark_dso_hit_ops lacks the namespace event handler and perf_too__fill_default() didn't set it. Indeed, the lock acquired in uart_put_char() is uport->lock, i.e. not the same lock. Anyway, since the lock is not acquired, if uart_shutdown() is called, the last chunk of that function may release state->xmit.buf before its assigned to null, and cause the race above. To fix it, let's lock uport->lock when allocating/deallocating state->xmit.buf in addition to the per-port mutex. v2: switch to locking uport->lock on allocation/deallocation instead of locking the per-port mutex in uart_put_char. Note that since uport->lock is a spin lock, we have to switch the allocation to GFP_ATOMIC. v3: move the allocation outside the lock, so we can switch back to GFP_KERNEL Signed-off-by: Tycho Andersen <[email protected]> Cc: stable <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <[email protected]>

[ Upstream commit 46b3722 ] We occasionaly hit following assert failure in 'perf top', when processing the /proc info in multiple threads. perf: ...include/linux/refcount.h:109: refcount_inc: Assertion `!(!refcount_inc_not_zero(r))' failed. The gdb backtrace looks like this: [Switching to Thread 0x7ffff11ba700 (LWP 13749)] 0x00007ffff50839fb in raise () from /lib64/libc.so.6 (gdb) #0 0x00007ffff50839fb in raise () from /lib64/libc.so.6 #1 0x00007ffff5085800 in abort () from /lib64/libc.so.6 #2 0x00007ffff507c0da in __assert_fail_base () from /lib64/libc.so.6 #3 0x00007ffff507c152 in __assert_fail () from /lib64/libc.so.6 #4 0x0000000000535373 in refcount_inc (r=0x7fffdc009be0) at ...include/linux/refcount.h:109 #5 0x00000000005354f1 in comm_str__get (cs=0x7fffdc009bc0) at util/comm.c:24 #6 0x00000000005356bd in __comm_str__findnew (str=0x7fffd000b260 ":2", root=0xbed5c0 <comm_str_root>) at util/comm.c:72 #7 0x000000000053579e in comm_str__findnew (str=0x7fffd000b260 ":2", root=0xbed5c0 <comm_str_root>) at util/comm.c:95 #8 0x000000000053582e in comm__new (str=0x7fffd000b260 ":2", timestamp=0, exec=false) at util/comm.c:111 #9 0x00000000005363bc in thread__new (pid=2, tid=2) at util/thread.c:57 #10 0x0000000000523da0 in ____machine__findnew_thread (machine=0xbfde38, threads=0xbfdf28, pid=2, tid=2, create=true) at util/machine.c:457 #11 0x0000000000523eb4 in __machine__findnew_thread (machine=0xbfde38, ... The failing assertion is this one: REFCOUNT_WARN(!refcount_inc_not_zero(r), ... The problem is that we keep global comm_str_root list, which is accessed by multiple threads during the 'perf top' startup and following 2 paths can race: thread 1: ... thread__new comm__new comm_str__findnew down_write(&comm_str_lock); __comm_str__findnew comm_str__get thread 2: ... comm__override or comm__free comm_str__put refcount_dec_and_test down_write(&comm_str_lock); rb_erase(&cs->rb_node, &comm_str_root); Because thread 2 first decrements the refcnt and only after then it removes the struct comm_str from the list, the thread 1 can find this object on the list with refcnt equls to 0 and hit the assert. This patch fixes the thread 1 __comm_str__findnew path, by ignoring objects that already dropped the refcnt to 0. For the rest of the objects we take the refcnt before comparing its name and release it afterwards with comm_str__put, which can also release the object completely. [ Upstream commit c5a94f4 ] It was observed that a process blocked indefintely in __fscache_read_or_alloc_page(), waiting for FSCACHE_COOKIE_LOOKING_UP to be cleared via fscache_wait_for_deferred_lookup(). At this time, ->backing_objects was empty, which would normaly prevent __fscache_read_or_alloc_page() from getting to the point of waiting. This implies that ->backing_objects was cleared *after* __fscache_read_or_alloc_page was was entered. When an object is "killed" and then "dropped", FSCACHE_COOKIE_LOOKING_UP is cleared in fscache_lookup_failure(), then KILL_OBJECT and DROP_OBJECT are "called" and only in DROP_OBJECT is ->backing_objects cleared. This leaves a window where something else can set FSCACHE_COOKIE_LOOKING_UP and __fscache_read_or_alloc_page() can start waiting, before ->backing_objects is cleared There is some uncertainty in this analysis, but it seems to be fit the observations. Adding the wake in this patch will be handled correctly by __fscache_read_or_alloc_page(), as it checks if ->backing_objects is empty again, after waiting. Customer which reported the hang, also report that the hang cannot be reproduced with this fix. The backtrace for the blocked process looked like: PID: 29360 TASK: ffff881ff2ac0f80 CPU: 3 COMMAND: "zsh" #0 [ffff881ff43efbf8] schedule at ffffffff815e56f1 #1 [ffff881ff43efc58] bit_wait at ffffffff815e64ed #2 [ffff881ff43efc68] __wait_on_bit at ffffffff815e61b8 #3 [ffff881ff43efca0] out_of_line_wait_on_bit at ffffffff815e625e #4 [ffff881ff43efd08] fscache_wait_for_deferred_lookup at ffffffffa04f2e8f [fscache] #5 [ffff881ff43efd18] __fscache_read_or_alloc_page at ffffffffa04f2ffe [fscache] #6 [ffff881ff43efd58] __nfs_readpage_from_fscache at ffffffffa0679668 [nfs] #7 [ffff881ff43efd78] nfs_readpage at ffffffffa067092b [nfs] #8 [ffff881ff43efda0] generic_file_read_iter at ffffffff81187a73 #9 [ffff881ff43efe50] nfs_file_read at ffffffffa066544b [nfs] #10 [ffff881ff43efe70] __vfs_read at ffffffff811fc756 #11 [ffff881ff43efee8] vfs_read at ffffffff811fccfa #12 [ffff881ff43eff18] sys_read at ffffffff811fda62 #13 [ffff881ff43eff50] entry_SYSCALL_64_fastpath at ffffffff815e986e Signed-off-by: NeilBrown <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: David Howells <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Sasha Levin <[email protected]>

…ll_sock(). [ Upstream commit cb66ddd ] When it is to cleanup net namespace, rds_tcp_exit_net() will call rds_tcp_kill_sock(), if t_sock is NULL, it will not call rds_conn_destroy(), rds_conn_path_destroy() and rds_tcp_conn_free() to free connection, and the worker cp_conn_w is not stopped, afterwards the net is freed in net_drop_ns(); While cp_conn_w rds_connect_worker() will call rds_tcp_conn_path_connect() and reference 'net' which has already been freed. In rds_tcp_conn_path_connect(), rds_tcp_set_callbacks() will set t_sock = sock before sock->ops->connect, but if connect() is failed, it will call rds_tcp_restore_callbacks() and set t_sock = NULL, if connect is always failed, rds_connect_worker() will try to reconnect all the time, so rds_tcp_kill_sock() will never to cancel worker cp_conn_w and free the connections. Therefore, the condition !tc->t_sock is not needed if it is going to do cleanup_net->rds_tcp_exit_net->rds_tcp_kill_sock, because tc->t_sock is always NULL, and there is on other path to cancel cp_conn_w and free connection. So this patch is to fix this. rds_tcp_kill_sock(): ... if (net != c_net || !tc->t_sock) ... commit e135440 upstream. The "hmac(sha3-224-generic)" algorithm has a descsize of 368 bytes, which is greater than HASH_MAX_DESCSIZE (360) which is only enough for sha3-224-generic. The check in shash_prepare_alg() doesn't catch this because the HMAC template doesn't set descsize on the algorithms, but rather sets it on each individual HMAC transform. This causes a stack buffer overflow when SHASH_DESC_ON_STACK() is used with hmac(sha3-224-generic). Fix it by increasing HASH_MAX_DESCSIZE to the real maximum. Also add a sanity check to hmac_init(). This was detected by the improved crypto self-tests in v5.2, by loading the tcrypt module with CONFIG_CRYPTO_MANAGER_EXTRA_TESTS=y enabled. I didn't notice this bug when I ran the self-tests by requesting the algorithms via AF_ALG (i.e., not using tcrypt), probably because the stack layout differs in the two cases and that made a difference here. This gap is missed in XEN PV int3 exception entry path, then below panic triggered: [ 0.772876] general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP NOPTI [ 0.772886] CPU: 0 PID: 0 Comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 5.2.0+ #11 [ 0.772893] RIP: e030:int3_magic+0x0/0x7 [ 0.772905] RSP: 3507:ffffffff82203e98 EFLAGS: 00000246 [ 0.773334] Call Trace: [ 0.773334] alternative_instructions+0x3d/0x12e [ 0.773334] check_bugs+0x7c9/0x887 [ 0.773334] ? __get_locked_pte+0x178/0x1f0 [ 0.773334] start_kernel+0x4ff/0x535 [ 0.773334] ? set_init_arg+0x55/0x55 [ 0.773334] xen_start_kernel+0x571/0x57a For 64bit PV guests, Xen's ABI enters the kernel with using SYSRET, with %rcx/%r11 on the stack. To convert back to "normal" looking exceptions, the xen thunks do 'xen_*: pop %rcx; pop %r11; jmp *'. E.g. Extracting 'xen_pv_trap xenint3' we have: xen_xenint3: pop %rcx; pop %r11; jmp xenint3 As xenint3 and int3 entry code are same except xenint3 doesn't generate a gap, we can fix it by using int3 and drop useless xenint3. commit d0a255e upstream. A deadlock with this stacktrace was observed. The loop thread does a GFP_KERNEL allocation, it calls into dm-bufio shrinker and the shrinker depends on I/O completion in the dm-bufio subsystem. In order to fix the deadlock (and other similar ones), we set the flag PF_MEMALLOC_NOIO at loop thread entry. This means btrfs_submit_bio() would split the bio, and trigger endio function for both of the two halves. However scrub_submit_initial_read() would only expect the endio function to be called once, not any more. This means the first endio function would already free the bbio::bio, leaving the bvec freed, thus the 2nd endio call would lead to use-after-free. [FIX] - Make sure scrub_read_endio() only updates bits in its range Since we may read less than 64K at the end of the chunk, we should not touch the bits beyond chunk boundary. - Make sure scrub_submit_initial_read() only to read the chunk range This is done by calculating the real number of sectors we need to read, and add sector-by-sector to the bio. Thankfully the scrub read repair path won't need extra fixes: - scrub_stripe_submit_repair_read() With above fixes, we won't update error bit for range beyond chunk, thus scrub_stripe_submit_repair_read() should never submit any read beyond the chunk. commit d21d406 upstream. syzkaller reported infinite recursive calls of fib6_dump_done() during netlink socket destruction. [1] From the log, syzkaller sent an AF_UNSPEC RTM_GETROUTE message, and then the response was generated. The following recvmmsg() resumed the dump for IPv6, but the first call of inet6_dump_fib() failed at kzalloc() due to the fault injection. [0] 12:01:34 executing program 3: r0 = socket$nl_route(0x10, 0x3, 0x0) sendmsg$nl_route(r0, ... snip ...) recvmmsg(r0, ... snip ...) (fail_nth: 8) Here, fib6_dump_done() was set to nlk_sk(sk)->cb.done, and the next call of inet6_dump_fib() set it to nlk_sk(sk)->cb.args[3]. syzkaller stopped receiving the response halfway through, and finally netlink_sock_destruct() called nlk_sk(sk)->cb.done(). fib6_dump_done() calls fib6_dump_end() and nlk_sk(sk)->cb.done() if it is still not NULL. fib6_dump_end() rewrites nlk_sk(sk)->cb.done() by nlk_sk(sk)->cb.args[3], but it has the same function, not NULL, calling itself recursively and hitting the stack guard page. To avoid the issue, let's set the destructor after kzalloc(). (fail_nth: 8) Here, fib6_dump_done() was set to nlk_sk(sk)->cb.done, and the next call of inet6_dump_fib() set it to nlk_sk(sk)->cb.args[3]. syzkaller stopped receiving the response halfway through, and finally netlink_sock_destruct() called nlk_sk(sk)->cb.done(). fib6_dump_done() calls fib6_dump_end() and nlk_sk(sk)->cb.done() if it is still not NULL. fib6_dump_end() rewrites nlk_sk(sk)->cb.done() by nlk_sk(sk)->cb.args[3], but it has the same function, not NULL, calling itself recursively and hitting the stack guard page. To avoid the issue, let's set the destructor after kzalloc(). vhost_worker will call tun call backs to receive packets. If too many illegal packets arrives, tun_do_read will keep dumping packet contents. When console is enabled, it will costs much more cpu time to dump packet and soft lockup will be detected. net_ratelimit mechanism can be used to limit the dumping rate. Some time ago the block layer was modified such that timeout handlers are called from thread context instead of interrupt context. Make it safe to run the iSCSI timeout handler in thread context. [ Upstream commit 769e6a1 ] ui_browser__show() is capturing the input title that is stack allocated memory in hist_browser__run(). Avoid a use after return by strdup-ing the string. Committer notes: Further explanation from Ian Rogers: My command line using tui is: $ sudo bash -c 'rm /tmp/asan.log*; export ASAN_OPTIONS="log_path=/tmp/asan.log"; /tmp/perf/perf mem record -a sleep 1; /tmp/perf/perf mem report' I then go to the perf annotate view and quit. Furthermore, item 183 is the last item in the leaf. btrfs_log_prealloc_extents() is responsible for logging prealloc extents beyond i_size. It first truncates any previously logged prealloc extents that start beyond i_size. Then, it walks the filesystem tree and copies the prealloc extent items to the log tree. If it hits the end of a leaf, then it calls btrfs_next_leaf(), which unlocks the tree and does another search. However, while the filesystem tree is unlocked, an ordered extent completion may modify the tree. In particular, it may insert an extent item that overlaps with an extent item that was already copied to the log tree. This may manifest in several ways depending on the exact scenario, including an EEXIST error that is silently translated to a full sync, overlapping items in the log tree, or this crash. This particular crash is triggered by the following sequence of events: - Initially, the file has i_size=4k, a regular extent from 0-4k, and a prealloc extent beyond i_size from 4k-12k. The prealloc extent item is the last item in its B-tree leaf. - The file is fsync'd, which copies its inode item and both extent items to the log tree. - An xattr is set on the file, which sets the BTRFS_INODE_COPY_EVERYTHING flag. - The range 4k-8k in the file is written using direct I/O. i_size is extended to 8k, but the ordered extent is still in flight. - The file is fsync'd. Since BTRFS_INODE_COPY_EVERYTHING is set, this calls copy_inode_items_to_log(), which calls btrfs_log_prealloc_extents(). - btrfs_log_prealloc_extents() finds the 4k-12k prealloc extent in the filesystem tree. Since it starts before i_size, it skips it. Since it is the last item in its B-tree leaf, it calls btrfs_next_leaf(). - btrfs_next_leaf() unlocks the path. - The ordered extent completion runs, which converts the 4k-8k part of the prealloc extent to written and inserts the remaining prealloc part from 8k-12k. - btrfs_next_leaf() does a search and finds the new prealloc extent 8k-12k. - btrfs_log_prealloc_extents() copies the 8k-12k prealloc extent into the log tree. Note that it overlaps with the 4k-12k prealloc extent that was copied to the log tree by the first fsync. - fsync calls btrfs_log_changed_extents(), which tries to log the 4k-8k extent that was written. - This tries to drop the range 4k-8k in the log tree, which requires adjusting the start of the 4k-12k prealloc extent in the log tree to 8k. - btrfs_set_item_key_safe() sees that there is already an extent starting at 8k in the log tree and calls BUG(). Fix this by detecting when we're about to insert an overlapping file extent item in the log tree and truncating the part that would overlap. commit be346c1 upstream. The code in ocfs2_dio_end_io_write() estimates number of necessary transaction credits using ocfs2_calc_extend_credits(). This however does not take into account that the IO could be arbitrarily large and can contain arbitrary number of extents. Extent tree manipulations do often extend the current transaction but not in all of the cases. For example if we have only single block extents in the tree, ocfs2_mark_extent_written() will end up calling ocfs2_replace_extent_rec() all the time and we will never extend the current transaction and eventually exhaust all the transaction credits if the IO contains many single block extents. Once that happens a WARN_ON(jbd2_handle_buffer_credits(handle) <= 0) is triggered in jbd2_journal_dirty_metadata() and subsequently OCFS2 aborts in response to this error. This was actually triggered by one of our customers on a heavily fragmented OCFS2 filesystem. To fix the issue make sure the transaction always has enough credits for one extent insert before each call of ocfs2_mark_extent_written(). commit d21d406 upstream. syzkaller reported infinite recursive calls of fib6_dump_done() during netlink socket destruction. [ Upstream commit a699781 ] A sysfs reader can race with a device reset or removal, attempting to read device state when the device is not actually present. eg: [exception RIP: qed_get_current_link+17] #8 [ffffb9e4f2907c48] qede_get_link_ksettings at ffffffffc07a994a [qede] #9 [ffffb9e4f2907cd8] __rh_call_get_link_ksettings at ffffffff992b01a3 #10 [ffffb9e4f2907d38] __ethtool_get_link_ksettings at ffffffff992b04e4 #11 [ffffb9e4f2907d90] duplex_show at ffffffff99260300 #12 [ffffb9e4f2907e38] dev_attr_show at ffffffff9905a01c #13 [ffffb9e4f2907e50] sysfs_kf_seq_show at ffffffff98e0145b #14 [ffffb9e4f2907e68] seq_read at ffffffff98d902e3 #15 [ffffb9e4f2907ec8] vfs_read at ffffffff98d657d1 #16 [ffffb9e4f2907f00] ksys_read at ffffffff98d65c3f #17 [ffffb9e4f2907f38] do_syscall_64 at ffffffff98a052fb crash> struct net_device.state ffff9a9d21336000 state = 5, state 5 is __LINK_STATE_START (0b1) and __LINK_STATE_NOCARRIER (0b100). Daniel Machon says: ==================== net: lan966x: use the newly introduced FDMA library This patch series is the second of a 2-part series [1], that adds a new common FDMA library for Microchip switch chips Sparx5 and lan966x. These chips share the same FDMA engine, and as such will benefit from a common library with a common implementation. This also has the benefit of removing a lot of open-coded bookkeeping and duplicate code for the two drivers. In this second series, the FDMA library will be taken into use by the lan966x switch driver. ################### # Example of use: # ################### - Initialize the rx and tx fdma structs with values for: number of DCB's, number of DB's, channel ID, DB size (data buffer size), and total size of the requested memory. Also provide two callbacks: nextptr_cb() and dataptr_cb() for getting the nextptr and dataptr. - Allocate memory using fdma_alloc_phys() or fdma_alloc_coherent(). - Initialize the DCB's with fdma_dcb_init(). - Add new DCB's with fdma_dcb_add(). - Free memory with fdma_free_phys() or fdma_free_coherent(). ##################### # Patch breakdown: # ##################### Patch openbmc#1: select FDMA library for lan966x. Patch openbmc#2: includes the fdma_api.h header and removes old symbols. Patch openbmc#3: replaces old rx and tx variables with equivalent ones from the fdma struct. Only the variables that can be changed without breaking traffic is changed in this patch. Patch openbmc#4: uses the library for allocation of rx buffers. This requires quite a bit of refactoring in this single patch. Patch openbmc#5: uses the library for adding DCB's in the rx path. Patch openbmc#6: uses the library for freeing rx buffers. Patch openbmc#7: uses the library for allocation of tx buffers. This requires quite a bit of refactoring in this single patch. Patch openbmc#8: uses the library for adding DCB's in the tx path. Patch openbmc#9: uses the library helpers in the tx path. Patch openbmc#10: ditch last_in_use variable and use library instead. Patch openbmc#11: uses library helpers throughout. commit d21d406 upstream. syzkaller reported infinite recursive calls of fib6_dump_done() during netlink socket destruction. So rq_qos_wake_function() calls wake_up_process(data->task), which calls try_to_wake_up(), which faults in raw_spin_lock_irqsave(&p->pi_lock). p comes from data->task, and data comes from the waitqueue entry, which is stored on the waiter's stack in rq_qos_wait(). Analyzing the core dump with drgn, I found that the waiter had already woken up and moved on to a completely unrelated code path, clobbering what was previously data->task. Meanwhile, the waker was passing the clobbered garbage in data->task to wake_up_process(), leading to the crash. What's happening is that in between rq_qos_wake_function() deleting the waitqueue entry and calling wake_up_process(), rq_qos_wait() is finding that it already got a token and returning. The race looks like this: rq_qos_wait() rq_qos_wake_function() ============================================================== prepare_to_wait_exclusive() data->got_token = true; list_del_init(&curr->entry); if (data.got_token) break; finish_wait(&rqw->wait, &data.wq); ^- returns immediately because list_empty_careful(&wq_entry->entry) is true ... return, go do something else ... wake_up_process(data->task) (NO LONGER VALID!)-^ Normally, finish_wait() is supposed to synchronize against the waker. But, as noted above, it is returning immediately because the waitqueue entry has already been removed from the waitqueue. The bug is that rq_qos_wake_function() is accessing the waitqueue entry AFTER deleting it. Note that autoremove_wake_function() wakes the waiter and THEN deletes the waitqueue entry, which is the proper order. Fix it by swapping the order. We also need to use list_del_init_careful() to match the list_empty_careful() in finish_wait(). commit 9af2efe upstream. The fields in the hist_entry are filled on-demand which means they only have meaningful values when relevant sort keys are used. So if neither of 'dso' nor 'sym' sort keys are used, the map/symbols in the hist entry can be garbage. So it shouldn't access it unconditionally. I got a segfault, when I wanted to see cgroup profiles. $ sudo perf record -a --all-cgroups --synth=cgroup true $ sudo perf report -s cgroup Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x00005555557a8d90 in map__dso (map=0x0) at util/map.h:48 48 return RC_CHK_ACCESS(map)->dso; (gdb) bt #0 0x00005555557a8d90 in map__dso (map=0x0) at util/map.h:48 #1 0x00005555557aa39b in map__load (map=0x0) at util/map.c:344 #2 0x00005555557aa592 in map__find_symbol (map=0x0, addr=140736115941088) at util/map.c:385 #3 0x00005555557ef000 in hists__findnew_entry (hists=0x555556039d60, entry=0x7fffffffa4c0, al=0x7fffffffa8c0, sample_self=true) at util/hist.c:644 #4 0x00005555557ef61c in __hists__add_entry (hists=0x555556039d60, al=0x7fffffffa8c0, sym_parent=0x0, bi=0x0, mi=0x0, ki=0x0, block_info=0x0, sample=0x7fffffffaa90, sample_self=true, ops=0x0) at util/hist.c:761 openbmc#5 0x00005555557ef71f in hists__add_entry (hists=0x555556039d60, al=0x7fffffffa8c0, sym_parent=0x0, bi=0x0, mi=0x0, ki=0x0, sample=0x7fffffffaa90, sample_self=true) at util/hist.c:779 openbmc#6 0x00005555557f00fb in iter_add_single_normal_entry (iter=0x7fffffffa900, al=0x7fffffffa8c0) at util/hist.c:1015 openbmc#7 0x00005555557f09a7 in hist_entry_iter__add (iter=0x7fffffffa900, al=0x7fffffffa8c0, max_stack_depth=127, arg=0x7fffffffbce0) at util/hist.c:1260 openbmc#8 0x00005555555ba7ce in process_sample_event (tool=0x7fffffffbce0, event=0x7ffff7c14128, sample=0x7fffffffaa90, evsel=0x555556039ad0, machine=0x5555560388e8) at builtin-report.c:334 openbmc#9 0x00005555557b30c8 in evlist__deliver_sample (evlist=0x555556039010, tool=0x7fffffffbce0, event=0x7ffff7c14128, sample=0x7fffffffaa90, evsel=0x555556039ad0, machine=0x5555560388e8) at util/session.c:1232 openbmc#10 0x00005555557b32bc in machines__deliver_event (machines=0x5555560388e8, evlist=0x555556039010, event=0x7ffff7c14128, sample=0x7fffffffaa90, tool=0x7fffffffbce0, file_offset=110888, file_path=0x555556038ff0 "perf.data") at util/session.c:1271 openbmc#11 0x00005555557b3848 in perf_session__deliver_event (session=0x5555560386d0, event=0x7ffff7c14128, tool=0x7fffffffbce0, file_offset=110888, file_path=0x555556038ff0 "perf.data") at util/session.c:1354 openbmc#12 0x00005555557affaf in ordered_events__deliver_event (oe=0x555556038e60, event=0x555556135aa0) at util/session.c:132 openbmc#13 0x00005555557bb605 in do_flush (oe=0x555556038e60, show_progress=false) at util/ordered-events.c:245 openbmc#14 0x00005555557bb95c in __ordered_events__flush (oe=0x555556038e60, how=OE_FLUSH__ROUND, timestamp=0) at util/ordered-events.c:324 openbmc#15 0x00005555557bba46 in ordered_events__flush (oe=0x555556038e60, how=OE_FLUSH__ROUND) at util/ordered-events.c:342 openbmc#16 0x00005555557b1b3b in perf_event__process_finished_round (tool=0x7fffffffbce0, event=0x7ffff7c15bb8, oe=0x555556038e60) at util/session.c:780 openbmc#17 0x00005555557b3b27 in perf_session__process_user_event (session=0x5555560386d0, event=0x7ffff7c15bb8, file_offset=117688, file_path=0x555556038ff0 "perf.data") at util/session.c:1406 As you can see the entry->ms.map was NULL even if he->ms.map has a value. Disable strict aliasing, as has been done in the kernel proper for decades (literally since before git history) to fix issues where gcc will optimize away loads in code that looks 100% correct, but is _technically_ undefined behavior, and thus can be thrown away by the compiler. E.g. arm64's vPMU counter access test casts a uint64_t (unsigned long) pointer to a u64 (unsigned long long) pointer when setting PMCR.N via u64p_replace_bits(), which gcc-13 detects and optimizes away, i.e. ignores the result and uses the original PMCR. The issue is most easily observed by making set_pmcr_n() noinline and wrapping the call with printf(), e.g. sans comments, for this code: printf("orig = %lx, next = %lx, want = %lu\n", pmcr_orig, pmcr, pmcr_n); set_pmcr_n(&pmcr, pmcr_n); printf("orig = %lx, next = %lx, want = %lu\n", pmcr_orig, pmcr, pmcr_n); gcc-13 generates: 0000000000401c90 <set_pmcr_n>: 401c90: f9400002 ldr x2, [x0] 401c94: b3751022 bfi x2, x1, #11, #5 401c98: f9000002 str x2, [x0] 401c9c: d65f03c0 ret 0000000000402660 <test_create_vpmu_vm_with_pmcr_n>: 402724: aa1403e3 mov x3, x20 402728: aa1503e2 mov x2, x21 40272c: aa1603e0 mov x0, x22 402730: aa1503e1 mov x1, x21 402734: 940060ff bl 41ab30 <_IO_printf> 402738: aa1403e1 mov x1, x20 40273c: 910183e0 add x0, sp, #0x60 402740: 97fffd54 bl 401c90 <set_pmcr_n> 402744: aa1403e3 mov x3, x20 402748: aa1503e2 mov x2, x21 40274c: aa1503e1 mov x1, x21 402750: aa1603e0 mov x0, x22 402754: 940060f7 bl 41ab30 <_IO_printf> with the value stored in [sp + 0x60] ignored by both printf() above and in the test proper, resulting in a false failure due to vcpu_set_reg() simply storing the original value, not the intended value. $ ./vpmu_counter_access Random seed: 0x6b8b4567 orig = 3040, next = 3040, want = 0 orig = 3040, next = 3040, want = 0 ==== Test Assertion Failure ==== aarch64/vpmu_counter_access.c:505: pmcr_n == get_pmcr_n(pmcr) pid=71578 tid=71578 errno=9 - Bad file descriptor 1 0x400673: run_access_test at vpmu_counter_access.c:522 2 (inlined by) main at vpmu_counter_access.c:643 3 0x4132d7: __libc_start_call_main at libc-start.o:0 4 0x413653: __libc_start_main at ??:0 5 0x40106f: _start at ??:0 Failed to update PMCR.N to 0 (received: 6) Somewhat bizarrely, gcc-11 also exhibits the same behavior, but only if set_pmcr_n() is marked noinline, whereas gcc-13 fails even if set_pmcr_n() is inlined in its sole caller.
