This was needed at some point, but not anymore after the threads loading refactor

Same here, i've failed to identify the correct set of tests to write for this fix.

Wrapping this around a try/catch did not yield any errors. If anyone has more ideas, I'd be interested in hearing about them!

But what I know is that this piece of code is not needed anymore.

@matrix-org/element-web-app-team this makes a lot more sense as a fix, and am currently going through a lot of test setup to avoid a regression here.

I don't know whether i will manage to write the tests in time, but the fix is still worthy of being backported

A side-issue which should be addressed elsewhere, but this will reduce the order of events in the resultant timeline, which feels pretty counter-intuitive.
