Problem

The issue-sync-helper.sh grep patterns match task-like lines inside markdown code blocks. This creates phantom issues from format examples in TODO.md (e.g. - [ ] t001 Task description @owner).

Discovered in a managed project repo: format section had example tasks that collided with real task IDs, creating duplicate/wrong GitHub issues. Workaround applied there: renamed examples to tXXX/tYYY/tZZZ placeholders.

Fix

Added a shared strip_code_fences() function using awk to track fence state and skip lines inside fenced blocks. Applied to all 6 bulk-scan locations (not single-task lookups, which are safe since they search for specific task IDs).

Testing

Verified with test input showing the bug scenario (real task IDs in code fences):

  • Before fix: 3 open tasks returned (2 phantom from code fence + 1 real)
  • After fix: 1 open task returned (correct)

ShellCheck: zero violations. Bash syntax: OK. Smoke tests: pass.
