Mirrored tmux tabs follow window reorders made on the host - #22720
When something on the host reorders a session's windows with move-window or swap-window, the mirrored workspace's tabs keep the old order. A move-window also closes the moved window's tab and opens a new one at the end of the strip, so its terminal is rebuilt from scratch.
To reproduce, mirror a session work with three windows, then run one of these on the host:
tmux list-windows -t '=work' shows the new order and the tab bar doesn't.
There are three causes. I measured the notifications on tmux 3.7b, with a control client attached to the session and with one attached to a session that has the windows linked in.
tmux reports a move-window inside a session as %window-add, %session-window-changed and %window-close, all for the moved window. tmux sends %window-close only when the window is still in the client's session after the unlink. A window that left the session (killed, or unlinked from it) arrives as %unlinked-window-close. cmux treated both as a close. When a script moves every window of a session, the workspace runs out of tabs for a moment, cmux opens a local terminal to fill it, and the windows come back in the order they arrived.
swap-window sends no notification to any client, so nothing told cmux to read the window list again.
Once the strip held a tab that no tmux window owns (that local terminal, for example), the reorder stopped running at all, because it required the strip to match the window list one for one.
The fix:
%window-close now re-reads the window list and keeps the tab. The list says where the window is. %unlinked-window-close still closes the tab right away.
The window order now comes from a tmux format subscription. tmux re-evaluates it about once a second and reports it only when the value changes. The shared view stream's session digest now includes each session's window ids in index order. A stream attached to one session subscribes to its own window order, and re-reads the window list when the reported order differs from the one it has.
Tabs that no tmux window owns keep their positions, and the mirrored tabs are reordered around them.
A reorder no longer closes or recreates any tab or surface.
Testing
The focused command is xcodebuild test -scheme cmux-unit -only-testing:cmuxTests/RemoteTmuxTabOrderFollowsTmuxTests.
On the test commit (6068b43, main plus the new tests), it fails: Test run with 4 tests in 1 suite failed ... with 4 issues. The move test sees the moved window's tab replaced. The local-tab test sees the order stay [1, 2, 3] instead of [3, 2, 1]. Both swap tests get nothing from tmux after the swap.
On the fix commit, Test run with 4 tests in 1 suite passed.
I broke each part of the fix in turn: mapping %window-close back to a close, dropping the window ids from the view digest, skipping the per-session subscription, and ignoring tabs without a window. Each one fails exactly the test written for it, and the other three pass.
The two swap tests start a tmux server on its own socket, replay what a stream writes on attach into a real tmux -C client, swap two windows, and feed tmux's output back into the stream. They run only when a tmux binary is installed.
I also ran all 63 RemoteTmux* suites (586 tests) in six batches. Two existing fixtures expected the attach to queue only the window list, so RemoteTmuxAuthTests and RemoteTmuxPaneSeedTransportTests now account for the subscription after it. Five RemoteTmuxMirrorCloseDetachTests tests fail locally with the same nine issues on the test commit and on the fix commit. CI runs that suite in a console session of its own.
python3 scripts/verify-local.py passed 17 of 17, and python3 scripts/swift_file_length_budget.py passed.
Observed / Not run
Observed: the focused command red on 6068b43 and green on the fix commit, the four mutations above, the suite batches, and the raw tmux notifications listed in the summary, captured from tmux -C clients on an isolated server.
Main doesn't build cmux-cli right now (topLevelCommandNames is missing its (), fixed in #22523). I ran every local test with that one-character fix applied and not committed.
Not run: CI, and a live check against a real host in a built app (the reattach in my dev build stalled at login before tmux answered).

Summary by cubic
Mirrored tmux tabs now follow window reorders made on the host with move-window or swap-window. Previously tabs kept the old order, and a move closed the moved tab and rebuilt its terminal.
%window-close no longer closes the tab; it re-reads the window list, since a move inside a session sends %window-close while the window remains linked. Only %unlinked-window-close closes a tab.
swap-window sends no client notification, so the window order is tracked via a tmux format subscription; the list is re-read when the reported order differs.
Tabs no tmux window owns keep their positions, and mirrored tabs reorder around them.
Real-tmux tests run on an isolated server on its own socket, locate tmux on PATH, require the subscription baseline to arrive before the swap, and assert the reply queue drains.
Written for commit 03b52ce. Summary will update on new commits.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Mirrored tabs now follow window moves and swaps in tmux while preserving each tab’s identity.
Tabs not managed by tmux stay in place as tmux-managed tabs change order.
Window-order changes are reflected in both shared and directly attached views.
Windows unlinked elsewhere are distinguished from windows removed from the attached session, keeping mirrored window lists up to date.
Attached views refresh their window lists when the session’s window order changes.

Walkthrough
The change tracks tmux window ordering through shared-view and per-session control streams. Relevant order or unlink notifications cause window-list requests. The session mirror follows tmux order while keeping tabs without tmux windows in place.
The parser distinguishes window unlink notifications. Shared-view streams subscribe to the host-wide session digest, while per-session streams subscribe to their window-order digest. Relevant updates request a window list. Tests cover stream updates and initial command handling.
Apply order while preserving fixed tabs Sources/RemoteTmuxSessionMirror*.swift, Sources/Workspace+RemoteTmuxTabOrder.swift, cmuxTests/RemoteTmuxTabOrderFollowsTmuxTests.swift, cmux.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj
The mirror reorders tabs mapped to tmux windows and retains the positions of tabs without a tmux window. Tests cover panel identity, local tabs, and reordered windows.
Issue 8382: The issue describes remote tmux reordering as a GA contract. This change updates mirrored tab order after host-side window reorder changes.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title states the main behavior change: mirrored tmux tabs now follow window reorders made on the host. The changeset covers this. It re-reads the window list on %window-close, tracks window order through a format subscription, and reorders mirrored tabs around tabs that tmux does not own. The title does not name the mechanism, but it does not need to.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template. It has Summary, Testing, Changelog, Proof, and Checklist sections. The Summary gives the problem, the three causes, and the fix. Testing names the focused command, separates the red and green runs, lists mutation checks, and states what was not run. It also has the required Observed / Not run subsection for a bug fix. The Changelog has a user-facing line. Proof explains why there are no screenshots. Minor gaps: the checklist has only one item checked, and the template's other checklist lines (localization, socket allowlist, iOS soak, reviewed with subagent) are not addressed. These lines may not apply to this change, but the author did not mark them as not applicable. The description also contains bot-generated footer text.
Resolution
Optional: state which remaining checklist items do not apply (for example, localization and socket allowlist), and remove the bot-generated footer text if it is not wanted in the final description.
Full details: Cmux Cloud Persistent Session And Early Input
Explanation
PASS: The diff changes only RemoteTmux window-order subscriptions, parsing, tab reordering, and related tests. Order updates call requestWindows(), which uses the existing RemoteTmuxControlConnection.sendInternal carrier. The diff does not add Cloud terminal creation, cmux-tui clients, physical transports, manual renderer readiness gates, input routing, or auth/idempotency/revision/lease fences.
Full details: Cmux Swift Blocking Runtime
Explanation
The changed production files add tmux subscriptions, digest parsing, event handling, and deterministic tab reordering. The production diff adds no semaphore wait, sleep, delayed dispatch, polling loop, synchronous main-queue dispatch, or manual lock. The new lock, condition wait, timeout, and process wait occur only in cmuxTests/RemoteTmuxTabOrderFollowsTmuxTests.swift, which the rule explicitly allows as test-only scaffolding.
Full details: Cmux Browser Automation Off-Main
Explanation
The check is not applicable to this pull request. The authoritative diff changes only RemoteTmux sources, tmux tab-order tests, and the Xcode project. It does not change TerminalController.swift, ControlCommandExecutionPolicy.swift, or policy tests, and added lines contain no browser.* command, WebKit callback, screenshot, cookie-store, injected page hook, socketWorkerMethods, or processV2Command routing. The new @MainActor annotations are on tmux tests, not browser automation.
Full details: Cmux Expensive Synchronous Load
Explanation
PASS: The reviewed production diff only adds tmux window-order subscriptions, parser routing, and in-memory tab reordering. It adds no agent-history loader, transcript/trajectory/workstream JSONL parsing, directory scan, per-record syscall, or large JSON read on an interactive path. The only new reads are tmux window-list requests, and the added filesystem and FileHandle operations are confined to the new test file.
Full details: Cmux Cache Substitution Correctness
Explanation
The production diff does not replace a fresh read in a persistence, history, undo, or snapshot path. The new tmux order digest is an in-memory, event-driven topology hint: direct streams call requestWindows(), which issues authoritative list-windows, and shared streams notify topology reconciliation. The resulting windowOrder only drives transient mirrored-tab ordering. Therefore cold-cache and stale-cache failure modes do not apply.
Full details: Cmux No Hacky Sleeps
Explanation
PASS: The pull request changes only Swift source/tests and Xcode project registration. The sole non-Swift change adds a Swift test file to the project; it does not add runtime delays or polling. The runtime-no-hacky-sleeps rule applies to TypeScript, JavaScript, shell, and non-Swift build/runtime scripts.
Full details: Cmux Swift Concurrency
Explanation
No changed cmux-owned production code introduces the prohibited legacy async patterns. The production diff adds synchronous subscription and reorder handlers only; it adds no Dispatch queues, Combine state, completion-handler API, or unstructured Task. The new test uses NSCondition and readabilityHandler only for controlled test synchronization and an OS Process/pipe callback boundary, both explicitly allowed. @MainActor is used for the test harness.
Full details: Cmux Swift `@Concurrent`
Explanation
PASS. The diff adds no async functions and no @concurrent annotations. The new windowIds(inOrderDigest:) and expanded mirrorTabReorder are synchronous nonisolated helpers. The changed connection handlers and reorder paths are synchronous methods on existing @MainActor types. The added test isolation is @MainActor on synchronous test code. No custom-check violation is introduced.
Full details: Cmux Swiftpm Lockfiles
Explanation
The PR changes Swift source, tests, and cmux.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj. The project diff only adds RemoteTmuxTabOrderFollowsTmuxTests.swift as a file reference, group member, and test-target source. It does not change SwiftPM package references. No Package.swift, .gitignore, workflow, or Package.resolved file changes are present, so the lockfile requirements are not triggered.
Full details: Cmux Swift Logging
Explanation
Pass. The production diff adds only two calls to the existing RemoteTmux diagnostics buffer: record("window-order-changed") and record("window-unlinked-elsewhere @\(windowId\). It adds no print, debugPrint, dump, NSLog, ad hoc production file logging, or Logger declarations. The new FileHandle and process I/O are confined to the test harness, which the rule allows. The recorded window ID is not secret or personal data.
Full details: Cmux User-Facing Error Privacy
Explanation
The changed production code adds tmux subscription/parser logic and mirror ordering. Its only new diagnostic event is window-unlinked-elsewhere @<windowId>, stored in the existing bounded remote.tmux.state diagnostics ring; it does not include a vendor name, raw upstream message, session ID, credential, token, header, or payload. No changed user-facing error, alert, command output, API error body, or recovery copy exposes prohibited implementation details.
Full details: Cmux Full Internationalization
Explanation
PASS. The production diff changes tmux protocol handling, ordering logic, and developer comments only. It adds no user-facing Swift UI, menu, alert, tooltip, error, or command copy, and it changes no app catalogs, web messages, metadata, or locale files. The added string literals are tmux commands, subscription names, and internal debug/record labels. The new test file is covered by the allowed test exception.
Full details: Cmux Swiftui State Layout
Explanation
The pull request changes Remote tmux control, mirror ordering, project registration, and tests. The added Swift lines contain no SwiftUI imports, ObservableObject/@Published/@observable state, GeometryReader, lazy/list row stores, or render-time state writes. The SwiftUI state-layout rule is not applicable.
Full details: Cmux Architecture Rethink
Explanation
The diff does not introduce a prohibited architectural pattern. It uses tmux format subscriptions as the documented event-driven platform bridge, without sleeps, delayed dispatch, polling, or production locks. windowOrder remains the authoritative state, and requestWindows() remains the single coalesced reconciliation path. Tab preservation is a derived panelsWithoutWindow invariant passed through the existing reorder path. Synchronization in the new tests is test-only and allowed.
Full details: Cmux Swift Auxiliary Window Close Shortcuts
Explanation
PASS: The PR changes tmux control, session mirroring, tab ordering, and test fixtures only. The diff adds no standalone NSWindow, NSPanel, NSWindowController, SwiftUI Window, or WindowGroup code, and adds no auxiliary-window identifier or close-shortcut ownership. The check is therefore not applicable.
Full details: Cmux Source Artifacts
Explanation
The diff contains only hand-written Swift source, test source, and the Xcode project file. The new test is an intentional test-system artifact and does not add logs, screenshots, caches, build output, temp directories, or other generated files. No changed path matches the prohibited artifact patterns.
Full details: Cmux No Test Or Debug Seam In Production Source
Explanation
PASS: The PR adds no test/debug seam in production Sources/ Swift. The changed members implement tmux window-order subscriptions, notification handling, and tab reordering. No added #if DEBUG accessor, test-named member, or visibility widening with a wrapper appears in the production diff. The #if DEBUG logging shown in context is existing product diagnostic logging, and test scaffolding is confined to cmuxTests/.
Full details: Cmux Swift Actor Isolation
Explanation
The prior isolation finding remains unresolved. RemoteTmuxControlConnection is @MainActor at Sources/RemoteTmuxControlConnection.swift:65. The PR adds the pure subscription helpers windowOrderSubscriptionName and windowOrderSubscriptionCommand at Sources/RemoteTmuxControlConnection+PaneSubscriptions.swift:64-68 without nonisolated. They therefore inherit unnecessary MainActor isolation under Swift 6.
Resolution
Mark windowOrderSubscriptionName and windowOrderSubscriptionCommand as nonisolated, or move them to a nonisolated helper namespace or file.
Full details: Cmux Algorithmic Complexity
Explanation
The complexity issue remains. Sources/RemoteTmuxSessionMirror+Helpers.swift:18-20 constructs Set(workspace.panels.keys) and subtracts windowIdByPanel.keys on each eligible rebuildTopology call at Sources/RemoteTmuxSessionMirror.swift:367-446. This scans the scalable workspace-panel collection and ownership map in O(P+W) without a cached snapshot or size bound. The new order-digest and unlink handlers request window lists, so host reorder events reach this path. The path must support about 1000 workspace panels.
Resolution
Cache the set of panels without tmux ownership and update it when workspace panels or mirror ownership changes. Alternatively, derive fixed tabs from an incrementally maintained tab list and ownership index. Add a benchmark if a repeated full scan remains necessary.
Full details: Cmux Swift Package Boundaries
Explanation
The boundary failure remains. The diff expands independent tmux protocol and domain logic in the app target: RemoteTmuxControlStreamParser classifies %window-close at lines 268-275; RemoteTmuxControlMessage adds windowUnlinkedElsewhere; RemoteTmuxControlConnection+PaneSubscriptions parses window-order digests and drives refetches at lines 61-106; and RemoteTmuxSessionMirror+Helpers implements pure fixed-tab permutation logic at lines 23-47. These parts use Foundation and value collections without AppKit, SwiftUI, Ghostty, or lifecycle state. The new tests import cmux/cmux_DEV from cmuxTests, so they do not provide package-level isolation. The authoritative diff changes no Package.swift or package source. CmuxRemoteSession is existing transport/session infrastructure and does not isolate this tmux order protocol or reorder policy.
Resolution
Create a small SwiftPM target named CmuxRemoteTmux under the existing package layout and wire it into the app target. Expose a public RemoteTmuxWindowOrder value API for ordered window-ID digest parsing and comparison. Move the related tmux control-message parsing and fixed-tab reorder policy behind that package API. Add package-level unit tests for the parser, window-order digest, and reorder policy. Keep RemoteTmuxControlConnection transport wiring and Workspace/RemoteTmuxSessionMirror AppKit composition in the app target.

A changed %subscription-changed digest reaches handleWindowOrderDigest(_:), which calls requestWindows(). If that list-windows request returns an error, the ordinary .listWindows branch completes without retry or reconnect. The same reorder does not require another notification, so windowOrder and the mirrored tab order can remain stale until a later event or reconnect.
Preserve the order-refresh reason through request coalescing. Retry the refresh once, then reconnect if the retry fails, using the existing bounded recovery behavior.

notificationsAfterSwap captures the attach commands and returns only post-swap subscription lines. The shared test feeds those lines to a fresh AttachedStream; it does not drain the attach commands, answer a list-windows request, or inspect windowOrder. Since the shared subscription handler only notifies observers, a regression that preserves the notification but omits the refresh can pass.
Use the view-level topology observer in this fixture, record the pending .listWindows count before feed, and assert that the count increases afterward. Answer that request with the swapped windows and assert windowOrder if the test must cover applied synchronization.

If a regression re-queued a window list after each completion, the helper would stop at the cap with commands still queued, and those assertions would still pass. In moveWindowKeepsTheTabAndTakesTheNewPlace and aTabTmuxDoesNotOwnDoesNotFreezeTheOrder, wrap the helper call in #expect(...) so the drain result fails the test. Do not add this check after feed in swapWindowReachesASessionStream. That test expects a window list to remain queued after its feed.

… the host
Three cases fail today. A move-window inside a session closes the moved
window's tab and builds a new one at the end of the strip. A tab that no
tmux window owns stops the other tabs from following tmux at all. And a
swap-window is never reported to the stream, which these tests check
against a real tmux server on its own socket.
…windows
tmux reports a move-window inside a session as %window-add and
%window-close for the moved window. It sends %window-close only when the
window is still in the client's session after the unlink; a window that
left it arrives as %unlinked-window-close. Treating both as a close tore
the tab down and rebuilt it at the end of the strip. %window-close now
re-reads the window list and keeps the tab.
swap-window sends no notification to any client. The shared view
stream's session digest now carries each session's window ids in index
order, and a stream attached to one session subscribes to its own window
order and re-reads the window list when it differs.
A tab no tmux window owns no longer stops the reorder: it keeps its
place and the mirrored tabs are reordered around it.
Rebased onto current main (0ad82b8) with no conflicts, and added two small commits on top of EJ's three.
CodeRabbit findings:
Baseline subscription wait (inline thread): EJ already fixed this. The thread is resolved.
IsolatedTmuxServer.binary only checked fixed paths: fixed in a73f8b1. It now checks the fixed locations plus /opt/local/bin/tmux, then every PATH entry.
answerPendingCommands could stop at the cap and pass anyway: fixed in a73f8b1. It now returns whether the queue drained. moveWindowKeepsTheTabAndTakesTheNewPlace and aTabTmuxDoesNotOwnDoesNotFreezeTheOrder assert that result. The session-stream swap test is left out, because it expects a queued window list.
"Recover a failed order refresh" (outside diff): no change. A list-windows error on this path is handled exactly like every other list-windows error, such as %window-add or %layout-change reconciles, and none of those retry. If the reply errors, the published order is unchanged. The next %subscription-changed, any window event, or a reconnect re-reads the list. tmux keeps the subscription value it last sent, so a later reorder still differs and fires. A retry-then-reconnect path only for this trigger would be new recovery policy outside this PR's scope.
"Assert the shared-view refresh, not only the notification" (outside diff): no change. On the shared view stream, %subscription-changed cmux_sessions only calls notifyTopologyChanged(). The view coordinator's reconcile (list-sessions plus list-windows -a) is the refresh, and it lives in RemoteTmuxViewConnection, not in RemoteTmuxControlConnection. So the notification is the contract this layer owns, and that is what the test asserts. The per-session test does assert the queued list-windows.
Correctness review (fresh subagent, final diff): no blocking findings.
Checked tmux semantics: %window-close is sent only when the window is still in the client's session. kill-window, pane exit, cross-session move and unlink all still arrive as %unlinked-window-close, so tab close is unaffected.
Checked reply ordering: the new refresh-client -B reply has its own .other FIFO slot after list-windows, and the positional fixtures were updated.
Checked reconnect: the stream subscribes again because sessionDigestSubscribed is cleared on teardown.
The unsubscribe name can't mismatch, because isSharedViewStream is set once at creation.
No reconcile loop: the digest omits names and gives the view session an empty entry.
The fixed-tab reorder algorithm is correct.
Minor items addressed in 0c87623: a parser test now pins %window-close to .windowUnlinkedElsewhere and %unlinked-window-close to .windowClose. Two comments that named %window-close as the removal signal (RemoteTmuxController.swift, Workspace.swift) were fixed.
Accepted minor items:
The shared view does one extra, coalesced reconcile per window change.
An order push during a local drag batch triggers one list-windows. That is safe, because the reply honours the reorder generation.
The two real-tmux swap tests skip on CI Macs that have no tmux binary, so the swap coverage in CI may come only from the protocol-level tests.
CI red on 0c87623 was this PR's own.RemoteTmuxSubscriptionCommandTests.sessionDigestSubscribesOnTheAttachedSessionNotAPane pinned the old cmux_sessions format. The format change is intended, so a94f260 updates the pin to the new digest, which now carries window ids.
CI: 63 of 63 checks pass on a94f260. In app-host unit tests, RemoteTmuxTabOrderFollowsTmuxTests passed windowCloseFormsParseToDifferentMessages, moveWindowKeepsTheTabAndTakesTheNewPlace and aTabTmuxDoesNotOwnDoesNotFreezeTheOrder. The two real-tmux swap tests were skipped on the CI Mac, which has no tmux binary.
Real tmux 3.7c check, isolated socket, on the exact subscription command this PR sends:
Resolves the cmux.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj conflict GitHub reports
(union of added entries, then normalize-pbxproj.py).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Why this push: GitHub reported this PR as conflicting only because of cmux.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj, whose merge driver GitHub doesn't run. scripts/merge-main.sh merged main c9ed9bd7078e (green guards) into the branch. The PR's diff against main is unchanged: the same 14 files. The pbxproj passes plutil -lint, and RemoteTmuxTabOrderFollowsTmuxTests.swift is in the cmuxTests target exactly once.
Correctness re-review (fresh subagent, plus my own check of the merged diff): PASS, no blocking findings.
Main's 31 commits since 0ad82b815901 were checked for interaction with this change. Only #32585 touches Workspace.swift or the pbxproj, and it doesn't overlap remote tmux.
The window-close parser split was re-checked against real tmux 3.7c control-mode output on a throwaway socket, for kill-window, move-window, link/unlink, cross-session moves and swap-window.
Findings:
should-fix, follow-up. In multiplexed workspaces (remoteTmux.multiplexer.beta.enabled), the session digest now includes window ids, so every local tab drag causes a reconcile.
applyWindowReorder / updateWindowIds don't reject a reconcile that is older than the latest local reorder. If you drag again while that listing is in flight, the tabs can jump back until the next digest push.
The race existed before on rarer triggers. It is beta-only and corrects itself, so it doesn't block this PR.
Found by reading the code; not reproduced.
nit. The two real-tmux swap tests skip on CI runners that have no tmux. Their behavior was checked by hand against tmux 3.7c.
nit. The doc comment on .windowUnlinkedElsewhere cites tmux 3.7b. The behavior was reproduced on 3.7c; tmux 3.2 is unverified.
Merging once CI on this head has no reds of its own.

Summary
When something on the host reorders a session's windows with
move-windoworswap-window, the mirrored workspace's tabs keep the old order. Amove-windowalso closes the moved window's tab and opens a new one at the end of the strip, so its terminal is rebuilt from scratch. To reproduce, mirror a session
workwith three windows, then run one of these on the host:tmux list-windows -t '=work'shows the new order and the tab bar doesn't.There are three causes. I measured the notifications on tmux 3.7b, with a control client attached to the session and with one attached to a session that has the windows linked in.
move-windowinside a session as%window-add,%session-window-changedand%window-close, all for the moved window. tmux sends%window-closeonly when the window is still in the client's session after the unlink. A window that left the session (killed, or unlinked from it) arrives as%unlinked-window-close. cmux treated both as a close. When a script moves every window of a session, the workspace runs out of tabs for a moment, cmux opens a local terminal to fill it, and the windows come back in the order they arrived.swap-windowsends no notification to any client, so nothing told cmux to read the window list again. The fix:
%window-closenow re-reads the window list and keeps the tab. The list says where the window is.%unlinked-window-closestill closes the tab right away.A reorder no longer closes or recreates any tab or surface.
Testing
The focused command is
xcodebuild test -scheme cmux-unit -only-testing:cmuxTests/RemoteTmuxTabOrderFollowsTmuxTests.Test run with 4 tests in 1 suite failed ... with 4 issues. The move test sees the moved window's tab replaced. The local-tab test sees the order stay[1, 2, 3]instead of[3, 2, 1]. Both swap tests get nothing from tmux after the swap.Test run with 4 tests in 1 suite passed.%window-closeback to a close, dropping the window ids from the view digest, skipping the per-session subscription, and ignoring tabs without a window. Each one fails exactly the test written for it, and the other three pass. The two swap tests start a tmux server on its own socket, replay what a stream writes on attach into a real
tmux -Cclient, swap two windows, and feed tmux's output back into the stream. They run only when a tmux binary is installed.I also ran all 63
RemoteTmux*suites (586 tests) in six batches. Two existing fixtures expected the attach to queue only the window list, soRemoteTmuxAuthTestsandRemoteTmuxPaneSeedTransportTestsnow account for the subscription after it. FiveRemoteTmuxMirrorCloseDetachTeststests fail locally with the same nine issues on the test commit and on the fix commit. CI runs that suite in a console session of its own.python3 scripts/verify-local.pypassed 17 of 17, andpython3 scripts/swift_file_length_budget.pypassed.Observed / Not run
Observed: the focused command red on 6068b43 and green on the fix commit, the four mutations above, the suite batches, and the raw tmux notifications listed in the summary, captured from
tmux -Cclients on an isolated server.Main doesn't build
cmux-cliright now (topLevelCommandNamesis missing its(), fixed in #22523). I ran every local test with that one-character fix applied and not committed. Not run: CI, and a live check against a real host in a built app (the reattach in my dev build stalled at login before tmux answered).
Changelog
Fixed: Mirrored tmux tabs follow window reorders made on the host with move-window or swap-window, and a move no longer rebuilds the moved tab
Proof
Protocol-level and real-tmux tests only; no screenshots, because the live reattach didn't complete.
