Fixes the process identity fallback that read mutable /proc//cmdline to infer an agent script. The fallback now accepts only the kernel-resolved executable path and fails closed for wrapped interpreters.

Adds a behavior regression for an interpreter-wrapped process.

Summary by cubic

Stops trusting mutable /proc/<pid>/cmdline for agent identity, so a process can no longer fake one; screen detection now uses only the kernel-resolved executable path, and interpreter-wrapped agents are not detected. This also makes the agents sidebar show live agent state.

Agent roster

  • Agent records derive from agent.* journal commits via a durable reducer; direct reports append an echo event, and restarts restore a snapshot and fold only the journal tail.
  • A session-owned scanner ports herdr's detection engine with 21 vendored Apache-2.0 manifests, evaluating PTY output after quiescence (and at 1Hz for never-quiet spinners), retrying reads at their deadline, and emitting edge-triggered transitions.
  • Events carry the adapter id (claude, codex, ...) through the roster to views.
  • Hook events beat screen-derived state, socket reports lose to both, and screen exits remove only screen-established entries; hook projection failures retry durably with bounded caps.
  • Agents views sort by attention (blocked > working > idle), then recency.

Also in this merge

  • The mux codec caps packet-declared part counts before allocating; relay accept failures back off with bounded retries.
  • 429 responses now carry the enforcement source (ingress_ip, account_budget, device_budget, auth_provider); local cooldown waits are prefixed cooldown:.
  • iOS discovery and pairing use the active irx runtime and preserve legacy Mac access across the v2 upgrade.
  • CI locks the Rust build to Cargo.lock, drops a duplicate npm install, and honors a pre-resolved Python command.
  • agent.report failures no longer expose internal registry details.

Written for commit 7e07af7. Summary will update on new commits.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 5356c

The PR stops trusting mutable interpreter arguments and adds durable live agent detection, but current behavior can still leave agent status stale, omit adapter identity after restoration, retain exited entries, misclassify idle sessions, and impose excessive scan work. These concrete correctness and consistency risks should be fixed or explicitly accepted before merge.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 49.67% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 151 functions across 14 files. (26 skipped: 24 unsupported, 2 too large.)

Full details: Cmux Swift Actor Isolation

Explanation

PASS: The pull request introduces no production Swift changes. The full diff from merge base 8581626 contains Rust, TOML, Markdown, and lockfile changes only, with no .swift paths. Therefore it cannot introduce or worsen the listed Swift 6 actor-isolation issues.

Full details: Cmux Swift Blocking Runtime

Explanation

PASS: The complete PR diff from the merge base to HEAD changes no .swift files. The changed files are Rust, TOML, Markdown, and Cargo metadata, so the Swift blocking-runtime failure conditions do not apply.

Full details: Cmux Browser Automation Off-Main

Explanation

PASS: The pull request does not change browser socket automation. The diff from origin/main to HEAD changes only cmux-tui Rust files and vendored manifests; neither policy target file changed. The changed diff contains no browser.*, WebKit wait, callback, or socket-worker routing symbols. The custom check is therefore not applicable.

Full details: Cmux Expensive Synchronous Load

Explanation

PASS: The pull request does not change production Swift code. The complete diff from merge base 8581626045 contains only Rust, TOML, Markdown, lockfile, and one extensionless path; git diff ... -- '*.swift' returns no files. Therefore it cannot introduce an expensive synchronous Swift agent-history load on a main actor or interactive path.

Full details: Cmux Cache Substitution Correctness

Explanation

PASS: The full PR diff contains Rust source, Cargo files, Markdown, and TOML manifests only. It contains no production Swift, TypeScript, or JavaScript changes, so the cache-substitution correctness condition is not applicable. The Rust journal and projection changes do not fall within this check's stated scope.

Full details: Cmux No Hacky Sleeps

Explanation

PASS. The complete diff from origin/main contains only Rust, TOML, Cargo.lock, and Markdown files; it contains no TypeScript, JavaScript, shell, or covered build/runtime script changes. The reviewed runtime change is in platform.rs, which is Rust and therefore outside this check's scope.

Full details: Cmux Algorithmic Complexity

Explanation

The pull request adds an unbounded sort to the production sidebar render path. cmux-tui/crates/cmux-tui/src/sidebar_projection.rs:294 sorts agent_entries with sort_by_key, which is O(A log A) for A agent tabs. ui::sidebar::draw_projection calls App::projection_rows during each frame, so the sort repeats on every draw. Agent rows have no explicit size bound, cache, or benchmark. The collection can reach about 1000 user-owned terminal or agent records. The screen scanner uses a linear terminal pass with bounded process lookups, so it does not create this failure.

Resolution

Move agent ordering out of sidebar_projection::append_level's render-time path. Maintain a cached ordered agent snapshot or an ordered index keyed by attention and recency, and invalidate it only when the agent or relevant tree snapshot changes. Make projection_rows consume that cached order. Alternatively, add an explicit small input bound and attach a benchmark that proves the O(A log A) sort meets the render budget.

Full details: Cmux Swift Concurrency

Explanation

PASS: The pull-request diff contains no Swift, Objective-C, or Swift interface files. The changed files are Rust, TOML, Cargo, and documentation files. Therefore, the diff does not introduce or materially expand any Swift concurrency pattern covered by the rule.

Full details: Cmux Swift `@Concurrent`

Explanation

PASS: The pull request diff from merge-base 8581626 to 5356cc1 contains no .swift paths. The changed files are Rust, TOML, Markdown, a license, and Cargo metadata. Therefore the Swift @concurrent check is not applicable.

Full details: Cmux Swift Package Boundaries

Explanation

PASS: The PR diff contains no Swift, SwiftPM, Xcode project, or Objective-C project changes. It changes only Rust, TOML, Markdown, and Cargo lock/manifest files, so the Swift package-boundary rule does not apply.

Full details: Cmux Swiftpm Lockfiles

Explanation

PASS: The PR diff from merge base 8581626045 to 5356cc11e9 contains no Package.swift, Package.resolved, Xcode project, workflow, or .gitignore changes. The dependency change is Rust-only (cmux-tui/crates/cmux-tui-core/Cargo.toml with cmux-tui/Cargo.lock). No tracked package .gitignore contains Package.resolved, and no SwiftPM resolution change requires review.

Full details: Cmux Swift Logging

Explanation

PASS: The PR changes Rust, TOML, Markdown, and lock files only. The complete diff from origin/main contains no .swift paths and no added Swift logging statements. The Swift logging check is therefore not applicable.

Full details: Cmux User-Facing Error Privacy

Explanation

The new commit_agent_report path calls public_agent_projection_for_terminal, which can return decode_agent_projection errors containing terminal IDs, database projection details, committed revisions, agent IDs, and session IDs. ResourceOperation::AgentReport maps that error through resource_operation_error into ResourceError::operation_failed, placing the raw string in the API error message and response details. This is a changed path to an API error body and violates the rule's prohibition on database details and session IDs.

Resolution

Sanitize projection-read and projection-decode failures before they reach the API error envelope. Map them to a stable generic product message such as could not read agent state, with empty or minimal safe details. Keep the raw error only in sanitized internal logs. Add a regression test that corrupts an agent projection, invokes agent.report, and verifies that the response contains no terminal ID, agent ID, session ID, revision, projection, or database details.

Full details: Cmux Full Internationalization

Explanation

PASS. The PR changes only Rust TUI/core code, TOML detection manifests, a README, a license, and Cargo metadata. The diff contains no Swift files, string catalogs, web files, locale files, changelog, or metadata locale additions. Agent state text rendered by the sidebar already reads from the existing localization catalog, and this PR adds no new rendered copy. Adapter IDs and journal/event names are protocol or configuration tokens. The added scanner diagnostic is an operational log, and manifest strings are detection configuration. No explicit internationalization failure condition is introduced.

Full details: Cmux Swiftui State Layout

Explanation

PASS: The PR diff from merge-base 8581626 to HEAD contains only Rust, TOML, Markdown, and lockfile changes. It contains no .swift paths and no added SwiftUI state or layout tokens. The SwiftUI state-layout check is therefore not applicable.

Full details: Cmux Architecture Rethink

Explanation

PASS: The custom check applies only to Swift architecture changes. The PR diff from origin/main to HEAD changes 42 paths, all under cmux-tui and vendor/herdr-manifests; the Swift-path diff is empty. The changed implementation is Rust, so the stated Swift architectural failure conditions are not applicable.

Full details: Cmux Swift Auxiliary Window Close Shortcuts

Explanation

PASS — The check is not applicable. The PR diff from origin/main to HEAD contains no .swift files; the final commit changes only cmux-tui/crates/cmux-tui-core/src/platform.rs. Therefore, it introduces no Swift window code or close-shortcut ownership change.

Full details: Cmux Source Artifacts

Explanation

PASS. The diff adds only Rust source, TOML configuration/manifests, a license, a README, and Cargo dependency metadata. The 21 files under cmux-tui/vendor/herdr-manifests/ are intentional product inputs: the new screen-detection code embeds them with include_str!, and the README records the upstream pin and vendoring process. No temp, cache, log, screenshot, recording, build-output, or broad scratch directory appears in the changed paths. Cargo.lock changes only to record the new required toml dependency.

Full details: Cmux No Test Or Debug Seam In Production Source

Explanation

PASS: The pull request changes only Rust/TOML/manifest files. The aggregate diff from the first feature commit through HEAD contains no .swift files, and no production **/Sources/** Swift path changed. Therefore the Swift production seam check is not applicable.

Full details: Cmux No Ambient Global State

Explanation

PASS: The check applies only to production Swift changes. The PR diff from origin/main contains no .swift paths and no Swift declarations. The changed files are Rust, TOML, Markdown, and Cargo metadata, so this PR does not introduce ambient global state under the stated rule.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description explains the process identity fix and mentions regression coverage, but it does not follow the required template. It lacks explicit Summary and Testing sections, test details, a Demo Video entry, the review trigger, and the checklist.

Resolution

Rewrite the description using the repository template. Add explicit Summary and Why details, document the tests and manual verification, include a Demo Video entry or state that none is needed, add the review trigger block, and complete the checklist.

Handle exits after a stale Hook reclaims screen detection

When ScreenDetectTracker has emitted a state and a Hook event later reclaims the terminal, ProcessNameResolution::Exited emits Done and consumes the tracker emission. If the Hook is stale, AgentRoster::apply rejects that removal because existing_source != AgentSource::Detected. No later screen Done event is emitted, so the roster entry remains until retire_terminal. Add an explicit stale-Hook exit path.

Remove the unused Linux interpreter-recovery helpers. In cmux-tui/crates/cmux-tui-core/src/platform.rs, interpreter_script_path has no production caller, and is_known_script_interpreter is used only by that helper and its test. process_name reads only /proc/{pid}/exe, so the helper documentation describes behavior that is not implemented. The /sh suffix assertion fails where /bin/sh is not a binary named sh.

process_name reads /proc/<pid>/exe, which the kernel resolves to the real executable inode, not to the symlink the caller named. On Debian and Ubuntu, /bin/sh is a symlink to dash, so the link resolves to /usr/bin/dash. On Alpine it resolves to /bin/busybox. On Fedora it resolves to /usr/bin/bash.

In each of those environments path.ends_with("/sh") is false and the test fails. Ubuntu-based CI images use dash, so this is the common case, not an edge case.

The assertion at line 1201 is the one that proves the property this change adds: the script path is not trusted. Keep it and drop the over-specified suffix check, or assert the interpreter identity in a way that holds across distributions.

Consider compiling each regex once instead of twice.

validate_regex_patterns compiles every regex and line_regex pattern with Regex::new only to discard the result. compile_gate at lines 754-771 then compiles the same patterns again. Regex compilation is the dominant cost of manifest loading, so every pattern pays it twice.

The stronger concern is divergence: validity is now decided in two independent places, and both produce different error strings for the same invalid pattern. If one path gains a new check, such as a size limit through RegexBuilder, the other silently keeps the old behavior.

One option is to compile in compile_gate only and let compile_manifest_source surface the compile error, since compile_manifest already runs after validate_manifest and returns Result. The validation pass then keeps the structural limits it uniquely enforces.

Apply the ended-hook filter before socket arbitration.

When source == AgentSource::Socket, commit_agent_report accepts the raw projection and does not reject source_session values starting with cmux-hook-ended:. It copies that marker into the persisted value, while list and snapshot APIs remove the projection. A socket report can therefore retain an ended hook projection and produce inconsistent results. Reuse the filtering helper before arbitration.

Surface malformed reducer state instead of silently resetting the cursor.

cursor defaults to 0 on any parse failure (missing field, non-numeric string), and version defaults to 0 when absent. Both paths reuse the "version mismatch: re-fold from head" recovery silently, with no diagnostic.

put_journal_reducer_state always writes a well-formed object, so this only matters if the persisted state is corrupted or edited externally. In that case, the reducer performs a full silent re-fold instead of surfacing an error the operator could investigate.

Return an error for a missing or unparseable cursor/version, matching the with_context style already used for the outer JSON parse.

Do not classify every nonempty Cline screen as working.

Line 26 matches every nonempty whole_recent screen. A completed Cline terminal retains transcript text, so this fallback reports working while Cline is idle. Add explicit current-screen working and idle indicators. Do not use arbitrary retained output as a working signal.

Give idle OSC progress precedence over the generic title rule.

A custom non-empty title and idle progress 4;0;0 match both rules. osc_title_working has priority 1000, so it reports working instead of idle. Raise osc_progress_idle above the generic title rule, or exclude idle progress from osc_title_working.

As per coding guidelines, “Do not add an unreliable fallback, guess, default, or ‘best effort’ branch when an incorrect value would be a correctness bug.”

P3: The test calls process_name(child.id()) immediately after spawn without waiting for the child to exec /bin/sh. In the fork-to-exec window, /proc//exe resolves to the parent's test binary, causing an intermittent assertion failure.

Exercise the shared local image transfer path for both image drops and Cmd+V paste. The materialized file must remain available after the path is sent so Claude Code and Codex can read it asynchronously.
Do not delete cmux-owned image files when the local terminal path is delivered. Claude Code and Codex read that path asynchronously after sendText returns; retain the file for the existing process-lifetime cleanup instead.

Restoring `@discardableResult` on its own line took the file to 515 lines

Changelog and changelog-media entries cover the stable fixes since v0.64.24.
The 11 mobile.whatsNew.pairing.* keys added by #12316 shipped English-only in
both iOS catalogs; translate them into de, fr, ar, es, zh-Hant, zh-Hans, ko,
and ja with scripts/localization_catalog.py merge.

Build 106, not 105: the rc feed already serves com.cmuxterm.app 0.64.25 (105)
built from rc/v0.64.25, and bump-version.sh only checks the stable appcast
(104). Reusing 105 from a different source tree would give Sparkle two
binaries with one build number.

fix: make tmux-compat polling backpressure deterministic
Show one compact Cloud terminal error inside its owning pane, with a square 1 px border, no shadow, Retry, and contextual Copy Error. Preserve safe failure categories and operation traces, and clean up every classified cancellation consistently.

Verified the default card in a tagged app, all 22 focused Cloud tests, and the cancellation regression before and after the fix.

Mac fleet instructions for head 7e07af7afeac3038fb7be9e17a790f323cf3fc7c. Planned tag: pr-11165-7e07af7a; this is not yet a published build.

JOB_JSON=$(~/.local/bin/cmux-ci submit --kind cmux --command 'CMUX_FLEET_BUILD_TAG=pr-11165-7e07af7a /Users/Shared/cmux-build-fleet/recipes/cmux.sh https://github.com/manaflow-ai/cmux.git 7e07af7afeac3038fb7be9e17a790f323cf3fc7c' --artifact artifacts/cmux.app.zip --workspace https://github.com/manaflow-ai/cmux/pull/11165 --source-digest 7e07af7afeac3038fb7be9e17a790f323cf3fc7c --cache-key cmux:pr-11165 --min-free-bytes 268435456000 --label cmux --label ram48)

~/.local/bin/cmux-ci wait "$JOB_ID" --receipt artifacts/fleet/$JOB_ID.json
~/.local/bin/cmux-ci publish-hq "$JOB_ID"

Use an existing campaign job ID if one is already posted; do not submit a duplicate. A wait timeout leaves the remote job running. Published results will include an exact-head artifact link and timing/disk receipt. This recipe validates the macOS app only, not iOS or tests. Never use maclease or put credentials in a PR comment.
