Support lynx environment variant lynx- to build different lynx outputs with different lynx environment configs.

import { defineConfig } from '@lynx-js/rspeedy';

export default defineConfig({
  environment: {
    lynx: {
      output: {
        distPath: { root: 'dist/default' },
      },
    },
    'lynx-foo': {
      output: {
        distPath: { root: 'dist/foo' },
        minify: false,
      },
    },
  },
});

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

This PR broadens environment detection to accept both exact names and prefixed variants (e.g., "lynx-foo", "web-foo"), updates the React plugin entry to use the extended checks, adds tests for variant environments, and adds a patch-level changeset documenting the change.

Changes

Cohort / File(s) Summary
Changeset metadata
/.changeset/blue-bats-tease.md
Adds a patch-level changeset entry for @lynx-js/rspeedy and @lynx-js/react-rsbuild-plugin describing support for environment variants.
Environment detection utilities
packages/rspeedy/core/src/utils/is-lynx.ts, packages/rspeedy/core/src/utils/is-web.ts
Normalize input to an environmentName and accept exact matches ('lynx', 'web') or prefix matches ('lynx-'*, 'web-'*) for environment classification.
Plugin entrypoint
packages/rspeedy/plugin-react/src/entry.ts
Extend environment.name checks to treat names starting with lynx- as Lynx and web- as Web (in addition to exact 'lynx'/'web').
Tests
packages/rspeedy/plugin-react/test/config.test.ts
Update imports to include Rspack; add environment test suite covering lynx, lynx-foo, web, and web-foo to validate config counts, environment names, and emitted entry filenames.

Estimated code review effort

  • Areas needing attention:
    • Test additions in config.test.ts — ensure assertions cover both base and prefixed variants and there is no unintended duplication.
    • Consistency of prefix-matching logic across is-lynx.ts, is-web.ts, and entry.ts.
    • Verify no edge cases when environment is an object vs string (null/undefined handling).

61-65: isLynx predicate correctly extended to cover variants

Using environment.name === 'lynx' || environment.name.startsWith('lynx:') ensures all lynx: variants take the same code path as the base Lynx environment (intermediate paths, plugins, encoding), which aligns with the new variant semantics. If the dependency direction allows it, consider delegating to the shared isLynx utility to keep the environment-matching logic centralized.

7-11: Variant-aware isLynx normalization looks correct

Normalizing environment to environmentName and checking for both exact 'lynx' and the 'lynx:' prefix cleanly supports all Lynx variants while preserving the original behavior for the base environment. No issues from my side.

.changeset/blue-bats-tease.md (1)

1-28: Changeset metadata and description are appropriate

Patch bumps for @lynx-js/react-rsbuild-plugin and @lynx-js/rspeedy with scoped package names and a clear example of lynx / lynx:<variant> environment keys align with the repo’s changeset and pre-1.0 versioning conventions. Nothing to change here.

Learning: In the lynx-family/lynx-stack repository, the `packages/react/testing-library` package does not have `vite` as a direct dependency. It relies on `vitest` being available from the monorepo root and accesses Vite types through re-exports from `vitest/node`. Direct imports from `vite` should not be suggested for this package.

packages/rspeedy/core/src/utils/is-lynx.ts (1)

7-12: LGTM! Clean implementation of Lynx variant detection.

The unified logic correctly handles both the base lynx environment and lynx: prefixed variants. The implementation is straightforward and aligns with the PR objectives.

.changeset/blue-bats-tease.md (1)

1-28: LGTM! Changeset properly documents the feature.

The changeset correctly identifies both affected packages with patch bumps, provides a clear description, and includes a helpful example demonstrating the new Lynx variant support.

packages/rspeedy/plugin-react/test/config.test.ts (2)

7-7: LGTM! Rspack type import is properly used.

The import is necessary for the Rspack.EntryDescription type used in the test assertion at line 2400.

2358-2403: LGTM! Test cases properly validate Lynx variant support.

The tests correctly verify:

  • Single lynx environment generates one config
  • Multiple environments (lynx and lynx:foo) generate separate configs
  • Variant environments still emit output to the .rspeedy directory

The test logic aligns well with the PR objectives.

8-11: Logic correctly handles lynx variants; consider extracting the prefix constant.

The unified environmentName handling and 'lynx' / 'lynx:' checks look correct and match the new variant semantics. To avoid scattering the 'lynx:' magic string (and keep other modules in sync), you could extract it to a constant and reference that here:

-export function isLynx(environment: EnvironmentContext | string): boolean {
- const environmentName = typeof environment === 'string'
-    ? environment
-    : environment.name
-  return environmentName === 'lynx' || environmentName.startsWith('lynx:')
-}
+const LYNX_ENV_PREFIX = 'lynx:'

+export function isLynx(environment: EnvironmentContext | string): boolean {
+ const environmentName = typeof environment === 'string'
+    ? environment
+    : environment.name

63-66: Variant env detection matches intent; consider centralizing helper (optional).

Treating lynx:* and web:* as their base environments here is consistent with the rest of the PR and matches how variants are meant to behave. To avoid future drift with the core is-lynx / is-web utilities, you might consider delegating to those helpers instead of duplicating the string checks, if dependency boundaries allow it.

packages/rspeedy/core/src/utils/is-web.ts (1)

7-11: Web variant handling looks correct.

Normalizing to environmentName and accepting both 'web' and web:* cleanly supports variants while keeping the API simple.

packages/rspeedy/plugin-react/test/config.test.ts (2)

7-7: Type import extension is appropriate.

Pulling in Rspack here to type EntryDescription in the new tests is a reasonable place for this dependency and keeps test typing explicit.

2357-2455: Nice coverage for base and variant environments.

These tests clearly exercise lynx / lynx:foo and web / web:foo behavior: config counts, ordering, and the expected background entry filenames for Lynx (with .rspeedy prefix) vs Web all line up with the plugin’s entry logic. This should guard future regressions in variant handling.

8-11: Confirm intended environment variant prefix and consider centralizing parsing

The normalization logic looks fine, but environmentName.startsWith('web:') bakes in the web:foo convention. Given PR discussion around avoiding : in env names, please double‑check that web: is still the final, agreed‑upon prefix and that this matches whatever isLynx and other env helpers are using. If the convention ends up being web-foo (or something else), this helper will need to be updated to stay in sync.

If we’re going to support multiple web/lynx variants, consider extracting a small shared utility (e.g., getEnvironmentName(environment) or isBaseEnvironment(environment, 'web')) so the normalization and prefix logic isn’t duplicated across isWeb, isLynx, and plugin code.

LGTM with the code change. But I'm think if we could omit the lynx-, web- in CHANGELOG, and support using an array of configuration.
And leave lynx- web- as an implementation detail.

E.g.: in lynx.config.js:

export default [
  { environment: { lynx: {} }},
  { environment: { web: {} }},
  { environment: { lynx: {}, web: {} }},
]

in createRspeedy:

import { createRspeedy } from '@lynx-js/rspeedy'

const rspeedy = await createRspeedy({
  rspeedyConfig: [
    { environment: { lynx: {} }},
    { environment: { web: {} }},
    { environment: { lynx: {}, web: {} }},
  ]
})

63-66: Consider using shared utility functions.

The environment detection logic here duplicates isLynx and isWeb from packages/rspeedy/core/src/utils/. If these utilities are exported from @lynx-js/rspeedy, consider importing them to reduce duplication:

+import { isLynx, isWeb } from '@lynx-js/rspeedy'
+// or the appropriate import path
+
 api.modifyBundlerChain(async (chain, { environment, isDev, isProd }) => {
     const entries = chain.entryPoints.entries() ?? {}
-    const isLynx = environment.name === 'lynx'
-      || environment.name.startsWith('lynx-')
-    const isWeb = environment.name === 'web'
-      || environment.name.startsWith('web-')
+    const isLynxEnv = isLynx(environment)
+    const isWebEnv = isWeb(environment)

If the utilities aren't currently exported, this can be deferred.

packages/rspeedy/plugin-react/test/config.test.ts (1)

2398-2402: Clarify the comment.

The comment "only lynx output will be emitted to .rspeedy" is ambiguous. Since lynx-foo is recognized as a Lynx variant, it also emits to .rspeedy. Consider rewording:

- // only lynx output will be emitted to `.rspeedy`
+ // lynx variants (including 'lynx-foo') also emit to `.rspeedy`

7-11: LGTM!

Clean refactor that normalizes the environment name extraction and extends matching to include lynx- prefixed variants. The implementation correctly handles both string and object inputs.

packages/rspeedy/plugin-react/test/config.test.ts (3)

7-7: LGTM!

The Rspack type import is correctly added to support the type assertions in the new environment tests.

2357-2375: LGTM!

Good test coverage for the base lynx environment. The .only modifier from the previous review has been removed.

2405-2454: LGTM!

Good test coverage for web and web-foo environments, correctly verifying that web environments don't use the .rspeedy intermediate path.
