…hild exits (#4956) Bun 1.4.0's Bun.spawnSync pointed the VM at its private wait loop for the length of the call. A finalizer that ran during one call released its poll on that loop, the cached loop's poll count drifted to zero, and a later call stopped polling for its child: it spun past its own timeout until the 120 s batch deadline. That is how Linux shard 1/4 batch 5 stalled inside release-version-sources.test.ts. oven-sh/bun#44581 fixes it and first ships in Bun 1.4.3. Adds a bounded regression test that reproduces the mechanism in a child and fails on 1.4.0.
…n Bun 1.4.2+ A refused HTTP/1.1 upload that was still sending its body never got a usable reply through the picker's TCP splice on newer Bun. On 1.4.2 the empty refusal and FIN reached the client but the front stopped draining the abandoned upload, so the connection never closed; on 1.4.3 the HTTP server ends a Connection: close response with destroySoon() before the listener's finish handler, which reset the splice before the reply arrived. claude-picker-upload's h1 buffered refusal cases passed only on Bun 1.4.0. The refusal path replaces that socket's destroySoon with the same resume and graceful end(); the front enables half-open reads after the ClientHello and, once the backend ends, unpipes and keeps discarding client ciphertext.
…1 uploads intact The previous commit made only refusals survive Bun 1.4.3's destroySoon() on a Connection: close response. A generated 502 and an early upstream reply to an unfinished HTTP/1.1 upload take the same closing path and could still reset before the client read them. All three now share the graceful close, with buffered regression cases for the 502 and the early reply.
The buffered early-reply case failed on Windows with a 502: the fixture origin answered 413 without reading the 4 MiB still arriving, closed with unread input, and Windows reset the connection and discarded the reply before the relay could read it. A real origin answering early keeps reading; so does the fixture now. The case still fails against the listener without the early-reply fix on Bun 1.4.3 (5/5) and passes on 1.4.0, 1.4.2 and 1.4.3.
Reading the body was not enough on Windows: Bun's own HTTP server, playing the origin, still closed the unfinished request with destroySoon(), and Windows delivered that reset ahead of the 413, so the relay saw a failed upstream and answered 502. The fixture origin now ends its socket with a FIN, as a real origin answering early does. Passes 5/5 on Bun 1.4.0, 1.4.2 and 1.4.3 (macOS); still fails against the listener without the early-reply fix on 1.4.3 (4/5).
If a pipe read rejected, runDriftChild left through finally with only the deadline cleared, so a still-running child was neither killed nor unrefed and could keep the test process alive. A read failure now takes the same SIGKILL, bounded reap and unref path as the deadline and fails the case as read-error.
…tion A peer's cleanup rmdirs the empty prompt-lock claims directory. When that landed between a contender's mkdir and its reads of the directory, the contender either called the namespace unsafe (deliberate removal required) or threw ENOENT out of tryAcquire. On the Bun 1.4.3 test runner the real eight-contender interleaving case hit the crash on Linux and macOS. Both windows now report "locked"; every check on a directory that does exist is unchanged.

…its witness The previous commit accepted a missing claims directory at the namespace check and then trusted a later lstat as the parent witness, so a foreign-owned replacement appearing in between was used without an ownership check and the writer ran inside it. The directory is now read once: missing or busy is contention, and that same observation must pass the type, symlink and POSIX owner checks (shared as safeNamespaceStat) before it becomes the witness.

Reviewed the changed runtime/test boundaries at ad1540aa43, not just the runner pin: testRunnerBun changes to 1.4.3 while the shipped Bun remains 1.4.2; the picker patch changes unfinished h1 close/drain behavior without changing h2, and prompt-lock claims now treat a vanished directory as contention from one validated observation. The claim tests cover both removal windows, while the picker regression extends buffered 502/early replies beyond the original refusal case.
Important evidence correction: the green full-dispatch receipt 38237819459 in Verification is pinned to feedaca2c4, not this current ad1540aa43. Current Cross-platform CI 38259787676 is queued. Please retain the historical pin and require current-head required checks before integration. I have not independently reproduced the upstream Bun poll-finalizer mechanism or executed these suites here; foreign Cargo builds defer local work. The prior Linux 1.4.2 refusal-only receipt on #6984 did not cover the new buffered paths/platform failure and is not a contradiction. Windows silent-child cases in #4956 remain unclosed. Explicit CI/dependency/picker-boundary review is still a separate hold, not waived by this COMMENT. No scan or CI approval/dispatch.
#6986 made the picker's TCP front keep reading and discarding client ciphertext after the backend ends a connection, so an HTTP/1.1 refusal, generated 502 or early reply sent with Connection: close is not reset before the client reads it. That discard had no end: a client that keeps trickling an abandoned upload held the connection until listener shutdown. Once the backend has ended and the reply has flushed to the client socket (finish), the front now arms a drop after PICKER_ABANDONED_INPUT_LINGER_MS (30 s); a connection that closes first cancels it. Arming after the flush keeps the reply and its Connection: close behaviour intact. The timer is injected through a test seam, so claude-picker-linger.test.ts fires it deterministically with a half-open TLS client that never stops uploading; the existing claude-picker-upload cases are unchanged. …hild exits (#4956) (#6986) Squashed from #6986 for the 2.84.0 release train. Linux CI shard 1/4 batch 5 kept hitting its 120 s batch deadline (#4956; runs 38146205183 and 38162375606). The batch did not stall after its tests passed: it stalled inside `tests/ci-workflows/release-version-sources.test.ts`, in a `Bun.spawnSync(..., { timeout: 15000 })` that never returned. **Root cause (Bun 1.4.0, the CI test runner).** For the length of a call, `Bun.spawnSync` pointed the VM at its private wait loop. A finalizer that ran during the call (an earlier file's stdout/stderr sink, a stream reader) released its poll on that loop. The loop is cached for the life of the process, so its poll count drifted to zero. A later call then stopped polling for its child: the child became a zombie and the call spun at 100% CPU past its own `timeout`. In a multi-file `--isolate` process this depends on what earlier files left to finalize, which is why every file passed alone. Upstream fixed it in oven-sh/bun#44581, first released in Bun 1.4.3. Evidence: - **Hosted reproduction** (scratch branch, not part of this PR): running shard 1/4 batches 1–5 in sequence on Bun 1.4.0 stalled 8 of 252 batch-5 runs at the same test (run 38213764818). Each dump shows the same state: - the test process main thread in state R, symbolized as `spawn_maybe_sync` → `tick_with_timeout` → `tick_tasks_only`; - the CLI child a zombie; - its pidfd armed level-triggered in spawnSync's private epoll but never waited on. - **Hosted A/B:** the same sequence on Bun 1.4.3 had 0 stalls in 280 batch-5 runs and no crash in 1,400 batches (run 38215466714). Running the 12-file batch alone never stalled in 450 runs (run 38213203939). - **Local:** upstream's mechanism with one finalized poll hung past its own timeout in 10 of 12 runs on 1.4.0 and passed 12 of 12 on 1.4.3. **Changes** - `package.json` `testRunnerBun` 1.4.0 → 1.4.3. The shipped runtime (`dependencies.bun` 1.4.2) and Docker image are unchanged. The pin rationale is updated in the setup action, `ci.yml`, `Dockerfile`, `structure/runtime.md`, `CONTRIBUTING.md` and the docs-site contributing page, and the pin assertion in `install-scripts.test.ts` is updated. - New `tests/ci-workflows/test-runner-spawnsync-finalizer.test.ts` (+ child fixture): reproduces the mechanism in a child of the test-runner Bun under a bounded async parent (10 s deadline, 3 s reap grace, settles even if exit or EOF never arrive). It fails on 1.4.0 (one writer: never returns; three writers: timeout with empty output) and passes on 1.4.3. Skipped on Windows, like upstream's case. Closes #6984

Summary
Linux CI shard 1/4 batch 5 kept hitting its 120 s batch deadline (#4956; runs 38146205183 and 38162375606). The batch did not stall after its tests passed: it stalled inside
tests/ci-workflows/release-version-sources.test.ts, in aBun.spawnSync(..., { timeout: 15000 })that never returned.Root cause (Bun 1.4.0, the CI test runner). For the length of a call,
Bun.spawnSyncpointed the VM at its private wait loop. A finalizer that ran during the call (an earlier file's stdout/stderr sink, a stream reader) released its poll on that loop. The loop is cached for the life of the process, so its poll count drifted to zero. A later call then stopped polling for its child: the child became a zombie and the call spun at 100% CPU past its owntimeout. In a multi-file--isolateprocess this depends on what earlier files left to finalize, which is why every file passed alone. Upstream fixed it in oven-sh/bun#44581, first released in Bun 1.4.3.Evidence:

package.jsontestRunnerBun1.4.0 → 1.4.3. The shipped runtime (dependencies.bun1.4.2) and Docker image are unchanged. It fails on 1.4.0 (one writer: never returns; three writers: timeout with empty output) and passes on 1.4.3. Skipped on Windows, like upstream's case.server-authrecorded Bun's refused-connection code literally. 1.4.3 saysECONNREFUSEDwhere 1.4.0 saidConnectionRefused;PRE_CONNECT_REACHABILITY_CODESalready treats both alike, and the assertion now accepts either.Claude picker relay (Claude picker relay: HTTP/1.1 refusal of an unfinished upload hangs (Bun 1.4.2) or resets (Bun 1.4.3) #6984, a real defect on the shipped 1.4.2 runtime). An HTTP/1.1 reply that closes an unfinished upload (refusal, generated 502, early upstream reply) either hung the connection (1.4.2: the TCP front stopped draining the abandoned upload) or reset it before the reply arrived (1.4.3: Bun ends
Connection: closeresponses withdestroySoon()before the listener's finish handler, node:http: the server follows Node (request body, framing, response finish, lifecycle) oven-sh/bun#43557).picker-listener.tsnow gives only that closing socket a gracefuldestroySoonand lets the front keep draining client input after the backend ends. Buffered 502 and early-reply regression cases were added; the early-reply fixture origin keeps reading its body and closes with a FIN, as a real origin answering early does. Bun's own server, playing the origin, would otherwise close the unfinished request withdestroySoon(), and Windows delivers that reset ahead of the reply, so no relay could read it. The h1 buffered refusal cases previously passed only on 1.4.0.Prompt-lock claims race (product code). On the 1.4.3 runner, the real eight-contender
codex-prompt-lockcase crashed on hosted Linux and macOS. A peer's cleanup removes the empty<lock>.claimsdirectory; when that landed between another contender'smkdirand its reads, tryAcquirethrewENOENT, or one step earlier reported a falseunsafeverdict. Both windows now reportlocked. Two deterministic tests inject the removal: red against the old code, green on 1.4.0 and 1.4.3. None of 58 faileddevjobs since 2026-10-09 (1.4.0) show this failure; the faster 1.4.3 runner exposes the existing race.Refs #4956: this fixes its Linux
