Summary

  • Carry the legacy stored-credential fallback correction from fix(oauth): preserve account identity when pausing Anthropic credentials #6378 and replace token-equality-only Claude credential adoption with account identity verified for the exact bearer. Normal two-token rotation can recover the same account; an unproven replacement cannot silently change the stored account.
  • Preserve account pause, refresh-intent and concurrent replacement protections. Identityless historical imports that no longer have a verifiable bearer require explicit recovery; no ownership is inferred from an email, organization, file location or active selection.
  • Source: fix(oauth): preserve account identity when pausing Anthropic credentials #6378 at 3db2ab4. Addresses the technical hold recorded in issuecomment-5931938466; maintainer governance remains with the coordinator. This carry does not close or modify the source PR.

Verification

Candidate: fdbc76cd2509cf86a6b03864e72e4de8323d94e8; tree 2eec0582ce100d9c7c863e3d84bea3abf9015538, including dev at e601cef. Independent code/security reviews and local gates passed. Exact-head Cross-platform CI passed: run 37135487096, pull_request attempt 1. All applicable jobs executed successfully; deliberate Windows/macOS/native/filter skips remain untested. Coordinator final independent review passed at this exact head, and current review threads are resolved.

  • bun test tests/oauth/oauth-anthropic-identity.test.ts tests/oauth/oauth-store-multi.test.ts tests/oauth/local-token-detect.test.ts tests/oauth/oauth-refresh.test.ts tests/adapters/anthropic/anthropic-account-pause.test.ts tests/oauth/oauth-accounts-api.test.ts tests/claude-integration/messages-native-oauth.test.ts tests/test-layout.test.ts tests/test-layout-tooling.test.ts tests/ci-workflows/file-size-ratchet.test.ts — 299 passed, 0 failed, 2090 assertions.
  • Additional affected consumer checks: reauth binding, status privacy, public surface, generic refresh lock, account-ID collision, login summary and core/Lab boundary — 88 passed, 0 failed.
  • bun run typecheck, bun run privacy:scan, bun run structure:check, staged whitespace check — passed.
  • cd docs-site && bun install --frozen-lockfile && ASTRO_TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1 bun run build — passed, 561 pages and 77,932 internal links.
  • Demonstrated unsafe unknown-pair adoption and the initial-snapshot concurrency race failing before repair and passing afterwards. Original full-token rotation and abort/cleanup assertions remain.
  • Independent security/code review inspected all 20 changed files, found the initial-snapshot race, and verified its repair: PASS. GitHub Codex profile-header finding is fixed in 37fc1fdf53: wire regression RED-to-GREEN, 45 identity tests passed, typecheck/privacy passed, independent two-line interdiff PASS.
  • Cross-platform CI passed for 84630c5, run 37131181719. Current-head evidence is run37135487096 above; the older run remains historical only.

The full local suite is deferred under the repository resource exception because concurrent worktrees share host resources. Focused regressions, typecheck, structure/privacy and docs checks plus applicable current-head PR CI are required. Installed Claude CLI/keychain, live provider accounts and Windows behavior are not claimed by synthetic local tests. Profile shape is grounded in signed installed Claude Code 2.1.288 source, not a live account probe.

The coordinator found a retry-safe cleanup ordering regression (F1). Fixed in 07f96a6237: validated same-generation cleanup resumes before a different-account pending-intent refusal. Added producer-to-retry regressions for definitive rejection and pre-dispatch markers, temporary/persistent unlink failure and uncertain-intent refusal. These failed before the fix and now pass; lane independent interdiff review passed. 60c449b2f2 additionally restores guarded cleanup of an obsolete-generation intent after durable same-account adoption and failed cleanup, while current/uncertain intents remain blocked. Its reproduction failed before repair and passes after repair; the state-matrix interdiff review passed.

Current-base composition check: 350 tests / 2212 assertions passed across identity, native Messages, both A fixes, Ollama, B quota display, C pricing, Lab and layout/ratchet suites. Typecheck/privacy/structure and docs build passed on the combined tree. Final placement of the identity registration beside OAuth cases is semantically unchanged; 27 layout/ratchet checks passed after that move, retaining all 1971 unique mappings.

The late CodeRabbit redundant-read item is fixed: adoption skips only the outer disk lookup; full disk/selection/owner/abort checks remain inside serialized persistence. Non-adopt checks retain their behavior. A read-location regression and queued disk-change negative pass; independent interdiff review passed, and the review thread is resolved with the exact scope.

Checklist

  • Scope stays focused and avoids unrelated cleanup.
  • Docs or release notes were updated when needed.
  • Security-sensitive changes were reviewed for secrets, auth, and unsafe defaults.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • Anthropic account fallback now follows account order and skips paused, reauthentication-required, or soon-to-expire Claude Code credentials.
    • Claude Code credentials are matched to saved accounts using verified identity or shared tokens, helping prevent accidental account changes during credential updates.
    • When no eligible fallback account is available, quota checks and live model searches wait for a usable account. Legacy accounts can still be selected explicitly.

Carry legacy fallback and refresh skew from #6378 at 3db2ab4. Verify fully rotated Claude pairs against bearer-bound account identity and capture ownership from one coherent store snapshot. Preserve unresolved history and refresh intent without guessing account ownership.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Anthropic OAuth now stores bearer-bound account identity proofs and checks credential continuity and account ownership during Claude credential adoption and refresh. Account fallback eligibility uses a shared 60-second refresh window. Documentation and tests cover recovery, legacy accounts, and fallback behavior.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to fdbc7

No actionable issue remains in the reviewed change. Fresh exact-head CI is still pending as a normal pre-merge check.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to fdbc7

The inspected changes strengthen account continuity and reject unverified credential replacements. No introduced security regression was identified in the reviewed paths. Remaining uncertainty concerns broader consumer coverage and recovery compatibility for historical credentials.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The examined sensitive outcome is replacement of one selected Anthropic account’s stored access and refresh credentials. Disk adoption is restricted to local-CLI-sourced credentials and a captured account generation; background pool access retains restrictions against adopting a global CLI credential into an unrelated slot.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — A different-account disk credential with no shared token cannot authorize adoption through email, organization, file location, or active selection alone: matching old and new bearer-bound account proofs are required. This check supports rejection of that substitution path, not a conclusion that all credential consumers are secure.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The bearer is sent only to the fixed profile destination with redirects disabled. The returned account UUID becomes identity evidence bound to that bearer; the digest binds stored metadata to a token but is not a signature protecting against a writer who already controls the credential store.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Credentials are persisted before successful refresh-intent cleanup. Uncertain post-dispatch failures retain the replay guard; definitive rejection or pre-dispatch failure can clear it. Terminal failures mark reauthentication for the matching generation, while stale ownership prevents overwriting a replacement account. In-flight normal rotation may persist credentials for a paused account without clearing its pause flag.

Owner Author

Owner-authorized progressive maintainer integration into dev for the release stabilization train; this is a scoped integration/security decision, not a self-approval or withdrawal of another maintainer's review.

The technical hold on source #6378 is addressed in this replacement: same-account full token-pair rotation uses authenticated bearer-bound identity rather than requiring token equality; legacy source-less pause fallback remains eligible using its own credentials, and the refresh skew has one owner. Ownership is not inferred from email, organization, file location or current selection. An already-expired historical import with no verifiable old bearer/proof still needs explicit operator recovery; that documented security boundary is not disguised as transparent legacy migration.

Independent coordinator review inspected all 20 files and found the retry-safe cleanup ordering regression. It was reproduced and repaired for definitive-rejection/pre-dispatch cleanup, persistent I/O, uncertain intents and obsolete markers after durable adoption. The same reviewer closed F1 and the later minimal Keychain-read interdiff at this exact head with PASS/no blockers. The final in-mutation owner/abort/pause/disk-generation guard and original credential-source precedence remain; only the redundant adoption pre-check disk read is skipped. Known GitHub findings are resolved. Explicit security review: no remaining blocker within these boundaries.

The private identity proof is bound to its bearer and omitted from public account summaries; network destination, redirects, deadlines and response size are constrained. Queued replacement and cancellation cannot authorize a stale adoption. Focused behavior/consumer checks, source-bound mutation/reproduction evidence, typecheck/privacy/structure and docs checks passed. Current native/source integration is included in this head, and the merged tree passes the repository line-cap evaluator and test-map parity.

No live Anthropic account, installed Keychain rotation or native Windows behavior is claimed. The profile contract is grounded in the signed installed client and existing endpoint helper; synthetic tests and hosted CI establish code behavior. Final independent integrated regression and full cross-platform candidate validation still precede publication. Contributor credit and source provenance are retained.

All four Linux shards and selected gates/storage/API/docs/structure/Docker/keyring/npm-global jobs succeeded. Skipped full-platform suites are not claimed passing; final integrated lane=all remains required.
