The .txz/.tzst normalization is a good fix, but please reverse the new archive preference to TarZst > TarXz > other archives (while retaining the existing Windows ZIP preference).
tar.xz generally minimizes bytes, but tar.zst is usually the better default for mise's install path because its much faster decompression tends to produce lower end-to-end install latency. For perspective, the current mise Linux x64 release is about 22.6 MB as xz versus 27.0 MB as zstd; that modest transfer difference is unlikely to outweigh extraction time on a typical connection. The Elide example still benefits from xz because it currently offers gzip and xz, so this does not weaken the suffix-matching fix.
Please also add a focused selection test that locks in the intended tar.zst → tar.xz → other archive order.

@jdx thanks for the quick review :) will fix! |
Variants of tar, namely, `xz` and `zstd`, were not included in the extension qualifier list for `asset_name_stem` before this commit. `tgz` was considered, but not `txz` or `tzst`, resulting in a bug with asset resolution: these assets do not have their stem trimmed and so are considered completely separate assets from sibling zip or tgz assets. For a given identical corpus, `tar.xz` files are typically smaller than `tar.zst`, which are in turn typically smaller than `tar.gz`. This commit adjusts `score_format_preferences` to slightly prefer such assets within their stemmed bucket. Given a stem-matched set of assets where a `tar.xz` (or `txz`) or `tar.zst` (or `tzst`) is available, it will be selected over other formats, like `tar.gz` or `zip`. This PR applies two changes:
(1) The extensions
txzandtzstwere not considered as part ofasset_name_steminsrc/backend/asset_matcher.rs, resulting in e.g.asset-1.tgzandasset-2.txzbeing considered different assets (rather than merely differing by format), when e.g.asset-1.tar.gzandasset-2.tar.xzwould match.(2) It seems smart for
miseto explicitly prefertar.xzandtar.zstformats (regardless of extension expression as three-letter or longer) over e.g.tar.gzor others, sincexzandzsttypically produce smaller archives, andmiseusers care more about decompressing/downloading than CPU overhead for compression. If (2) is too opinionated, (1) can be taken alone.
