Create a RefID

We use unique RefID to distinguish different publications.

The simple rule is to use the first author's surname and the publication year. If a new paper shares the same surname and year, we will append a Latin letter to distinguish it from papers already in the database.

<surname of the first author><Two digit year>[Latin letter to avoid conflicts]

You can find a full list of assigned RefID here.

For example:

Diamond21 stands for a study published in 2021, it's the first publication we found with the surname "Diamond" in 2021

Li21c stands for a study published in 2021, it is the third paper we found with the surname "Li" in 2021

For studies published by organizations without author names, we use the organization name. E.g. FDA21, WHO21, etc.

Comment: always search the reference list before you create a RefID.

Update a RefID

Under one condition we will update the RefID: the paper is a preprint paper in last year and published this year.

For example

Wang21e is a preprint paper released in 2021, and it's the fifth paper we found. Then the paper was published in 2022, and it's the second paper we found in 2022, we will update the RefID to Wang22b
