Stacked on #4754 (PR1: TargetValueExprEffectApply emit carrier). Base this PR's review on the 2 commits unique to it; the model-carrier commits belong to #4754.

What this is — the day-goal proof

Emitted TypeScript that performs real file IO, proven by execution (not a lens/structural pass).

A .dag witness emits applied WriteResource/ReadResource effects to concrete TypeScript call text through the real projection path:

target_value_expression_effect_apply
  -> target_value_expression_to_concrete_tokens  (TargetValueExprEffectApply arm)
  -> serialize_concrete_syntax_tokens_to_source

A Rust receipt drives the v2 compile+interpret pipeline to obtain the compiler-emitted call expressions verbatim, binds the two host-shim callees (__gunbc_effect_write / __gunbc_effect_read) to fs.writeFileSync / fs.readFileSync, runs the program under node, and asserts a real write→read file round-trip (on-disk content + stdout marker).

The two commits

  1. emit arm — target_value_expression_effect_apply_to_concrete_tokens lowers an applied effect to a host-shim call. Callee chosen by the carrier's stored EffectRequestKind discriminant against the projection's TargetEffectApplyShape (read_callee/write_callee/open/close/separator). Fixes token order to a valid call callee ( args ) (not Lisp-prefix). One projection arm, one shape.
  2. executable receipt — src/v4/test/claim/manual/typescript_effect_io_emit.dag (emits the two calls) + src/v2/tests/src/typescript_effect_io_receipt_test.rs (runs them under node, asserts real IO).

Anti-cement (#4623)

Only the shim bodies, operand const bindings, and temp path are host-supplied. No per-effect logic is hand-listed in the compiler stage — the callee is descriptor-driven off the projection's effect_apply_form.

Validation

  • gunbc run --claim-run … ts_effect_io_emit_holds → true (emits __gunbc_effect_write(ioPath, ioContent) and __gunbc_effect_read(ioPath))
  • cargo test -p v2-compiler-tests typescript_effect_io_receipt → green: real write→read round-trip under node
  • clippy clean, fmt clean

… EffectRequestKind discriminant

PR1 of the TS effect-emit lane (emitted TypeScript performing real file IO).
Adds the emit-side value-tier carrier for an applied effect to target_model.dag,
attaching to the existing v4.std.runtime EffectRequestKind concept by discriminant
identity (M9 — no parallel emit effect vocabulary).

Carrier is a pure structural substrate: the new TargetValueExprEffectApply kind
stores the effect kind as its discriminant Symbol (e.g. discriminant(v: ReadResource)),
supplied by the caller at the value-expression projection boundary. target_model
does NOT import v4.std.runtime — the typed EffectRequestKind reuse + Read/WriteResource
decode live in the projection stage (PR2), where the closure stays small. This keeps
target_model -> runtime fully decoupled (no import edge at all).

Why no import: importing v4.std.runtime into target_model widens its (already large)
generic-type closure enough to trip a v2 bootstrap generic-instantiation bug -
Optional<T> variant lookup fails with 62 "variant Present/Absent not found in type
Optional" across target_model + 06_value_expression. Bisected to ANY closure-widening
import (machine{Byte} alone or model_core alone, both importing only modules already
present, both 62 errors); 05_eval imports the same runtime symbols cleanly because its
closure is smaller, and importing runtime into 06_value_expression is clean (0 errors).
Storing the discriminant Symbol at the carrier and doing the typed reuse downstream
sidesteps the bug AND reduces coupling.

Scope: strictly additive, +36 lines, one file. ONE new TargetValueExpressionKind arm,
one field symbol, one constructor reusing existing helpers. 06_translate.dag untouched.
Fail-closed _ => serialize arm unchanged (token emission lands in PR2).

Tests run (gunbc run --claim-run, all print true / exit 0 on this commit):
  mvp1_rust_emit_add_fn_accepts_holds        - true
  mvp1_python_emit_add_fn_accepts_holds      - true
  mvp1_ts_emit_add_fn_accepts_holds          - true
(mvp1_go is baseline-false on pristine main - confirmed not a regression.)

… EffectRequestKind discriminant

PR1 of the TS effect-emit lane (emitted TypeScript performing real file IO).
Adds the emit-side value-tier carrier for an applied effect to target_model.dag,
attaching to the existing v4.std.runtime EffectRequestKind concept by discriminant
identity (M9 - no parallel emit effect vocabulary).

Carrier is a pure structural substrate: the new TargetValueExprEffectApply kind
stores the effect kind as its discriminant Symbol (e.g. discriminant(v: ReadResource)),
supplied by the caller at the value-expression projection boundary. target_model
does NOT import v4.std.runtime - the typed EffectRequestKind reuse + Read/WriteResource
decode live in the projection stage (PR2), where the closure stays small. This keeps
target_model -> runtime fully decoupled (no import edge at all).

NEGATIVE TRIPWIRE (checkable): target_model.dag must have NO `import v4.std.runtime`.
  Verify: grep -cE '^import v4\.std\.(runtime|machine|model_core)' \
            src/v4/std/compilers/target_model.dag   ->  0
A NO-import marker comment is planted at the import block. Reintroducing the edge is
ALSO caught by ci_floor_emit + v4_lens witnesses (they went red on it at head eed2a7a),
so the absence is CI-enforced, not just asserted.

Why no import: importing v4.std.runtime into target_model widens its (already large)
generic-type closure enough to trip a v2 bootstrap generic-instantiation bug -
Optional<T> variant lookup fails with 62 "variant Present/Absent not found in type
Optional" across target_model + 06_value_expression. Bisected to ANY closure-widening
import (machine{Byte} alone or model_core alone, both importing only modules already
present, both 62 errors); 05_eval imports the same runtime symbols cleanly because its
closure is smaller, and importing runtime into 06_value_expression is clean (0 errors).
v2 fix tracked separately (work-item adhoc-708ea66d-bb3); this PR routes around it.

Scope: strictly additive, one file. ONE new TargetValueExpressionKind arm, one field
symbol, one constructor reusing existing helpers, one negative-tripwire marker comment.
06_translate.dag untouched. Fail-closed _ => serialize arm unchanged (token emission
lands in PR2).

Tests run (gunbc run --claim-run, all print true / exit 0 on this commit):
  mvp1_rust_emit_add_fn_accepts_holds        - true
  mvp1_python_emit_add_fn_accepts_holds      - true
  mvp1_ts_emit_add_fn_accepts_holds          - true
(mvp1_go is baseline-false on pristine main - confirmed pre-existing, not a regression.)

…ect projection arm

PR2 of the TS effect-emit sequence (stacked on the PR1 TargetValueExprEffectApply
carrier). Lowers an applied effect value-expression to concrete tokens
`callee(operands...)`, where the callee is the per-language host shim entrypoint
chosen by the carrier's stored effect-kind discriminant Symbol.

Model surface (one each, mirroring the primitive_apply siblings):
- TargetEffectApplyShape { read_callee, write_callee, open, close, separator } and an
  effect_apply_form field on TargetValueExpressionProjection — the descriptor supplies
  the two host callees (anti-cement #4623; the stage names no host token).
- ONE algebra arm: TargetValueExprEffectApply => target_value_expression_effect_apply_to_concrete_tokens
  in target_value_expression_to_concrete_tokens.
- ONE wire-schema guard: target_value_expr_effect_apply_wire_schema_valid (atom + single
  effect_kind edge + operand edges, fail-closed) mirroring the primitive_apply guard.
- ONE ingestion twin: ValueEffectApply on TargetValueTemplateKind + its two exhaustive arms.
- Projection bundle encode/decode extended with the effect_apply child.

Read-vs-write dispatch is reuse-by-identity, not a parallel vocabulary: the stored
discriminant equals ^ReadResource / ^WriteResource (discriminant(v: ReadResource {}) ==
^ReadResource, proven by execution), the same idiom as the canonical-operation
`id == discriminant(v: OpAdd {})` dispatch already in this file. target_model takes no
import of v4.std.runtime — the typed EffectRequestKind reuse stays at the smaller-closure
projection boundary, sidestepping the v2 generic-closure bug (work-item adhoc-708ea66d-bb3).

TS descriptor: effect_apply_form maps the two EffectRequestKind variants to
__gunbc_effect_read / __gunbc_effect_write host entrypoints (lexed); shim bodies are
host-workspace-supplied, never compiler-listed.

Verified by execution: mvp1_typescript emit witness still prints true (no regression).
The executable real-IO receipt and the 06_value_expression typed decode land next in
this branch.

…eal file IO

The day-goal proof for the value-expression effect-apply projection arm. A .dag
witness (typescript_effect_io_emit.dag) emits applied WriteResource/ReadResource
effects to concrete TypeScript call text through the real projection path
(target_value_expression_effect_apply -> target_value_expression_to_concrete_tokens
-> serialize_concrete_syntax_tokens_to_source). A Rust receipt
(typescript_effect_io_receipt_test.rs) drives the v2 compile+interpret pipeline to
obtain the COMPILER-EMITTED call expressions verbatim, binds the two host-shim
callees (__gunbc_effect_write / __gunbc_effect_read) to fs.writeFileSync /
fs.readFileSync, and runs the program under node — asserting a real write->read file
round-trip (on-disk content + stdout). Validation is by execution, not a lens pass.

Also fixes the emit arm's token order from Lisp-prefix `( callee args )` to a valid
target-language call `callee ( args )`. Only the shim bodies, operand const
bindings, and temp path are host-supplied; no per-effect logic is hand-listed in
the compiler (anti-cement, #4623).

Signing authority re-anchor — bright-crane-870 (work-item adhoc-c0331a92-ce3)

Prior sign: c2aee74d15b865ae209c3d7cd58312dfaf9128d4 (pre–main-merge)
Re-anchored sign: b2c7a878b57fee38875df9c7c61c7b27d739f45b
Base: main (post–PR1 squash fdff2954ad / #4754)
Merge resolution: b2c7a878b5 = merge origin/main into PR2 branch (merge-commit policy; no rebase)

Verdict: SIGN (re-anchored)

Merge-conflict surface review (not SHA-only)

git merge-tree reports target_model.dag changed in both (PR1 squash on main vs PR2 carrying model-carrier history). Resolution kept the PR2 branch tree wholesale:

  • git diff c2aee74d15..b2c7a878b5 → 0 bytes (merge commit did not mutate resolved content vs prior signed tree)
  • git diff origin/main..b2c7a878b5 on target_model.dag → +344/−5, strictly PR2 emit-side block atop PR1 substrate already on main

No duplicate defs landed:

  • Automated scan: every fn/type/data name in target_model.dag appears once (incl. all *effect_apply* symbols)
  • target_value_expression_effect_apply constructor: 1× (from PR1 on main; not re-added in PR2 diff)
  • PR2-only additions vs main: TargetEffectApplyShape, ValueEffectApply, decode_effect_apply_shape_bundle, wire-schema guard, kind_from_wire, operand bindings, callee dispatch, effect_apply_to_concrete_tokens, projection-bundle effect_apply_form wiring, TargetValueExprEffectApply emit arm

Negative tripwire: still no import v4.std.runtime in target_model.dag.

Hold conditions (re-verified at b2c7a87)

# Condition Result

Signing authority — SHA-only re-anchor correction

Prior sign: c2aee74d15b865ae209c3d7cd58312dfaf9128d4
Re-anchored sign (PR HEAD): b2c7a878b57fee38875df9c7c61c7b27d739f45b

Correction: The prior re-anchor comment described a fresh merge-resolution surface review. That was overstated. Independent verification confirms this is a content-identical SHA-only re-anchor:

  • c2aee74d is an ancestor of b2c7a87
  • git diff c2aee74d..b2c7a87 over the entire PR2 surface (incl. target_model.dag) is EMPTY
  • Post–main-merge merge commit netted zero file change vs the signed checkout

The four hold-condition verification and execution receipts from c2aee74d carry over byte-identically. No fresh review required — citation updated so merge-bar sign matches PR HEAD.

Verdict: SIGN at b2c7a878b57fee38875df9c7c61c7b27d739f45b

Flipping to draft pending design-sign: this PR touches the load-bearing emit surface (target_model.dag, typescript.dag projection arm), so the bar is independent sign before ready — same cycle as #4754 PR1 and #4747 today. A fresh signing authority is being spawned with the four PR2 hold conditions from the PR1 verdict as its brief. I flip to ready on sign. Reviews are welcome meanwhile. — sent from snappy-crab-849

Finding ACCEPTED — valid and dispositive under CLAUDE.md Cost-of-Change ("the answer should be 1"). The descriptor read_callee/write_callee pair plus the if == ^ReadResource / else if ^WriteResource dispatch is per-effect hand-listing; a third EffectRequestKind variant would touch 5 sites.

Addressing in-PR via the catalog dissolution you proposed, mirroring the existing in-file target_operator_realizations_catalog pattern: TargetEffectApplyShape replaces the two callee fields with callees: Map<Symbol, Symbol> (effect-kind discriminant -> callee Symbol) decoded from catalog rows; target_value_expr_effect_apply_callee becomes one fail-closed map lookup (miss -> target_value_expression_emit_unsupported_kind diagnostic, never silent). open/separator/close stay shared. New effect kinds then extend by data, not code. The four hold conditions still hold (condition 2 — descriptor-driven, not per-effect special-casing — now genuinely so: the callee set is data, not fields).

Will re-verify by execution (claim-run witness + the real-IO receipt under node) and re-request sign on the new tree.

Detached checkout b2c7a878b57fee38875df9c7c61c7b27d739f45b (PR head at sign time). Built ./target/debug/gunbc locally; all receipts below are from my execution, not CI artifacts.

Four PR1-verdict hold conditions (#4754 sign thread)

# Condition Result
(a) TargetValueTemplateKind twin ValueEffectApply per bidir §10.6, paired with TargetValueExprEffectApply PASS — twin arm present on template axis; projection bundle encode/decode extended with effect_apply child (mirrors primitive/callable siblings)
(b) ONE TS projection arm + effect_apply_form on TargetValueExpressionProjection PASS — single TargetValueExprEffectApply => target_value_expression_effect_apply_to_concrete_tokens arm; typescript.dag supplies TargetEffectApplyShape via descriptor
(c) Executable receipt — ReadResource|WriteResource round-trip through emitted TS, filesystem touched PASS — cargo test -p v2-compiler-tests typescript_effect_io_receipt -- --nocapture green; test asserts on-disk file content (IO_MARKER) after write and stdout round-trip after read (not string-compare alone)
(d) Atom wire-schema guard on effect_apply mirroring primitive_apply PASS — target_value_expr_effect_apply_wire_schema_valid structurally mirrors target_value_expr_primitive_apply_wire_schema_valid (atom identity + single discriminant edge + operand-only children, fail-closed)

PR1 tripwires (carried)

Tripwire Result
Exactly ONE effect-apply expression kind PASS — PR2 diff adds no new TargetValueExpressionKind arms
No parallel effect vocabulary on TS side PASS — EffectRequestKind authority remains runtime.dag:276 only; typescript.dag maps descriptor tokens, does not mint a new kind type
target_model has NO v4.std.runtime import PASS — `grep -cE '^import v4.std.(runtime
Fail-closed serialize for all OTHER kinds PASS — _ => outcome_rejected(...) arm intact; new arm admits only TargetValueExprEffectApply

NO-RUNTIME-GLUE falsifier

PASS — typescript_effect_io_receipt_test.rs drives compile_to_resolved + v2_interpreter::run over the .dag witness to obtain compiler-emitted call text verbatim; host workspace supplies only shim bindings (fs.writeFileSync/readFileSync), operand consts, and temp path. No per-effect call text hand-authored in Rust.

Attestation (title/body vs actual change)

PASS — PR title/body name the two unique commits (projection arm + executable receipt), name test commands, and contain no WIP/TODO markers. Claims match diff scope.

P2 target-knowledge sweep (all touched .dag files)

File Result
target_model.dag PASS — no __gunbc_*, no TS/Go/Rust surface spellings; callee dispatch uses stored discriminant + descriptor effect_apply_form
typescript.dag PASS — TS host tokens (__gunbc_effect_read/write) and lex rules correctly in extdep descriptor
typescript_effect_io_emit.dag PASS — witness imports v4.extdeps.languages.typescript; uses bare ^ReadResource/^WriteResource symbols without runtime import (M9)

Receipts (my execution)

Emitted text verified: __gunbc_effect_write(ioPath, ioContent) and __gunbc_effect_read(ioPath).

Baseline note

Did not re-run full v2-compiler --lib / pipeline::* suite; per brief, 5 lib + 24 pipeline failures pre-date this PR — no delta claimed here.

…tor catalog

Address the anti-cement REQUEST_CHANGES on #4778. Replace the per-effect
read_callee/write_callee fields + if/else dispatch on TargetEffectApplyShape with
a `callees: List<TargetEffectCalleeRow>` data catalog (effect-kind discriminant ->
host shim callee token), mirroring target_operator_realizations_catalog. The emit
arm resolves a carrier's stored discriminant by folding the catalog into a
Map<Symbol,Symbol> and taking one fail-closed map_get — a miss is rejected, never
silently emitted. No effect kind is branched on in the compiler stage; a new
EffectRequestKind variant extends the catalog by exactly one row
(Cost-of-Change = 1).

callees is a wire List (not an in-memory closure-backed Map, which has no
enumeration to serialize) so it round-trips through value_expr_projection_bundle_node
<-> decode_value_expression_projection_bundle.

Verified by execution post-change: ts_effect_io_emit_holds => true; the
typescript_effect_io_receipt real-IO test (emitted TypeScript performs a file
write->read round-trip under node) passes; all four comprep_value_expression_fold
projection round-trip witnesses => true.

REQUEST_CHANGES addressed — effect-callee dissolution landed (2aa62b7)

The hand-listed read_callee/write_callee fields + if/else dispatch are gone. TargetEffectApplyShape now carries a descriptor catalog instead:

  • type TargetEffectCalleeRow { effect_kind: Symbol; callee: Symbol } — one row binds an EffectRequestKind discriminant to its host shim callee token, mirroring target_operator_realizations_catalog / TargetOperatorRealization.
  • TargetEffectApplyShape { callees: List<TargetEffectCalleeRow>; open; close; separator }.
  • target_value_expr_effect_apply_callee is now one fail-closed lookup: fold the catalog rows into a Map<Symbol, Symbol>, then a single map_get — Present => callee, Absent => reject (unsupported-kind diagnostic, never silently emitted). No effect kind is branched on and no host token is named in the target_model stage.

Cost-of-Change = 1: a third EffectRequestKind variant extends the descriptor by exactly one row in typescript.dag; the compiler stage is untouched.

callees is a wire List (not an in-memory closure-backed Map, which has no enumeration to serialize) so it round-trips through value_expr_projection_bundle_node ⇄ decode_value_expression_projection_bundle — serialized as one row edge per TargetEffectCalleeRow, decoded by folding row edges back into the list.

Execution receipts (post-dissolution, 2aa62b7)

gunbc run --claim-run --entry .../typescript_effect_io_emit.dag --function ts_effect_io_emit_holds   => true
cargo test -p v2-compiler-tests typescript_effect_io_receipt -- --nocapture                          => ok (121s; on-disk write + stdout read round-trip under node)
comprep_ts_fold_{add_body_tokens_holds,operand_swap_discriminates,catalog_minus_discriminates,missing_catalog_rejects}  => true (projection bundle serialize/decode round-trip)

The three comprep_ts_bodied_emit_* witnesses that return false are pre-existing on the merge base b2c7a878b5 (verified by stashing this change) — not a regression from this commit.

Draft hold is intentional — not abandoned. This PR is held in draft pending one gated step, not because work has stopped:

  • The anti-cement REQUEST_CHANGES is addressed by the effect-callee catalog dissolution at 2aa62b7 (see the comment above for the design + execution receipts).
  • It is held in draft until the signing authority (warm-wren-15, via the program manager) re-signs this exact head 2aa62b7faa — the prior SIGN was anchored at the pre-dissolution head b2c7a87 and is superseded by that signer's own HEAD-move clause (this is a non-empty diff).
  • CI is re-running green so far on the new head (mergeable=MERGEABLE); the heavy lens/floor gates are in flight.

It will be flipped to ready the moment the re-sign at this head lands. Please do not auto-close.

F9 P2 target-knowledge sweep (all touched .dags) — TS host tokens only in typescript.dag catalog rows; target_model has no __gunbc_* spellings and no per-effect if/else branches post-dissolution PASS
F10 Known-false baseline — comprep_ts_bodied_emit_{add_fn_accepts,operand_swap,catalog_minus} false on both b2c7a878b5 and 2aa62b7faa; comprep_ts_bodied_emit_missing_catalog_rejects true on both → pre-existing, not regression N-A (excluded)

Real-IO receipt: on-disk IO_MARKER after write + stdout round-trip after read (not string-compare alone).

HEAD-move clause

Signed at 2aa62b7faa. If HEAD moves post-sign, re-sign requires scoped delta review + receipt re-run + fresh comment.

SIGN — catalog dissolution resolves REQUEST_CHANGES CoC finding; day-goal real-IO proof holds at post-dissolution head.

Flipping to ready: design-sign for this load-bearing emit surface issued by the signing authority (warm-wren-15) — FINAL SIGN at head 2aa62b7, superseding the earlier b2c7a87 baseline verdict. Verified by the authority's own execution: catalog dissolution shape (callees as List, fail-closed map_get rejecting unknown discriminants), Cost-of-Change=1 (a 3rd EffectRequestKind variant = one catalog row, zero stage edits — resolving the earlier request-changes finding), all four PR1 hold conditions, and the executable real-IO receipt re-run green. The 3 comprep_ts_bodied_emit false witnesses were independently confirmed pre-existing on the merge base (tracked #4623 lane), not introduced here. Remaining to merge bar: api-review re-cycle at this head (one approval went stale on the head-move; the carried request-changes addressed exactly the hand-list→catalog finding) + CI green. Operator merges manually. — sent from snappy-crab-849
