BLOCKING (2)

Root Cause

  • src/v2/05_emit_rust.dag import classification still uses global variant membership before the ItemInfo.kind partition → first partition imported names into graph types, enum types, and variant names, then emit graph types from their defining module independently of is_known_variant
  • docs/planning/v4-sg8-module-graph-carrier-reexports-worksheet-2026-05-31.md the planning artifact and implementation are landing in one change without a completed approval receipt → either split the implementation or update the worksheet with concrete approval/probe receipts before merge

⚠️ Two merge-blocking issues remain: the import fix still drops colliding graph type imports, and the worksheet’s own approval gate is unmet.

Resolved in 3ae40ffa2 (verified on current HEAD).

graph_type_imports is emitted via a dedicated partition before any is_known_variant filtering; is_graph_type_import requires TypeItem in the import-source module, so String from v4.std.text is preserved even when GoScalarKind::String exists elsewhere.

Addressed in 3ae40ffa2. Worksheet distinguishes merge gate (§8 OPEN) from #4127 co-delivery (emitter for §4 falsification only). Status is WORKSHEET COMPLETE (content), not draft.

Review responses (commit 3ae40ffa2)

Blocking: graph type imports dropped (05_emit_rust.dag ~1315)

Verified and fixed. The reviewed commit (7e8f9357) filtered variant candidates without preserving graph-type imports in top_level when the spelling collides with a global enum variant (e.g. String / GoScalarKind).

Fix (3-part partition):

  1. graph_type_imports / non_graph_imports split using is_graph_type_import(name, import_mod, registry) (TypeItem in the import-source module, not global name-only registry lookup).
  2. Variant-parent resolution prefers enums_in_import_mod before imported_enums (fixes IdentityEffect homonym: std.effects vs std.algebra).
  3. Merge import names per target module before emitting pub use (fixes duplicate SizeBound / IdentityEffect lines from multiple import statements).
  4. Parent enums are not pub-re-exported (top_with_parents = graph types + enum types only); variant parents only emit use Parent::{…} when parent_mod == import_mod.

v2-compiler builds after regen_stage0; v2_compiler_effect_derivation.rs no longer imports CollectionSizeEffect::IdentityEffect alongside IdempotencyEvidence::IdentityEffect.

Blocking: worksheet draft vs emitter in same PR (worksheet L3)

Addressed in worksheet prose: status is WORKSHEET COMPLETE (content) with §8 sign-off OPEN; mechanical dispatch rule now distinguishes merge gate (§8 required) from #4127 co-delivery (emitter present for §4 falsification probes only, same pattern as SG-RC #4100 + implementation PR collapsed for review).

Merge remains blocked on Modeling DFS §8 per checklist; co-delivery is intentional for falsification review under Target Realization dispatch.

1. Story of the diff

This PR documents SG-8 as a module/export-surface failure rather than as a pile of unresolved Rust names, then patches the live v2 Rust emitter used for the v4 M1 probe. The worksheet identifies two root causes: import emission treats every imported spelling as a possible enum variant parent from the import-site module, and generic type aliases like List<T> are classified as type declarations but emitted as nothing. The code responds by importing TypeItem, partitioning graph type imports away from variant-parent expansion, routing pub use lines through ItemInfo.module_name, grouping specific imports by module, and emitting parametric aliases via pub type Foo<T> = ...; the stage0 Rust file mirrors those .dag emitter changes. chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL (substrate vs implementation).

N/A — this is an implementation-only v2 emitter change plus a planning worksheet; it does not add or mutate substrate types, Dag storage, or new .dag library variants. The code consumes existing inference registry facts (ItemInfo.kind, ItemInfo.module_name) rather than introducing a new substrate authority. chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

  1. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md.

Finding — src/v2/05_emit_rust.dag:1409 / src/v2/stage0/src/v2_compiler_emit_rust.rs:3057: DB-8 deterministic emission. emit_imports now folds source-order imports into names_by_mod, then emits specific import blocks by iterating map_keys(names_by_mod); the generated Rust confirms this is backed by iterating v2_rt::map_keys(&names_by_mod) over a HashMap. That makes module import block order depend on map-key iteration rather than the authored import order the old imports |> map(...) path preserved, so the same semantic input can emit different Rust ordering across runs/processes. Preserve a first-seen module order while folding, or explicitly sort by a deterministic key before flat_map. chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

DB-8 requires deterministic emission: same semantic input must produce the same target output. chatgpt-review-dac90692-ff99-40…

  1. CODING.md.

Compliant — the implementation keeps the touched logic as data + free functions over explicit inputs (registry, imports, source_indices, type_summaries), not hidden state or object methods; the helper extraction around defining-module lookup and emit_specific_import_block makes the import pipeline more readable. The explanatory comments are narrow boundary comments for SG-8/F1 behavior and parent-enum scope, not prose substituting for ordinary control flow. chatgpt-review-472c0fd0-db74-48…

  1. TESTING.md.

Finding — docs/planning/v4-sg8-module-graph-carrier-reexports-worksheet-2026-05-31.md:77-81, :101, :109: required falsification receipts are not landed/accepted. The worksheet defines acceptance as probes F1–F4, the tightened brief says to rerun scripts/v4-m1-rust-emit-probe.sh and attach probe summary plus forbidden-pattern greps, and the §8 checklist still has “Falsification probes F1–F4 accepted” unchecked. This PR changes high-risk import and alias emission, but the diff does not add a test/probe artifact that would make those behavior claims hermetic and reviewable; the receipts are currently prose/manual claims. Add committed regression coverage or an accepted probe artifact for F1–F4 before merge. chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

TESTING.md’s discipline is behavior-driven, one claim per test, with full-pipeline/boundary tests appropriate when the pipeline/emitted target behavior is the subject. chatgpt-review-510608a6-2797-4e…

  1. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS.

Finding — docs/planning/v4-sg8-module-graph-carrier-reexports-worksheet-2026-05-31.md:13 / :105-110: the PR declares its own merge gate open. The new worksheet says #4127 must not merge until §10.0 content is complete and Modeling DFS Manager–approved, and the checklist added by the same PR leaves “Modeling DFS §8 sign-off” unchecked. That is not an advisory note; it is the mechanical dispatch rule for this PR. Resolve the §8 approval/checklist before landing. chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

  1. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT.

Compliant — the one explicit follow-on is bounded: TargetModuleExportSurface in v4.std.target_model, consumed when v4 06_translate owns Rust module files; the worksheet also names T-28/T-28-B/PubInPath residual context. That is a tracked bridge, not an unbounded TODO. The open §8 checklist is a merge gate covered above, not acceptable tracked debt. chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

2.5. Top-down PM intent review

Finding — PM intent is not preserved if this lands as-is. The highest relevant authority inside the PR says #4127 co-delivers code only for falsification review, does not waive §8 sign-off, and must be accepted by F1–F4 probes rather than error-count reduction. The same diff leaves the §8 checklist open and F1–F4 unaccepted, so merging now would convert a falsification-only co-delivery into an implementation approval without the required PM-level reconciliation. chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

chatgpt-review-0b393e5e-7367-4c…

3. Verdict

REQUEST_CHANGES. The systemic direction is right—derive imports from defining-module facts and emit generic aliases rather than adding shim re-exports—but the current implementation introduces nondeterministic import ordering, and the PR’s own SG-8 probe/sign-off gate remains open. Fix the ordering and land/accept the F1–F4 evidence plus §8 sign-off before merge.
