Pushing to session/vivid-deer-580 advances this PR.

Worker attestation

Before flipping this PR to ready for review, confirm each item:

  • Title describes the change (not the session id or branch).
  • PR body summarises what and why (replace the TODO below).
  • Tests run: name the command (e.g. npm test, cargo test) and the result.
  • If this closes a work item, the body contains a Closes #N directive.
  • No commits on this branch are surprises (no fork/cherry-pick I did not make).
  • No secrets / credentials / large binaries staged.

Summary

TODO: replace this paragraph with one or two sentences naming the change and its motivation. Reviewers read this first.

Test plan

  • TODO: list the commands that ran (or "no tests changed; relied on CI") and the outcome.

Bootstrap finding before ready-for-review:\n\nThe narrowed implementation still does not pass the v4 compile gate. Command:\n\ntarget/release/v2-compiler compile --source-root src/v4 --output-dir /tmp/v4-out-vivid-deer --target dag\n\nObserved behavior: indexes 119 modules and resolves 119 sources, then emits no diagnostics and becomes CPU-bound. I killed the run at ~5:00 elapsed with RSS around 6,479,104 KB.\n\nShapes tried in this session:\n- fold_node-based canonicalizer erasing Atom identity\n- shallow helper with well_formed + kind/count\n- direct exact-rule gate + root NodeKind equality + child count using the PR #3473-proven find_witness fold/control-flow shape\n\nAll hung after resolution. I am leaving this PR in draft and routing the issue as bootstrap/substrate debt rather than expanding scope into v2.

Closing as superseded by #3510.

Replacement: #3510 — sunny-newt-545's fresh-on-main predicate broadening. +6 -2 in src/v4/std/find_witness.dag (replaces the identity-only (candidate == source_facts) check with exact_structural_equality_zip_fold(source_facts, candidate) accepting distinct nodes with matching kind + child count, preserving all 4 gates: well_formed ×3, exact-rule, predicate.algebra == source_facts). Plus a new test claim file with 4 cases (distinct-node Accepted, verify_witness Accepted, wrong-arity Rejected, coercion_fold Exact).

Why this PR is being closed rather than rebased: the branch had become stale relative to PR #3473's substrate-boundary realignment merge (declared-inhabitant flattening moved from translate into std/coercion as a concept-home boundary fix). Rebasing would have buried sunny-newt-545's minimal +6 -2 substantive change in conflict-resolution noise; PR #3510 keeps the change reviewable.

Provenance trail:

  1. vivid-deer-580 (this PR's original author) authored multiple zip-fold predicate body shapes and observed them all hanging post-resolve under --target dag testing. Misattributed the hang to a substrate-design gap; surfaced finding + self-archived.

  2. quick-boar-507 was dispatched to investigate the root cause. Their RCA (PR [codex] Audit v2 DAG artifact zip-fold hang #3509, docs/audit/v2-dag-artifact-zip-fold-hang-2026-05-21.md) identified the actual issue: v2's --target dag serializer has a regression on src/v4 — recursive by-value serialization of the full typed graph doesn't scale. Hangs are present on main independent of any of this PR's changes. The --target rust path works fine. Routes as a separate v2-maintenance dispatch (B' routing).

  3. sunny-newt-545 picked up the verify cycle with the corrected picture. Confirmed vivid-deer-580's final shape was too-narrow defensive (identity-only); broadened to the proper distinct-node-zip-fold form per the original brief. Verified via --target rust (124 files / 0 diagnostics).

This PR's investigation work was the trigger for finding the v2 dag-serializer regression — preserved as provenance via this closing comment.

BLOCKING (1)

Root Cause

  • src/v4/std/find_witness.dag find_witness is accepting witnesses before a real recursive canonical Node comparator/content-hash fold is consumed → implement the zip-fold over children and edge labels, or keep this predicate rejected until that canonical equality surface lands.

⚠️ The PR closes the scaffold with an under-checking witness predicate, so it can fabricate successful coercions for structurally different groundings.

BLOCKING: The new exact structural equality zip-fold only compares the root kind and child count, so Conj field labels and all child facts can differ while find_witness still accepts, contradicting THESIS/INVARIANTS P1-P2 and the T-9 coercion-fold contract that the fold walks canonical Node groundings in parallel.
