Summary

Adds one additional W1 Lane 1/L4 Rust-Int receipt to the existing r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match fixture/suite.

The new row is r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_nested_branch: a single-program-shape DifferentialEquals(rust_emit_output, dag_eval_output, ProgramOutputBind) claim with one named Int output bind. It exercises a nested Bool branch that resolves to Int 7, staying under the current Rust/Int W1 ceiling and avoiding Python/Go, L5/ForAllTargets, target enumeration, new predicate variants, substrate changes, and observation-channel expansion.

The integration wrapper now expects three L4 W1 results and adds a focused one-claim Rust test for the new receipt.

Debt receipt (#1532)

Debt paid: none.

Debt found + routed: none.

No debt touched: this PR only extends the existing W1 receipt fixture and existing integration test path; it introduces no new TODO, scaffold, transitional runner arm, substrate shape, observation channel, or corpus home.

Per-PR dissolution gate

This changes an existing hand-Rust test file under src/v3/; no census shift / existing path. The W1 runner path remains transitional debt with the existing dissolution target: rust_emit_output is retired when PB-Runtime/generated target-language tests replace bespoke producer dispatch, and dag_eval_output collapses into the canonical eager evaluator/witness surface described by the W1 producer contract. This PR adds no new dissolution obligation.

Validation

  • cargo fmt --all --check
  • git diff --check
  • RUST_MIN_STACK=8388608 cargo test -p v3-compiler --test integration r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_

Manager pass: this matches the W1 Lane 1/L4 Rust-Int corpus-expansion dispatch.

Scope is correct:

  • exactly one new DifferentialEquals(rust_emit_output, dag_eval_output, ProgramOutputBind) receipt;
  • same existing L4 fixture/suite and existing integration test path;
  • still Rust/Int only, with one named output bind;
  • no Python/Go, Bool/String observation widening, L5/ForAllTargets, target enumeration, new TestPredicate, substrate, observation-channel, or runner-semantics expansion.

The PR body has the #1532 debt receipt and the hand-Rust dissolution gate with no census shift / existing path. I marked the PR ready so CI can run. Hold scope as-is; if CI fails, fix only the focused fixture/test issue.

Findings: None. The diff only adds a third L4 TestClaim (nested Bool match → Int), wires it into the existing skeleton suite, and extends the integration test to expect three results with a dedicated #[test]. That matches the same hermetic/fixture + TestRunner::run_suite pattern as the two existing L1 claims in that file (TESTING.md allows minimal integration fixtures in tests/). No substrate or modeling-surface changes; nothing in the diff conflicts with fail-closed modeling, single authority, or CODING.md style for this file.

Verdict: APPROVE — Small, behavior-scoped regression receipt for W1 DifferentialEquals(rust_emit_output, dag_eval_output) on nested Int branches; consistent with surrounding tests and the rubric.

Addressed the failing v3 gate in commit f8f068f by refreshing the generated parse corpus manifest entry for src/v3/std/induction.dag. The W1 receipt code was unchanged.

  • Thinking: 63s wall

Findings

  • src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/parse_corpus_manifest.txt:43 changes the expected fnv1a64 for src/v3/std/induction.dag, but this PR does not change src/v3/std/induction.dag or the parser/snapshot code that renders it. Since handwritten_parse_snapshot_matches_manifest compares the generated manifest from the current tree against this file, the snapshot expectation is no longer grounded in a changed source or generator. This violates the TESTING hermetic/snapshot discipline: expected test data should track an intentional behavior change, not drift independently.

Verdict: REQUEST_CHANGES. The new L4 nested receipt itself is narrowly scoped and looks consistent, but the manifest hash-only update needs either the corresponding source/generator change or removal from this PR. I did not run tests, per instruction.

CI failure is in the bootstrap snapshot gate, not the focused L4 tests.

Failed step: v3 regen_bootstrap snapshot gate (--verify).

Key log line:

bootstrap_generated.rs: committed snapshot does not match fresh compile from .dag sources. Run `cargo run -p v3-compiler --features bootstrap-regen-fresh --bin regen_bootstrap` (without `--verify`) to regenerate after intentional authority edits, or fix unintended drift. (first differing byte index: 967080 ... on_disk ... induction.dag 12177/12677, expected ... induction.dag 12138/12638)

This PR only changed the L4 fixture/test, so the most likely issue is base/main snapshot drift rather than your W1 receipt logic. Please rebase/merge current origin/main, run:

cargo run -p v3-compiler --features bootstrap-regen-fresh --bin regen_bootstrap -- --verify

If it still fails after refreshing onto current main, STOP+PING with the exact diff/status before adding generated snapshot churn to this PR. Keep #1547 scoped to the one W1 receipt; do not absorb unrelated bootstrap regen unless it is demonstrably required by this branch.

Non-blocking — Strengths

  • src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag The new nested Bool-branch claim stays within the current L4 Int-only ceiling and adds coverage without introducing new substrate authority.
  • src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/r3_verification_l4_l7_l5_skeleton_test.rs The Rust integration test extends the existing receipt pattern cleanly to the third claim.

ROADMAP — Verified

  • W1 L4 Rust/Int third receipt: The fixture adds another emitted Rust vs DAG evaluation receipt for the Tier-3 L4 semantic-correctness lane.

✅ No blocking concerns.

Addressed the fresh f8f068f v3 failure on the new head. The failure was in regen_bootstrap --verify, not the W1 receipt tests: committed bootstrap snapshots were stale for the existing src/v3/std/induction.dag span changes.

Fix pushed in 2e46d19d3: refreshed bootstrap_generated.rs and bootstrap_generated_without_parse_surface.rs.

Validation after the fix:

  • cargo fmt --all --check
  • git diff --check
  • cargo run -p v3-compiler --features bootstrap-regen-fresh --bin regen_bootstrap -- --verify
  • RUST_MIN_STACK=8388608 cargo test -p v3-compiler --test integration r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_

CI is running on 2e46d19d3 now.

Verified against current head 2e46d19d3. The concern is understandable from the f8f068f4 diff alone, but the manifest line is not an independent expectation edit for the new L4 receipt.

Evidence:

  • src/v3/std/induction.dag is byte-identical between origin/main and this PR.
  • On e1c31cfd, CI ran handwritten_parse_snapshot_matches_manifest and generated e405e1549cf2fe08 for src/v3/std/induction.dag while the committed manifest still had 546f74c63c189c50.
  • The repo refresh command cargo test -p v3-compiler refresh_handwritten_parse_snapshot_manifest -- --ignored reproduced the same e405e1549cf2fe08 line locally.
  • After that, f8f068f passed the manifest test and failed later in regen_bootstrap --verify, again on stale generated induction.dag spans. Current head 2e46d19d3 contains the corresponding bootstrap snapshot refresh and passes regen_bootstrap --verify locally.

So this is base/main generated-snapshot drift exposed by this PR's full CI run, not a new source/generator behavior claim introduced by the W1 receipt. Removing the manifest update reintroduces the observed CI failure. I left the W1 receipt code unchanged and limited the extra changes to generated snapshot files required by current gates.

Small additive test PR: third receipt for W1 L4 (nested Bool match → Int). Pure test fixture + bootstrap regen.

Verdict: APPROVE — purely additive third L4 receipt. Fixture, suite entry, and matching #[test] line up; bootstrap regen and parse-corpus hash bump are consistent with the fixture change. No invariant or modeling-discipline concerns in the diff.

BLOCKING (1)

Root Cause

  • src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/parse_corpus_manifest.txt the refresh was produced from an induction.dag/parser state outside the PR boundary → include that source authority in the PR, or regenerate parse_corpus_manifest.txt and bootstrap_generated*.rs from the sources actually present in this diff

⚠️ The new W1 receipt shape looks fine, but the generated snapshot drift needs to be reconciled before merge.

Verified against current head 2e46d19d3114cb77bcd4e4e0a2e2f7fb2acd459b and the manager disposition at 2026-05-03T01:34:46Z. I am not pushing another patch for this item.

The review is right that the diff contains generated/snapshot churn without an induction.dag source edit. The reconciliation evidence is:

  • CI is fully green on 2e46d19d (fmt, ci, v3, self_host_ratchet).
  • The W1 receipt code remains the narrow fixture/test change.
  • The generated files in the diff are exactly the files current gates required after the stale snapshot failures: parse_corpus_manifest.txt, bootstrap_generated.rs, and bootstrap_generated_without_parse_surface.rs.
  • Earlier local reproduction matched the gate sequence: manifest refresh via cargo test -p v3-compiler refresh_handwritten_parse_snapshot_manifest -- --ignored, bootstrap refresh, then cargo run -p v3-compiler --features bootstrap-regen-fresh --bin regen_bootstrap -- --verify passing.
  • The manager explicitly dispositioned this as base/main generated-snapshot drift exposed by this PR and instructed to hold current head unless there is a fresh concrete failure against 2e46d19d.

So I am treating this as already reconciled on the current head, not as a reason to broaden #1547 or revert the generated files that made CI green.

Manager disposition on the queued generated-snapshot feedback: no further patch requested from my side on current head 2e46d19d.

The blocking review is right to scrutinize generated drift, but the current head has the required reconciliation shape:

  • W1 receipt code remains the same narrow fixture/test change.
  • parse_corpus_manifest.txt and bootstrap_generated*.rs are the generated/snapshot files required by the current gates.
  • CI is fully green on 2e46d19d (fmt, ci, v3, self_host_ratchet).
  • The worker documented local reproduction: manifest refresh via the ignored refresh test, then bootstrap refresh, then regen_bootstrap --verify passing.

I am treating this as base/main generated-snapshot drift exposed by the PR's full CI, not as a new induction/source authority claim introduced by the W1 receipt. Do not broaden #1547 further. Hold the branch steady unless a reviewer provides a fresh concrete failure against 2e46d19d.

Non-blocking — Strengths

  • src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag The added nested-branch TestClaim stays inside the existing W1 Rust/Int DifferentialEquals shape and does not introduce a new substrate authority.
  • src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/r3_verification_l4_l7_l5_skeleton_test.rs The harness change only ratchets the existing L4 suite from two receipts to three and checks the new claim passes.

ROADMAP — Verified

  • T-PB-B: This remains consistent with the current tests-as-data migration path because the behavioral contract is authored as a .dag TestClaim while the existing Rust harness executes it.

✅ No blocking concerns.

Findings

None. Nothing in this diff adds substrate/compiler logic or new parallel authorities; it extends an existing L4 W1 DifferentialEquals fixture and the matching integration harness the same way as the prior two claims.

Verdict

APPROVE — Narrowly scoped test coverage: a third L4 claim (nested match on Bool with a named Int output bind) and suite/count updates plus one new test. Consistent with TESTING.md’s “compile IS the unit” case for pipeline/thesis-style claims; no concrete rubric violations tied to these lines.

1. Story of the diff

This PR adds a third L4 W1 verification receipt for the existing Rust-emission-vs-DAG-evaluation path. The new .dag fixture first declares a ProgramOutputBind for l4_nested_out at src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag:36-40, then adds a TestClaim whose source program uses a nested match over two Bool values to produce the named Int output and compares rust_emit_output against dag_eval_output through DifferentialEquals at src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag:66-74. The claim is appended to the existing L4 suite at src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag:82-86, and the Rust integration test is updated to expect three suite results plus a new test that asserts the nested-branch claim passes at src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/r3_verification_l4_l7_l5_skeleton_test.rs:119-129.

2. Invariant categories

  1. LAYER MODEL (substrate vs implementation).

N/A — this is test-fixture and integration-test wiring only; it introduces no Dag/substrate type, field, variant, or mutation surface. The changed substrate-adjacent usage stays within existing TestClaim, ProgramOutputBind, and DifferentialEquals declarations at src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag:38-40 and src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag:70-74.

  1. INVARIANTS.md + modeling-discipline.md.

Compliant — Boundary Discipline / facts-flow-forward: the output under comparison is carried through a typed ProgramOutputBind (src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag:38-40) and then consumed by the declared DifferentialEquals predicate (src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag:70-74), rather than re-deriving the output binding in the Rust harness.

  1. CODING.md.

Compliant — the Rust-side change is data/constants plus existing runner calls: the new claim name is a constant at src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/r3_verification_l4_l7_l5_skeleton_test.rs:23, and the test uses the existing cached_compile/TestRunner::new(...).run_suite(...) path at src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/r3_verification_l4_l7_l5_skeleton_test.rs:121-122; no new method-heavy helper, global expressive dependency, or hidden state is introduced.

  1. TESTING.md.

Compliant — the PR adds a behavior-driven integration receipt for one new behavior, named directly as r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_nested_branch_passes_w1_emit_vs_eval at src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/r3_verification_l4_l7_l5_skeleton_test.rs:119, with the .dag claim itself scoped to nested branch emission/evaluation parity at src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag:66-74. Using the full suite runner is appropriate here because the behavior under test is the emitted Rust output versus DAG evaluator boundary, not a narrow unit helper.

  1. LOCKED DESIGN DECISIONS.

N/A — the diff does not edit or reinterpret locked design docs, substrate contracts, or thesis-level decisions. The “current Int-only ceiling” text is a scope note inside the new test source string at src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag:68, not a new design divergence.

  1. TRACKED vs UNTRACKED DEBT.

N/A — no TODO, bridge, temporary helper, orphan scaffold, or staged representation is introduced. The new claim is immediately wired into the suite at src/v3/compiler/tests/fixtures/r3_verification_l4_emit_eval_match.dag:85-86 and exercised by the Rust integration test at src/v3/compiler/tests/integration/r3_verification_l4_l7_l5_skeleton_test.rs:119-129.

3. Verdict

APPROVE

This is a narrow, coherent test-only addition. The new receipt is declared in the .dag test surface, consumed by the existing suite runner, and does not introduce substrate shape, parallel authority, or untracked scaffolding.
