Summary

  • updates the Verification Manager brief from 2 lanes + 1 ledger gate to 3 lanes + 1 ledger gate per merged r3-structure authority
  • adds the new Lane 3 T-Free-Consequences-Demonstration standby worker brief
  • updates the TC bundle header to remain absorbed cross-cutting responsibility, not a fourth Verification lane

Scope Notes

This is docs-only follow-up to the landed r3-structure scope expansion. It does not edit r3-structure.md, r2-closure-ledger.md, substrate, or author docs/design-free-consequences.md. The new worker brief frames design authoring as allowed now and TestClaim implementation as gated on Lens, R2-Evaluator witness construction, and T-CostLens-Composition.

Verification

  • git diff --check
  • pre-push cargo fmt --all --check

Findings: None. The diff is documentation only (docs/briefs/*.md): a new Lane 3 worker brief and edits to the verification manager + TC bundle brief so they match 3 lanes + 1 ledger gate and T-Free-Consequences-Demonstration. That matches docs/r3-structure.md on this HEAD (same as origin/main for that file—the lane row and Manager structure Item 2 are already there), so there is no internal doc drift introduced by this PR. The new brief stays in PROPOSAL / standby, defers implementation, forbids substrate edits from the brief, routes substrate facts through INVARIANTS §P1 / Substrate Manager, and names concrete prerequisites and gate IDs—nothing here contradicts fail-closed, boundary discipline, or modeling practice in a way that applies to non-substrate markdown. CODING.md / TESTING.md do not apply to these paths. INVARIANTS P5 paired-dispatch targets briefs that introduce scaffolds (hand-Rust, sentinels, mirrors); this change does not add those.

Verdict: APPROVE — Narrowly scoped authoring briefs; consistent with structural authority; no rubric violations tied to lines in this diff.

Manager review — APPROVE; clean Lane 3 expansion + new worker brief

Strong execution; hits every dispatch requirement.

Manager brief consolidation (r3-verification-manager.md)

  • Header: "2 lanes" → "3 lanes + 1 ledger gate" with cite to r3-structure.md §"Manager structure" Item 2 ✓
  • Lane 3 row added with size S-M, standby status linking to new worker brief, gates-on column citing R2-Evaluator + R2-T-Substrate-Lens-Primitive + T-CostLens-Composition ✓
  • Absorbed-responsibility section parenthetical: "NOT a third owned lane" → "NOT a fourth owned lane" ✓
  • §"Cross-program dependencies" §"Produces" + §"Consumes" extended to cover Lane 3 ✓
  • §"Acceptance" Lane 3 row added with full 10-gate enumeration (preserves verbatim names per r3-structure.md L92) ✓
  • Sub-briefs section reframed as "Authored / maintained" (more accurate post-spawn) + Lane 3 brief added ✓
  • Working state initial-state line: "2 lanes" → "3 lanes" ✓
  • Cross-refs Parent line extended to include T-Free-Consequences ✓

NEW worker brief (r3-v-free-consequences-worker.md, ~134 lines)

  • User directive cited verbatim ("what guarantees does the compiler ACTUALLY provide - i expect a small doc/testcases") ✓
  • Two deliverables enumerated (design doc + 10-gate suite) with explicit research-design-tier/standby split ✓
  • Lens algebra (load-bearing) — auto-parallelism = Lens<Bind-Independence>·Lens<Cost>; auto-memoization = Lens<Purity>·Lens<Cost> (with explicit "Runtime memoization of lens fold is one instance of this same primitive, not a separate framework feature" — Director's memoization framing folded in correctly); cross-target = Lens<Cost>·LanguageSpec (with the load-bearing nuance "not 'each target emits identical syntax'; target-specific choices preserve cost/semantic relation under language-spec facts"); space-bound CX = R1-closed-reference (cite, don't re-derive) ✓
  • Loop-iteration parallelism: sequential default + opt-in via Lens<Iteration-Independence> (zero-heuristic; mirrors Lens<Bind-Independence>); explicit "no heuristic loop parallelization path" framing; anchors the 3 auto_loop_parallelism gates ✓
  • Memoization framing: lens-fold caching subsumed as instance of auto-memoization primitive; "Do not create a parallel 'lens framework caching' lane or a bespoke cache policy gate" — exact dissolution discipline. Anchors the 2 auto_memoization gates ✓
  • 10-gate enumeration verbatim from r3-structure.md ✓
  • Standby-state framing clean: design-free-consequences.md authoring CAN start now; TestClaim authoring waits on substrate ✓
  • Acceptance: BOTH deliverables required ("Partial design analysis, seed fixtures, or a subset of green gates do not close the lane") ✓
  • Discipline: no substrate edits; INVARIANTS §P1 routing; cross-claim coordination signal with active substrate queue (Lens<DagShapeReport> producer + BinaryDimensionReportEquals + BridgeLedger pair) ✓
  • Out-of-scope explicit: no design-free-consequences.md authoring in THIS PR; no TestPredicate variants; no TC bundle reclassification ✓

TC bundle minor edit (r3-v-formal-grounding-tc-bundle.md)

  • Status header: "NOT a third owned lane" → "NOT a fourth owned lane" + "3 lanes + 1 ledger gate" cite ✓
  • Otherwise unchanged (per dispatch instruction) ✓

Constraints respected

  • No substrate edits ✓
  • No r3-structure.md / r2-closure-ledger.md / r3-pb-t-fixedpoint-worker.md edits ✓
  • No design-free-consequences.md authoring in this PR ✓
  • Single-authority discipline: defers to r3-structure.md "3 lanes + 1 ledger gate" count over Director dispatch text ✓
  • Single bundled PR per feedback_bundle_workstreams_per_pr.md ✓

Manager observations

  • Discipline note from your worker brief §"Discipline" ("If Lens<Bind-Independence>, Lens<Iteration-Independence>, Lens<Purity>, or Lens<Cost> reveal shared DimensionReport<C> framing questions with TC1/TC2/TC3 unified-predicate authoring, surface that to the Verification Manager / Director before proposing a substrate shape") matches the cross-claim coordination pattern that's been load-bearing across this session — useful for design-free-consequences.md authoring follow-up.

Status: approved. Lane 3 standby state ready; design-free-consequences.md authoring is the next dispatchable slice (research-tier, can start now without substrate prerequisites). Will queue that as a follow-up dispatch when bandwidth available.

BLOCKING (1)

Root Cause

  • docs/briefs/r3-v-free-consequences-worker.md The lane conflates CX termination/cost closure with the separate deferred space-bound dimension → either cite the actual R1 closure receipt here or demote space-bound CX to a deferred/non-guarantee reference until the space lens exists.

⚠️ One blocking docs issue remains because the new guarantee lane would otherwise author tests/docs from an unsupported premise.

Verdict: APPROVE

Docs-only diff is consistent with the pinned rubric. The new Lane 3 brief is bounded, names prerequisites and dissolution/acceptance conditions, avoids authorizing substrate edits, and preserves the fail-closed stance on space-bound guarantees by not presenting unmodeled space proofs as current capability. I found no concrete modeling, coding, or testing-discipline violations in the changed lines.

I did not run tests; this PR only updates planning/brief documentation.

Docs-only PR, no code. Brief authoring is explicitly scoped as standby; out-of-scope items are spelled out clearly.

Verdict: APPROVE — Docs-only Lane 3 brief authoring. No substrate edits, no code changes, no new types or predicates introduced. The brief is consistent with parent manager doc updates, names dependencies (Lens<C>, R2-Evaluator witnesses, T-CostLens-Composition), preserves the "space bound proofs NOT STARTED" status rather than overclaiming, and explicitly excludes substrate edits and gate wiring. No INVARIANTS / modeling / coding / testing violations observable in this diff.

BLOCKING (1)

Root Cause

  • docs/briefs/r3-v-free-consequences-worker.md Parallelism witness inputs omit the effect-lens authority → require Effect/commutativity evidence inside Bind-Independence and Iteration-Independence, or add explicit effectful-no-parallel gates before dispatch.

⚠️ One blocking guarantee-scope gap remains before this brief should drive tests or implementation.

BLOCKING: Auto-parallelism is scoped to Bind-Independence·Cost, but the active parallelism-safety design makes effect/commutativity evidence load-bearing, so this suite can certify unsafe parallel emission for effectful binds.

Findings (if any):

  • docs/briefs/r3-v-free-consequences-worker.md:86-97 — The section tells readers to preserve gate names “exactly” from docs/r3-structure.md, but gate 10 is listed as cross_target_optimization_cost_structurally_derived while the T-Free-Consequences-Demonstration row in docs/r3-structure.md (lane table) still names cross_target_optimization_cost_proportional. That is two different identifiers for the same slot until the structure doc is updated, which cuts against P2: Boundary Discipline / single-authority naming (and the doc’s own “exactly” instruction). Same identifier appears in docs/briefs/r3-verification-manager.md in the new Lane 3 acceptance bullet (long line ending in cross_target_optimization_cost_structurally_derived).

Verdict: APPROVE_WITH_COMMENTS — The Lane 3 brief and manager updates are coherent with r3-structure.md §“Manager structure” (3 lanes + 1 ledger gate), explicit standby/out-of-scope, INVARIANTS §P1 routing for substrate work, and careful “don’t claim space bounds / don’t fake guarantees” framing. Resolve the gate-name authority mismatch by either updating the lane row in docs/r3-structure.md in the same naming PR, or rewording “exactly” here to cite the ratified rename (e.g. #1341) until the structure table catches up.

Exploratory observations (optional):

  • The worker brief’s auto-parallelism product (Lens<Effect-Commutativity> etc.) is a deliberate refinement of the one-line summary in r3-structure.md; nothing in this diff requires changing that, but a future structure-doc edit could align the summary row with the effect-safety story to avoid two “headline” formulas.

Docs-only PR adding a standby brief and updating the parent manager brief consistently.

Verdict: APPROVE — docs-only Lane 3 expansion. The new brief is properly scoped as standby (no substrate edits, prerequisites named, out-of-scope list explicit), the parent manager brief updates lane count consistently from "2 lanes + 1 ledger gate" to "3 lanes + 1 ledger gate," and the TC bundle brief's "NOT a third lane" → "NOT a fourth lane" rewording is internally consistent. Nothing in the diff touches code, substrate, or invariants.

Review complete. The diff is three markdown files: a new Lane 3 worker brief and small cross-references in the TC bundle brief and verification manager brief. No Rust, substrate, or tests.

Findings: None that tie a concrete invariant violation to a diff line. The new brief’s Acceptance and Standby sections name close criteria and prerequisites (docs/briefs/r3-v-free-consequences-worker.md:101-114, 116-125), explicitly forbids substrate edits from this lane (127-129), routes substrate work through P1 / Substrate Manager (130-131), and avoids presenting unfinished space work as shipped guarantees (50-54) — consistent with fail-closed / dissolution framing for planning docs. Nothing here imposes new substrate types or parallel Rust authority.

Verdict: APPROVE — Narrowly scoped documentation; no diff-grounded breach of INVARIANTS.md, modeling-discipline.md, CODING.md, or TESTING.md.

Exploratory (optional): docs/briefs/r3-v-free-consequences-worker.md:36 gives auto-parallelism as Lens<Bind-Independence>·Lens<Effect-Commutativity>·Lens<Cost> while the lane cell in docs/r3-structure.md (outside this diff) still compresses to Bind-Independence·Cost. If both are meant to stay canonical, a future structure-doc tweak might spell the effect lens in the table; if the brief is the deliberate refinement, a single sentence pointing at that would silence cross-doc drift questions.
