This roadmap is not set in stone - we may always decide to defer a problematic feature to a later release, or bring something forward if we are provided with patches. It is supposed to give an overview and a basis for discussions of the future development of Gluon.
- Support Ralink/Mediatek-based WLAN adapters
- Decreased use of UCI for protocol-specific configuration
- Rewrite autoupdater in C
- Add support for segmentation of MLD/IGMP domains and batman-adv's multicast optimization
- See https://github.com/freifunk-gluon/gluon/milestones/2016.2 for issues to be solved for Gluon 2016.2
- Scheduled for June 2016
- Integration of a new configuration system more suitable for Gluon than UCI (NeoRaider's GSoC project)
- Experimental support for the Babel routing protocol with l3roamd
- New respondd protocol? (based on CoAP?)
- Support for NetJSON?
- Migration to LEDE project (depending on LEDE release schedule)
- Scheduled for September~November 2016
- Mesh-independent autoupdater
- New network setup based on network namespaces (for better separation of mesh and WAN on the nodes)
- Issues we hope to solve by using network namespaces: https://github.com/freifunk-gluon/gluon/milestones/network-rewrite
- Scheduled for early 2017
