Release life cycle
The Gluon maintainers are releasing new versions on an irregular schedule, depending on the state of the master branch concerning the stability of new features and OpenWrt updates.
Minor releases appear in each of the supported branches on a regular basis, carrying backported fixes and updates to the OpenWrt base (kernel updates and bugfixes).
The support for a release usually ends some time after the next major release. Exceptions to the rule do exist.

When migrating, one should be aware of the following issues and avoid/skip the exact versions for affected devices:
- before v2020.1 UBNT Edgerouter X/X-SFP might soft-brick - see also the gluon issue
- releases before v2021.1.2 are affected of CVE-2022-24884 and can be upgraded with signatures of all zero
- v2021.1.1/v2021.1.2 Joy-IT OR 750i can not upgrade
- v2023.1.1 soft-bricks FB7520/FB7530
- v2022.1 up to v2023.1.2/v2023.2.1 WDR4300 and WDR3600 hang occasionally at boot
If you try to build old versions you might encounter git://github.com/
URLs. Those won't work as GitHub discontinued support for the git protocol in 2022. You can use the following command to replace them automatically:
git config --global 'url.https://github.com/.insteadOf' 'git://github.com/'
