This PR changes the Cake dense_projection_det_gemm package in flashinfer.experimental, the deterministic dense projection GEMM. The package has BF16-operand forward, dgrad and wgrad programs and an FP32 router GEMM. The router GEMM has three layouts: forward (kk, 4 split-K partitions by default), input gradient (kn, 1) and weight gradient (nn_t, 6). Each router launch splits the second operand into BF16x3, runs the program and sums the split-K partials. If the caller passes no splits, the router weight gradient gets its split-K count from ROUTER_SPLIT_RULES. Before this PR, that table had 8 entries. They cover 256 experts (N = 256) and T 16129 to 16384 on sm_100a and sm_103a at 148 and 152 SMs. Hidden size 5120 used 9 splits, and hidden size 6144 used 3 splits. This PR removes the 4 hidden-size-6144 entries, so those shapes go back to the default of 6 splits. The 4 hidden-size-5120 entries keep 9 splits. Nothing else in planning changes, and no kernel source or compiled library changes. The 3-split value was picked on an idle GPU, where it is 1.2 to 2.9 % faster than 6 splits. In training, a kernel on another stream often holds some SMs, for example a communication kernel. In that case 3 splits loses. In one measured cell it was 1.38x slower than 6 splits. With this PR, the idle-GPU rows are 1.2 to 2.8 % slower. We accept that cost because the change removes the large loss under SM sharing.

Speedup of this PR over the previous Cake version on main. Values are previous / this PR, so a value above 1 means this PR is faster. The previous version used 3 splits at hidden size 6144. The timed launch is the whole router weight-gradient call: the BF16x3 split, the program and the sum of partials. Isolated means an idle GPU with cold L2, taking the median over passes. Co-run means another stream holds 8, 16 or 32 SMs. Co-run values are the geometric mean over eager and CUDA graph launches and three launch orders. Both sides are paired in every pass and run. All runs use CUDA 13.4 and FP32 output. The GPUs are GB200 (sm_100a, 152 SMs), GB300 (sm_103a, 152 SMs), B200 (sm_100a, 148 SMs) and B300 (sm_103a, 148 SMs). The layer is 6144→256 with T 16129, 16231 and 16384, which gives 12 rows. Isolated, this PR scores 0.972-0.988x, so it is 1.2-2.8 % slower. With 8 SMs held, it scores 0.973-1.209x. That is 1.18-1.21x faster on the 148-SM parts and 2-3 % slower on the 152-SM parts. With 16 SMs held it scores 1.067-1.165x, and with 32 SMs held it scores 1.061-1.095x.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Updates
    • Adjusted dense projection routing for selected GPU configurations and token ranges. Affected 6144-hidden-size shapes now use the default split count, while applicable 5120-hidden-size shapes retain a split count of 9.
    • Updated the documented routing rules to reflect the configuration changes.

…gradient rule at H 6144

The 3-split count of the FP32 router weight gradient at H 6144 (T 16129-16384, N 256, sm_100a and sm_103a at
148 / 152 SMs) was chosen on an idle GPU, where it is 1-3 % faster than the default 6 splits. With a kernel on
another stream holding 8, 16 or 32 SMs, as a communication kernel does in training, a single measurement of it
runs up to 1.38x slower than 6 splits, and 6 splits is 1.06-1.17x faster with 16 or 32 SMs held (geometric
mean per token count on GB200, GB300, B200 and B300).

- H 6144: back to the default 6 splits on sm_100a and sm_103a (the four table keys are removed).
- H 5120 keeps 9 splits: faster than 6 splits alone and, as a geometric mean, with 8, 16 or 32 SMs held.
- The CPU rule test pins every table key and its count.
- Two router tests that run on CPU stand-ins now also stand in the device facts: they asked device 0
whether it supports programmatic dependent launch and failed on a host without a GPU.

The H 6144 rows change bits back to the default count's partition; they stay bit-exact run to run and keep the
router accuracy budget.

Walkthrough

The router weight-gradient split rules remove H=6144 overrides for sm_100a and sm_103a. H=5120 rules remain at 9 splits. The tests check those rules and supply device facts to router test fixtures.

The H=6144 overrides for sm_100a and sm_103a are removed, so those cases use the default 6 splits. The H=5120 rules remain at 9 splits. The documentation and tests reflect the rules. Router test fixtures now provide DeviceFacts for sm_100a with 148 SMs and L2_BYTES.

Test the removed H=6144 windows.

The resolver test now iterates only over H=5120 entries. A resolver special case that returns three for H=6144 would pass it. Assert six for the removed device windows independently of the table.
