esp-wifi

• fix Code fails to compile on latest main esp-wifi-sys#57 (comment)

  • done in Make utils feature independent of embedded-svc feature esp-wifi-sys#64

• replaced the old toy BLE stack with another toy BLE stack

  • still used as git dependency but I plan to publish that stack on crates.io

• now using wpa-supplicant compiled in size optimized mode

  • not really much smaller (few kB) but at least a little bit

• implemented solution for Improve the Preemt-Code to allow stack size per task esp-wifi-sys#9

  • experienced big trouble with different optimization levels (Xtensa)
  • solution doesn't work on ESP32-S2 (while it's a minimal code change) in opt-level 3 - but works with "s"
    • I can reproduce this by just moving two statics to a different source file!
  • BUT opt-level "s" breaks the BLE example for ESP32
  • no idea how to track this down since the overall code-base is huge including lots of pre-compiled C code

• adapt to a fix in esp-hal
  - Adapt to the changed trap frame for ESP32-C3 esp-wifi-sys#69

esp-hal

• checked Panic during interrupt handling in esp32c3 timer_interrupt.rs example esp-hal#196

  • seems RV32 might have problems with opt-level "z", "s" seems to work fine
  • seems to be a problem in LLVM
  • user created a PR to let users know about the issue: Check for opt-level="z" in build.rs, provide feedback about dangers esp-hal#198

• tried to reproduce a problem regarding I2C when trying to use MPU6050 reported on Matrix

  • user opened an issue calling write_read with an empty write buffer repeatedly retries I2C reads esp-hal#201 - not sure if that is related
  • I orderd an MPU6050 break-out board just in case
  • seems the user was able to solve the problem - worth looking into that issue anyways

• looking into another issue mentioned on Matrix regarding Embassy on ESP32-C3

  • turned out we had an unfortunate implementation of interrupt handling
  • Fix ESP32-C3 interrupt/exception handling esp-hal#207
    • also needed a fix for riscv-atomic-emulation-trap
