Description

Currently, we use a magic value ("/") for apiVersion to remove the version segment from the final URL. This approach is not clear or self-explanatory.

This PR introduces an explicit configuration option to the backend API request builder. This is internal and to control whether the API version segment is included in the request URL path. BAPI proxy requests does not have versioning in the url and use the Clerk-API-Version header instead.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

This change introduces explicit configuration for API version handling in the backend client request builder. A new skipApiVersionInUrl boolean option is added to the request builder, allowing certain API clients to omit the API version segment from their request URLs and instead rely on a version header. The construction of the API client object is reorganized, with updated instantiation for apiKeys, machineTokens, and idPOAuthAccessToken to use the new option. Two new API clients, jwks and jwtTemplates, are added. No changes are made to exported function signatures. A changeset documents these updates.

63-72: New API clients added and configuration updated correctly.

The addition of jwks and jwtTemplates clients follows the established pattern. The machineTokens client correctly adopts the new explicit configuration.

However, the reordering of instance and invitations properties appears arbitrary and isn't mentioned in the PR objectives. While not breaking, consider whether this reordering is intentional and necessary.

🔇 Additional comments (6)
packages/backend/src/api/request.ts (3)

60-68: Excellent documentation and type definition.

The new skipApiVersionInUrl property is well-documented with comprehensive JSDoc, includes proper default value annotation, and clearly explains its purpose for bapi-proxy endpoints.

79-79: Proper destructuring with consistent default value.

The destructuring follows the established pattern and the default value matches the JSDoc documentation.

87-87: Correct conditional URL construction logic.

The ternary operator correctly implements the intended behavior: omitting API version from URL when skipApiVersionInUrl is true, while maintaining backward compatibility.

packages/backend/src/api/factory.ts (2)

46-51: Consistent application of new configuration option.

The apiKeys API client correctly uses the new skipApiVersionInUrl: true option, replacing the previous approach with explicit configuration.

57-62: Consistent configuration update.

The idPOAuthAccessToken client correctly adopts the new explicit configuration approach.

.changeset/tender-shrimps-admire.md (1)

1-5: Well-formatted changeset with accurate description.

The changeset correctly identifies this as a patch-level change and provides a clear, concise description of the internal refactoring for API version handling.
