Summary

Leonardo image and video generation both fail on every request. Two commits, one per surface.

Images (ce3be09269)

Every leonardo/* image request fails with HTTP 500 internal error. Leonardo's v1 generations API (POST /api/rest/v1/generations) takes a platform-model UUID as modelId, and the handler sent the catalog id (phoenix, sdxl) as-is. Leonardo answers that with 500 {"error":"internal error","path":"$","code":"unexpected"}, which OmniRoute passes through.

The fix maps the two catalog ids to their platform-model UUIDs (from GET /api/rest/v1/platformModels):

Catalog id Leonardo model UUID
phoenix (also the default) Phoenix 1.0 de7d3faf-762f-48e0-b3b7-9d0ac3a3fcf3
sdxl SDXL 1.0 16e7060a-803e-4df3-97ee-edcfa5dc9cc8

Any other value, such as a raw Leonardo model UUID, passes through unchanged, so leonardo/<uuid> can reach any Leonardo model. The handler also takes an optional pollIntervalMs (default 5000, unchanged) so the test does not wait 5 s per poll.

Video (aa20051c3f)

The video handler posted an image-generation body (modelId: "phoenix", num_frames: 24) to the image endpoint /generations. Leonardo rejects it with 400 {"error":"Unexpected variable num_frames"}, so Leonardo video has never worked. Even with a valid model it would have returned generated_images[0].url, which on a video generation is a jpg thumbnail.

The handler now follows Leonardo's text-to-video API:

  • submit to POST /api/rest/v1/generations-text-to-video with model, prompt, resolution, width, height, isPublic: false;
  • read motionVideoGenerationJob.generationId;
  • poll GET /api/rest/v1/generations/{id} (the registry's existing statusUrl);
  • download generated_images[0].motionMP4URL.

The catalog's one fictional model (phoenix, "Phoenix Video") becomes Motion 2.0 (motion-2.0 → MOTION2) and Motion 2.0 Fast (motion-2.0-fast → MOTION2FAST). phoenix still maps to Motion 2.0, so a saved combo or alias keeps working; any other value passes through as the Leonardo enum. A size of WxH picks RESOLUTION_480 (832×480) when its short side is ≤ 480, otherwise RESOLUTION_720 (1280×720, the default), keeping a portrait orientation.

Target Branch

  • Base is the active release/v3.8.x branch (release/v3.8.53), not main

Validation

Direct to Leonardo, with a real API key:

Request Result
{"modelId":"phoenix", ...} (what the handler sent) 500 {"error":"internal error","code":"unexpected"} in 0.14 s
{"modelId":"de7d3faf-…", ...} (Phoenix 1.0 UUID) 200 {"sdGenerationJob":{"generationId":…}}; polled generations_by_pk.status reached COMPLETE with generated_images[0].url, the shape the handler already reads

Through OmniRoute: npm run dev from this branch with an isolated DATA_DIR, one Leonardo API-key connection, POST /v1/images/generations:

Model Base (control, same server and data) This PR
leonardo/phoenix 500 internal error in 0.25 s 200, 1 image, 7.0 s
leonardo/sdxl — 200, 1 image, 11.4 s

Video, direct to Leonardo: the handler's old body to /generations → 400 Unexpected variable num_frames; MOTION2FAST / RESOLUTION_480 to /generations-text-to-video → 200, cost: $0.1047, polled to COMPLETE, motionMP4URL downloads as video/mp4 while url is a .jpg. Through OmniRoute on the same dev server: POST /v1/videos/generations {"model":"leonardo/motion-2.0-fast","size":"832x480"} → 200, one format: "mp4" item, a 4.9 MB ISO-MP4 file, 18.3 s.

  • Change type: bug fix (image and video provider)
  • Unit tests: tests/unit/leonardo-image-model-id.test.ts, 3 of 4 fail on the base (it sends phoenix / sdxl), 4/4 pass with the fix; image-generation-n-fanout and new-content-providers still pass (30/30 together); tests/unit/leonardo-video-generation.test.ts, 5 of 5 fail on the base, 5/5 pass; every unit test file touching the video registry or handlers: 469/470, the one failure (uc-video persona 504 timeout) fails identically with the base Leonardo files
  • typecheck:core clean; ESLint --max-warnings 0 clean on the changed files
  • quality.yml gates run locally against the merge-base: all pass except provider-asset-provenance (the base's provenance manifest names audited commit ca7fc3f5ff, which is on no upstream branch), mutation-test-coverage (5 unrelated tests missing from stryker.conf.json), dashboard-typecheck (src/shared/constants/cliTools.ts TS2353) and agent-skills-sync (unrelated generated skills); all four fail the same way on the base. complexity-ratchets passes: the video handler's new helpers keep it at the base violation count
  • Production-code changes include a new automated test

Notes

Tests Added Or Updated

  • tests/unit/leonardo-image-model-id.test.ts: against a fake Leonardo, phoenix and sdxl are submitted as their UUIDs, a raw UUID passes through, and an empty model falls back to Phoenix 1.0.
  • tests/unit/leonardo-video-generation.test.ts: against a fake Leonardo, the request goes to the text-to-video endpoint with the model enum and resolution (no modelId / num_frames); the result is the motionMP4URL bytes, not the thumbnail; motion-2.0 and phoenix both send MOTION2; 480p and portrait sizes; the catalog lists the two Motion models.

… catalog id

Leonardo's v1 generations API takes a platform-model UUID as modelId. The
handler sent the catalog id (phoenix, sdxl), which Leonardo answers with
HTTP 500 "internal error", so every leonardo/* image request failed.
Map phoenix and sdxl to the Phoenix 1.0 and SDXL 1.0 UUIDs; a raw UUID
passes through so any Leonardo model can be used.
…n the mp4

The video handler posted an image-generation body (modelId "phoenix",
num_frames) to /generations, which Leonardo rejects with 400 "Unexpected
variable num_frames", so leonardo video never worked. Submit to
/generations-text-to-video with a model enum and resolution, read
motionVideoGenerationJob, poll the generations status URL, and download
motionMP4URL (url is a jpg thumbnail). The catalog lists Motion 2.0 and
Motion 2.0 Fast; the old phoenix id maps to Motion 2.0.

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review f4a7e

The image and video fixes work for their main paths. Image requests that specify a size still return square images. Default 720p video requests may send dimensions Leonardo does not document, and a failed MP4 download can be reported as a successful video. These should be addressed before merging.

Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to f4a7e

The corrected integration can start external video jobs, but cancellation or timeout can leave that work running outside the normal completion-accounting path. Existing access policies and connection restrictions limit who can trigger this exposure.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The newly functional video path creates external jobs without retaining ownership for recovery or accounting after cancellation, timeout or partial failure. An admitted caller can abandon a submitted job while provider work may continue under the selected connection. These failure paths skip the route's normal successful-response cost recording. The lifecycle gap existed at the base, but the corrected submission contract makes it operationally reachable; provider charging and independent reconciliation are not established.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The supported exposure is external work under the caller's selected Leonardo connection and local resources used to retrieve and encode output. Where callers share that connection, abandoned jobs may consume shared provider capacity. The inspected flow does not establish authority over unrelated provider credentials or other tenants' results.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — A caller admitted to this provider can submit a job and disconnect while it is pending. Polling then returns an aborted failure without retaining a recovery handle, and the route skips successful-response cost recording. Repetition could consume provider capacity outside that accounting path, subject to configured admission limits and provider behavior. This is an architecture concern, not a demonstrated billing exploit.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The route applies API-key policy and connection scope before credential selection, rejects blocked or rate-limited credentials, and performs provider quota preflight. These controls constrain admission; they do not themselves establish ownership or settlement of a submitted job after the request terminates.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Each adapter invocation issues a fresh submission without a job idempotency key or persisted generation owner. Independent invocation-local state avoids shared-result confusion, but retries and concurrent calls are not reconciled into one external job by this adapter.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Separate external-job ownership from the HTTP request lifetime: retain the generation ID with caller and connection identity, reconcile terminal state and cost after disconnects, and use provider cancellation or idempotency where supported. Apply bounded, abort-aware network operations independently of whether remote work can be cancelled.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title follows the Conventional Commits form type(scope): subject with the allowed type "fix" and scope "sse". It names both parts of the change: Leonardo image and video generation, with the model UUID fix and the text-to-video endpoint. The changeset matches this, since it maps image model IDs to UUIDs and moves video requests to the text-to-video endpoint.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the repository template closely. It has a Summary that explains the image and video failures and the fixes. It has a Target Branch section with a checked box for release/v3.8.x. It has a Validation section with commands, reported results, and a change type. It lists the changed test files under Tests Added Or Updated. The Related Issues section has no issue numbers, so the required Closes/Related lines are unfilled. The Coverage Notes and Reviewer Notes headings are missing. The Notes section does add useful context on risks and dependent PRs.

Resolution

Fill in the Related Issues section with the linked issue numbers, or remove the placeholder lines. Add a Coverage Notes section that explains which tests cover the changes in open-sse/. Add a Reviewer Notes section, or state that there are no reviewer risks. The Notes section already covers some of this, so move its risk items there.

Full details: Tests For Production Code

Explanation

Production code changed under open-sse/, and the PR adds two focused unit-test files: tests/unit/leonardo-image-model-id.test.ts and tests/unit/leonardo-video-generation.test.ts. These tests cover the changed Leonardo image model-ID mapping, video endpoint/model/resolution handling, MP4 selection, and catalog entries.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 62.50% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 8 functions across 5 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Full details: No Ai Attribution

Explanation

All six commits in the reviewed range contain no Co-Authored-By trailer or Generated with footer. The supplied PR body also shows no prohibited attribution, but it is explicitly truncated. The full PR body is not available in the checkout or review refs, so the body check cannot be completed.

Resolution

Provide the complete PR body, including its omitted ending, and re-run the check.

Send the documented Leonardo v1 input size for 720p.

When body.size is absent, resolveLeonardoVideoSize sends width: 1280 and height: 720 with RESOLUTION_720. Leonardo's v1 Motion 2.0 guide lists 832×480 for 16:9 and 480×832 for 9:16 as the supported width and height combinations. It shows 1280×720 only as the 720p output for 832×480 input. Requests with 1280×720 or 720×1280 are outside the documented inputs. They can be rejected, or they can produce unexpected output. This affects the default request and the 720p portrait path.

Both resolutions can use the documented input size. The resolution value selects the 720p output.

Review addressed in b5f7277:

  • Image size (leonardo.ts): an OpenAI-style size such as 576x1024 is parsed into width/height; explicit width/height still win and 1024 stays the default (resolveLeonardoImageSize). This predates the PR, fixed here since the lines are touched.
  • MP4 download (leonardoHandler.ts): follows the client's abort signal (499), times out after 120 s (504), and a non-2xx download is a 502 instead of base64-encoding the error body.
  • Test teardown: both test files drain call-log saves, reset the DB and remove their DATA_DIR.
  • 720p input size: kept as 1280×720. Checked live against Leonardo on 2026-11-03: POST /generations-text-to-video with MOTION2FAST, RESOLUTION_720, width: 1280, height: 720 returned 200, the job finished COMPLETE with imageWidth: 1280, imageHeight: 720, and the mp4's track header is 1280×720, 5.06 s. The docs' 832×480 is the 480p input; Leonardo accepts the 720p size directly.

Five new tests (size parsing ×2, failed download, client abort during download, stalled download); each fails on the previous code (the two download-hang cases never finish there) and passes now. leonardo-image-model-id + leonardo-video-generation: 14/14; open-sse typecheck, typecheck:core, ESLint and the complexity ratchet clean (the video handler now passes all three complexity rules, the base exceeded max-lines).
