fix(api): honor the Claude Code exposure toggle for compatible providers (#18517) - #18522
⚠️ base-red inherited: #17219. The red CI on this PR comes from the base: src/sse/services/model.ts calls getComboByName without importing it (TS2304 in API Route Typecheck, and a ReferenceError on the combo lookup path in the unit shards), which open PR #18523 fixes; build-scope is over its 12,000 cap on the base. None of the failing files are touched here.
Summary
The Expose in Claude Code toggle on a provider's dashboard page had no effect for OpenAI-compatible providers. The page is linked by node.id, so PUT /api/providers/[id]/cc-alias stores provider:<node id> (and model:<node id>/<model>), while ccAliasPredicate.ts looks the setting up by the catalog entry's public prefix (local/...). The two keys never met, so the PUT returned 200 and /v1/models never listed a claude/<prefix>/<model> mirror.
The predicate now also checks the node id when the entry's prefix belongs to a compatible-provider node, for both the provider-level and model-level settings. The prefix key is checked first, so rows keyed by the prefix (the workaround in the issue) keep winning. The catalog already builds the prefix-to-node-id map for pricing (ctx.pricing.providerNodeIdsByPrefix), so it is passed through as-is. Storage and the dashboard are unchanged.
Out of scope: the issue's combo half. No dashboard control writes model:combo/<name>, so that is a missing UI control, not a key mismatch.

quality.yml gates run locally against the merge-base: all pass except build-scope (12,268 files against the 12,000 cap on the base; this PR adds one test file), check:dashboard-typecheck (new errors in ProxyRegistryManager.tsx, ColumnToggle.tsx, LanguageSelector.tsx and Tooltip.tsx, none touched here) and workflows (actionlint/zizmor not installed locally; no workflow changes). All three are inherited.

tests/unit/cc-alias-provider-node-key-18517.test.ts: provider-level and model-level toggles keyed by node id; prefix-key precedence; model-over-provider precedence across keys; and a applyCatalogPostFilters test with a real DB row written by setCcAliasProviderSetting(nodeId, "on").
Coverage Notes
Every new branch in ccAliasPredicate.ts is exercised by the new tests.
Reviewer Notes
The read-side fix follows the #11300 precedent (hidden-model lookups checking every key the dashboard could have written) instead of migrating stored keys, so existing provider:<node id> rows start working without a migration.
…ers (cheaper-inference#18517)
The provider page saves the cc discovery alias setting under its route id,
which for an OpenAI-compatible provider is the node id, while the /v1/models
predicate looked the setting up by the entry's public prefix. The toggle
returned 200 but never produced a claude/<prefix>/<model> mirror.
The predicate now also checks the node id for a compatible-provider prefix
(prefix key first, so rows keyed by the prefix keep winning), for both the
provider-level and model-level settings. The catalog already builds the
prefix -> node id map for pricing, so it is passed through as-is.
The catalog now lists claude/<prefix>/<model> for a toggle saved under a
compatible node's id, but the request-time resolver still read only the
prefix, so an advertised id was not stripped. Check the prefix and then the
node id for both the provider and model gates, using the catalog's winner rule.
The “Expose in Claude Code” setting now works with OpenAI-compatible providers. Enabled models appear in Claude Code’s model list and requests route through the configured provider; disabled or unset settings continue to follow existing defaults.
Claude Code alias settings for OpenAI-compatible providers are now checked by public prefix and, when mapped, by provider node ID. The catalog and request-time resolver use this mapping. Tests cover setting precedence, mirror listing, and request-time resolution.
The catalog passes provider node ID mappings to the alias predicate. The predicate checks prefix settings first, then mapped node ID settings.
Request-time alias resolution src/lib/ccDiscoveryAliasResolve.ts, tests/unit/cc-alias-provider-node-key-18517.test.ts, changelog.d/fixes/18522-cc-alias-compatible-provider-key.md
The resolver builds a prefix-to-node-ID map from cached compatible nodes and passes it to alias resolution. Tests cover settings precedence, mirror listing, and request-time behavior. The changelog describes the setting-key mismatch.
A provider using the proto prefix may not appear in Claude Code discovery. Other prefixes provide a workaround.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to cb435
The change makes existing exposure settings effective without replacing model-access checks. No authorization bypass was established in the inspected request paths. Remaining uncertainty concerns concurrent configuration changes and incomplete downstream coverage.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The effective change reaches compatible-provider aliases in model discovery and shared request transports. Its authority is alias eligibility and identity normalization; the inspected paths retain separate API-key policy enforcement for access to underlying models.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — No introduced authorization bypass was established for direct submission of an enabled Claude-prefixed alias: the inspected consumers evaluate policy after normalization. This conclusion is limited to those traced flows and does not resolve the supplied incomplete security coverage.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The existing alias-setting endpoint invokes management authentication before reading or writing settings and validates write bodies. Request clients supply model strings, while the fallback mapping comes from stored provider nodes rather than a client-supplied node identity.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — Independent node snapshots can temporarily select different owners during prefix reassignment. Local invalidation and the existing five-second TTL limit ordinary cache persistence, but cross-process invalidation was not established. The new fallback uses these snapshots for eligibility; no evidence showed that a stale eligibility decision removes downstream model authorization.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
For #18517 provider exposure, the PR checks the public prefix first and the compatible-provider node ID second in both catalog and request-time gates. The tests cover provider-level and model-level node-ID settings, precedence, mirror listing, and request resolution. The linked issue also requires a toggle that can expose database combos as claude/combo/<name>. This PR does not implement that toggle or its write path.
Resolution
Implement the combo exposure control and persist model:combo:<name> settings, then add automated coverage for combo mirror listing and request resolution.

This test injects providerNodeIdsByPrefix at the applyCatalogPostFilters boundary. It does not exercise the catalog.ts code that builds postFilterContext. The existing real /v1/models test does not cover this regression because it enables the global alias flag and does not use a node-ID setting. If providerNodeIdsByPrefix: providerNodeIdByPrefix is removed, node-ID settings can stop producing catalog mirrors while both tests still pass. Add a production-catalog-path assertion with a compatible provider node and a node-ID toggle.

Preserve node-ID lookup for the __proto__ prefix.
If an operator configures a compatible node with prefix __proto__, the catalog's plain-object assignment does not store its node ID. This lookup then reads Object.prototype instead. With the global gate off, a provider toggle saved under the node ID cannot list its mirror, although the request resolver's Map finds the toggle. Use a null-prototype map in src/app/api/v1/models/catalog.ts for providerNodeIdByPrefix. The provider-node schema permits this prefix. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
