On the Student Application there are two distinct changes are needed regarding "Married vs Common-law"
1. Remove Calendar Entry Associated with Question: Date of Marriage. We don't validate this date against study dates)
Currently the question reads: “On my first day of class I’ll be:”
-Single
-Separated/divorced/widowed
-Married/common-law
Currently, answering married/common-law prompts a singular calendar entry where student reports the date. But this calendar does not have much effect because it can’t always be validated against accurate study dates (some students opting to use the PIR process won’t have study dates yet). This calendar should be removed altogether, so that answering 'married/common-law' does not prompt any additional questions.
2. Add help text (when hovering over the '?' icon) explaining what constitutes married and common-law:
Next to 'Married/Common-law", help text should read: "The student is considered married if they will be married before their first day of classes. The student is considered common-law if they have co-habited with a person in a marriage-like relationship for at least 12 months prior to their first day of classes.
If they have been in a marriage-like relationship for less than 12 months by their first day of classes, they should report themselves as single."
