…AI_FE_IGNORED_FIELDS DYN_IGNORE_OPENAI_FE_UNSUPPORTED_FIELDS is all-or-nothing. A deployment whose clients send a known extension field (for example MiniMax's reasoning_split) has to accept every unknown field to accept that one. DYN_OPENAI_FE_IGNORED_FIELDS takes a comma-separated list of field names that /v1/chat/completions and /v1/completions drop instead of rejecting. Other unknown fields are still rejected. The boolean switch keeps its meaning and takes precedence. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Sumant Hanumante <shanumante@tenstorrent.com>

👋 Hi sumant-TT! Thank you for contributing to ai-dynamo/dynamo. Just a reminder: The 🚀 |
Clippy denies dead_code: only tests built it. Tests pass an empty name list instead. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Sumant Hanumante <shanumante@tenstorrent.com>

that truthy DYN_IGNORE_OPENAI_FE_UNSUPPORTED_FIELDS takes precedence over
DYN_OPENAI_FE_IGNORED_FIELDS and causes all unknown fields to be dropped;
clarify that “other unknown fields are still rejected” applies only when the
global switch is disabled.

Passthrough fields are validated before the ignore list is consulted, so the existing ignore-all passthrough test already covers it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Signed-off-by: Sumant Hanumante <shanumante@tenstorrent.com>

@GuanLuo a gentle follow-up: @tanmayv25 asked you on #17065 to take a look at this proposal and PR. The branch is now up to date with main (I merged it today and resolved conflicts with the new strict-schema and admin API settings), and the validation tests and clippy pass. Could you review it when you have time, or point me to someone else on the frontend team? Happy to change the approach if you'd prefer a different shape. |
Overview:
Implements contribution request #17065 (#17065).
Adds
DYN_OPENAI_FE_IGNORED_FIELDS, a comma-separated list of unknown top-level request fields that/v1/chat/completionsand/v1/completionsdrop instead of rejecting withUnsupported parameter(s). Other unknown fields are still rejected.Today the only runtime control is
DYN_IGNORE_OPENAI_FE_UNSUPPORTED_FIELDS, which is all-or-nothing. A deployment whose clients send one known extension field, such as MiniMax'sreasoning_split, has to accept every unknown field, including misspelled ones, to accept that one.Details:
lib/llm/src/protocols/openai/validate.rs:boolpassed tovalidate_no_unsupported_fields_with_ignorebecomes anIgnoredFieldsenum:All, orNamed(&HashSet<String>). An empty named set rejects every unknown field, asfalsedid.validate_no_unsupported_fieldspicksAllwhenDYN_IGNORE_OPENAI_FE_UNSUPPORTED_FIELDSis truthy, and otherwiseNamedwith the parsed list (empty when unset). So the existing switch keeps its meaning and takes precedence.PASSTHROUGH_EXTRA_FIELDS) are still type-validated even when named in the list, as they are under the existing switch.lib/runtime/src/config/environment_names.rs: declares and registers the variable.frontend-configuration.mdxgets aParamFieldfor it, andprotocol-field-handling.mdmentions it beside the existing switch.Like the existing switch, this never forwards a field to a backend:
unsupported_fieldsisskip_serializing.Where should the reviewer start?
validate_no_unsupported_fieldsandvalidate_no_unsupported_fields_with_ignoreinlib/llm/src/protocols/openai/validate.rs.Testing
cargo test -p dynamo-llm --lib protocols::openai::validate: 27 passed, including two new tests:validate_no_unsupported_fields_ignores_only_named_fields: a named field is accepted, and another unknown field in the same request is still rejected, with an error naming only that one.parse_ignored_fields_trims_and_drops_empty_items.The existing tests now pass an empty
IgnoredFields::Namedset andIgnoredFields::Allwhere they passedfalseandtrue.Run locally:
cargo fmt --checkfordynamo-llmanddynamo-runtime, andcargo clippy --no-deps --all-targets -p dynamo-llm -p dynamo-runtime -- -D warnings. Both are clean. In this PR's CI, therust-clippyandrust-testsjobs pass for all four matrix directories, along withpre-commitand DCO. The runs on NVIDIA's runners haven't started: they need/ok to testfrom a maintainer.Related Issues
