Step 7 of the build-from-source guide documents `uv pip install -e .`, but on
Python < 3.13 that command cannot succeed. `ai-dynamo` depends on
`aisimulate==0.1.0.dev1`, which requires `aiconfigurator==0.11.0.dev*`, and uv
refuses transitive pre-releases even when the direct pin is explicit:
Because there is no version of aiconfigurator==0.11.0.dev20260728 and
aisimulate==0.1.0.dev1 depends on aiconfigurator==0.11.0.dev20260728, we
can conclude that aisimulate==0.1.0.dev1 cannot be used.
And because ai-dynamo==1.5.0 depends on aisimulate ...
hint: ... pre-releases weren't enabled (try: `--prerelease=allow`)
Add `--prerelease=allow` to the command and note why it is needed. The note is
scoped to Python < 3.13, since the `aisimulate` pin carries that marker and
drops out above it.
Verified on Ubuntu 24.04 / Python 3.12: the documented command exits 1, the
same command with `--prerelease=allow` exits 0, after which
`python3 -m dynamo.frontend --help` (step 8) succeeds.
This is my first contribution to Dynamo. I hit this while bringing up a
source build on Blackwell (B300) for disaggregated-serving work, and I am
keen to do more development here -- happy to rework the fix or the wording
if maintainers prefer a different approach.

Review of head a1383c2: 1 must-fix, 4 consider. All repo gates green, and the command change itself is correct - both the failure and the fix were reproduced end to end (default-strategy resolution of the aisimulate pin fails with the exact documented error; --prerelease=allow resolves the full chain).
Must-fix
docs/fern/pages/developer-guide/advanced-customizations/building-from-source.md:85- the added explanation names the wrong refused package: uv acceptstfp-nightlytransitively (every one of its published versions is a pre-release, so the defaultif-necessary-or-explicitstrategy allows it - verified by resolution), while the packages uv actually refuses areaiconfiguratorandaiconfigurator-core(both have stable releases, so no exemption applies; the doc also omits the second one). Minimal fix:`aisimulate==0.1.0.dev1` is a pre-release, and it in turn pins the pre-releases `aiconfigurator==0.11.0.dev20260728` and `aiconfigurator-core==0.11.0.dev20260728`.
Consider
- The NOTE below the fix still quotes the bare
uv pip install -e .; a reader copying from the NOTE hits the exact failure this PR fixes. - The zh-CN mirror of this page still documents the failing command; translation parity is not CI-enforced, so it will not go red on its own.
- Three exact pre-release versions are hardcoded into prose and rot on the next bump; version-free wording ("the base dependency
aisimulateis currently a pre-release and pins further pre-release packages") ages better. - Repo-side alternative the maintainers may prefer: one line,
prerelease = "allow"under the existing[tool.uv]table, makes every documenteduv pip install -e .work flagless from the repo root (verified empirically that uv pip resolution picks it up) - and fixes the same failing command in README.md and several other pages at once; tradeoff is project-wide pre-release acceptance.
Also for release planning, not this PR: the 1.5.0 wheel will ship the aisimulate pin for Python below 3.13, so plain uv pip install ai-dynamo on 3.12 hits this same refusal at release time unless the pin goes stable or install guidance changes.
Verified sound: the flag and value exist on uv pip install; "required on Python < 3.13" exactly matches the marker and aisimulate's requires-python; the quoted pin versions are verbatim correct; the bare < renders fine in this Fern setup; links and conventions clean.
Comment-only review; severity calls stay with the human reviewers.

Step 7 of the build-from-source guide documents
uv pip install -e ., but ai-dynamo depends on a pre-release of aiconfigurator and uv rejects pre-releases by default, so the documented command cannot succeed:Add
