Thanks for fixing this! It's testing well for me:
✅ With a clamp()
rule being used for wideSize
, the fluid logic now uses the fallback value instead
✅ The maximum viewport width can still be overridden by setting fluid.maxViewportWidth
✅ Smoke tested fluid support is otherwise working as intended
Not a blocker to landing, but in a follow-up, we might want to add tests to cover these cases, too? In JS, I think it might be fairly straightforward to at least add another test here, but it might be a little bit more complex to add a PHP test for the similar behaviour 🤔
In any case, it's testing well for me, and is a fairly simple logic change, so LGTM! ✨

Thanks for fixing this. I can integrate these changes into the backport patch if folks have no objections: |
Thanks for following up @ramonjd, combining into the one backport sounds good to me since it's all related to viewport width 👍 |
We'll need a separate patch for 6.3.1 because the configurable min/max is only landing in 6.4. |
Ah no worries. I'll leave it then. Thanks for the confirmation. |
I just put up a backport PR: WordPress/wordpress-develop#5006 |

What?
Fixes this bug. Fluid typography shouldn't break if the layout wideSize setting is also a fluid value.
In testing this I noticed that
layout.wideSize
isn't working in the editor as a max viewport width for fluid font sizes. It's working correctly in the front end. Not sure why yet, but probably best fixed separately.Todo: add a couple of tests to cover this bug.
Testing Instructions
settings.layout.wideSize
toclamp(1076px, 85vw, 2120px)
.settings.typography.fluid: true
