Summary

Follow-up to #262 — one review fix commit that was created locally but not pushed before the PR merged.

  • plugin.py: Strengthened subscribe duck-typing check to also verify callable(), aligning with the kernel's contract registry pattern (hasattr + callable guard)
  • service_kernel.py: Documented the config.name graceful degradation as intentional OMN-1992 behavior, not a regression from fail-fast

Test plan

  • Pre-commit hooks pass (mypy, architecture validation) — verified on push
  • Existing PluginRegistration and kernel bootstrap tests continue to pass

Summary by CodeRabbit

Bug Fixes

  • Strengthened event bus validation to ensure the subscribe capability is callable and operational before use, preventing potential silent failures during event system startup
  • Enhanced service kernel boot resilience to gracefully degrade when required configuration name fields are missing, enabling continued operation in limited capacity instead of halting startup

…ign subscribe check

- Documented: service_kernel.py config.name error log is intentional
graceful degradation (OMN-1992), not a regression from fail-fast
- Fixed: plugin.py subscribe capability check now uses hasattr() +
callable() guard, matching the kernel's contract registry pattern

Review iteration: 1/10

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Two files receive defensive programming improvements: stricter duck-typing validation for event bus subscribe capability in the plugin orchestrator, and graceful degradation for missing runtime configuration name fields to enable optional introspection scenarios.

Changes

Cohort / File(s) Summary
Event Bus Validation
src/omnibase_infra/nodes/node_registration_orchestrator/plugin.py
Adds stricter duck-typing check verifying subscribe is callable, not just present. Alters control flow to skip consumers when subscribe exists but is non-callable.
Configuration Resilience
src/omnibase_infra/runtime/service_kernel.py
Implements graceful degradation by logging an error and allowing boot to continue when runtime_config.yaml lacks the name field, leaving plugin_node_identity as None instead of failing.

Poem

🐰 A hop through the code, we make it more sound,
With checks that are stricter and graceful falldown,
Duck-typing grows wiser, configurations forgiving,
Our kernels now boot with more room for living! ✨
