Reviewed b5438c2. The update fixes the launcher path-expansion defect. FlashInfer and Ray retain separate cache paths for each worker. I found no remaining P0 or P1 code issues.
Two P2 items (non-blocking):
- Complete the test coverage. In test_unified_cache.py, add a case with
TRTLLM_FLASHINFER_WORKSPACE_PER_PROCESS=0. Add Ray tests for default isolation andTRTLLM_DEEP_GEMM_CACHE_PER_PROCESS=0. Also test preservation of explicit cache paths. Remove the multi-device requirement from the mocked MPI tests. The new module is absent from the CI test lists. Add it to the applicable list, or identify it as a local or QA test module. - Clarify explicit cache-path precedence. In gpu_worker.py, an explicit
DG_JIT_CACHE_DIRequal to<TRTLLM_CACHE_DIR>/deep_gemmchanges to a per-worker path. The documentation says explicit values take precedence. Preserve the explicit value, or document this exception. Add a test for this case.
Overall LGTM once these are addressed. Thanks for the PR!
- Clarifying in the docs that in order to disable per-worker isolation (if TRTLLM_DEEP_GEMM_CACHE_PER_PROCESS is not set), a path different from the default TRT-LLM unified cache must be chosen; - Adding test for cache isolation under Ray. - Added FlashInfer coverage for TRTLLM_FLASHINFER_WORKSPACE_PER_PROCESS=0. - Added compact, parametrized Ray/DeepGEMM coverage for: - Default unified-cache isolation. - Explicit unified path isolation exception. - TRTLLM_DEEP_GEMM_CACHE_PER_PROCESS=0. - Preservation of a genuinely explicit cache path. - Added FlashInfer explicit-path preservation coverage. - Removed the multi-device skips from mocked MPI tests. - Made mocked MPIPoolExecutor injection work in CPU-only builds using raising=False. - Centralized isolation-environment cleanup in the fixture. Thanks for taking a look @chienchunhung - I addressed point 2 with commits b0cb42a and cb1211b, as well as point 1 with a5899dd. Tests are passing locally, will now re-run the CI. |

…fied cache tests NVIDIA#18897 (unified TRTLLM_CACHE_DIR caching) landed on main after the stale-forwarded-env fix was cherry-picked. Rebasing onto it: - the worker env bootstrap now drops the same variables MpiPoolSession forwards on main (TRTLLM*/TLLM*, _UNIFIED_CACHE_ENV_VARS, FLASHINFER_CUBIN_DIR, MASTER_ADDR/MASTER_PORT), so a stale unified cache variable cannot survive in a worker either; - the FlashInfer-isolated worker keeps NVIDIA#18897's TRTLLM_CACHE_DIR-derived workspace root. Every worker now starts with the env bootstrap, so update test_unified_cache.py the same way the cherry-pick updated test_flashinfer_workspace.py: plain workers run the bootstrap plus the mpi4py server main instead of python_args=None, and isolated workers run it in front of the FlashInfer bootstrap. …remote MPI failures and launcher shutdown Forward-port of release/1.3 PR NVIDIA#19664 (release/1.3 commit 54d1614) to main. Adapted to main's client sys.path propagation (NVIDIA#19494): the rewritten RemoteMpiCommSessionServer.serve() passes message.sys_path to task_wrapper, and the new server lifecycle test calls task_wrapper with an empty path. Main's TRTLLM_CACHE_DIR launcher test (NVIDIA#18897) now uses the shared launcher test helpers, so its stubbed MPI server waits for the stop request like the other launcher tests instead of exiting before the task. No integration test-list entry changed.Description
TRT-LLM currently uses a large variety of caches (e.g., Flashinfer, DeepGEMM, auto-tuner) that can all be configured via separate environment variables, which is cumbersome for end users. At the same time, leveraging warmed-up caches is a good way to speed up TRT-LLM startup and avoid re-compilation of JIT artifacts.
This PR simplifies the above by introducing a
TRTLLM_CACHE_DIRenvironment variable which, when set, sets a single root cache directory, under which all known framework caches will be contained. At the momentTRTLLM_CACHE_DIRcontrols the following:TLLM_AUTOTUNER_CACHE_PATHTORCHINDUCTOR_CACHE_DIRTRITON_CACHE_DIRTORCH_EXTENSIONS_DIRFLASHINFER_WORKSPACE_BASECUTE_DSL_CACHE_DIRDG_JIT_CACHE_DIRTRTLLM_DG_CACHE_DIRCUDA_CACHE_PATHIf any of these variables is explicitly set alongside
TRTLLM_CACHE_DIR, then the framework-specific environment variables will take precedence. Also note that theTRTLLM_DG_JIT_DUMP_CUBINenvironment variable will be set automatically together withTRTLLM_CACHE_DIR, in order to enable cubin dumping in DeepGEMM atTRTLLM_DG_CACHE_DIR. Additional caches could be added in the future using the same mechanism. The unified caching implementation does not collide with the per-rank cache isolation mechanism implemented for Flashinfer: generally, isolation will be enabled if neither of
TRTLLM_CACHE_DIRorFLASHINFER_WORKSPACE_BASEare set.Test Coverage
A series of focused tests was added to ensure that cache priorities are respected (e.g., individual framework caches over
TRTLLM_CACHE_DIR), that Flashinfer isolation works as expected, and that the proper environment variables are passed from the main process to the MPI workers.
