Summary

  • migrate frontend lint to ESLint flat config (packages/frontend/eslint.config.js) to remove TS/TSX parser failures on ESLint v10
  • run package-level lint commands in CI quality gates (frontend + backend) in addition to root lint
  • scope backend lint to active quality-gate paths and add explicit debt tracking issue tech debt: clear backend strict lint debt and remove guardrail ignores #136
  • document lint workflow + debt tracking in README/CHANGELOG

Test plan

  • npm run lint
  • npm run lint --workspace=packages/frontend
  • npm run type:check --workspace=packages/frontend
  • npm run lint --workspace=packages/backend

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Improved TypeScript and TSX file parsing in ESLint to ensure compatibility with ESLint 10.
  • Chores

    • Enhanced continuous integration linting verification to run across all packages.
    • Backend linting now provides better visibility into technical debt through enhanced tracking and reporting.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

CI workflow updated to run lint commands across root and workspace packages (frontend, backend). Backend lint scripts now exclude specific patterns with added lint:full target. Frontend migrated to ESLint flat config format. Documentation updated to reflect new linting scope and commands.

Changes

Cohort / File(s) Summary
CI and Documentation
.github/workflows/ci.yml, CHANGELOG.md, README.md
CI lint step refactored to invoke package-level lint commands for frontend and backend workspaces. Changelog and README updated to document new lint behavior and backend debt-tracking via lint:full script.
Backend Linting
packages/backend/package.json
lint and lint:fix scripts now exclude specific source patterns via --ignore-pattern. New lint:full script added to run ESLint without exclusions.
Frontend ESLint Configuration
packages/frontend/eslint.config.js, packages/frontend/package.json
New ESLint flat config file introduced with TypeScript/TSX parsing, React Hooks rules, and targeted overrides. Frontend lint script updated to reference explicit config file and removed --ext flag and --report-unused-disable-directives.

15-16: Deduplicate the temporary ignore list.

lint and lint:fix repeat the same ignore set, so the debt carve-out will drift the first time a path is added or removed in only one script. Move the ignore patterns into ESLint config or a shared base script and let lint:fix only add --fix.

In @.github/workflows/ci.yml:
- Around line 34-37: The root CI step runs npm run lint before the
workspace-specific commands which causes the root ESLint config to scan
packages/frontend/src and packages/backend/src and trigger old-parser/backend
failures; update the workflow so the root lint is scoped to root-owned files
only or remove the initial root npm run lint invocation and only run npm run
lint --workspace=packages/frontend and npm run lint
--workspace=packages/backend; specifically either change the root "npm run lint"
script to target only root files (e.g., adjust the root package.json "lint"
script to an explicit glob for root config/files) or delete/skip the plain "npm
run lint" line in the CI and keep the two workspace-specific commands (npm run
lint --workspace=packages/frontend and npm run lint
--workspace=packages/backend).
- Around line 34-37: The lint step currently runs after "Build shared package";
move the lint invocations (the three commands invoking npm run lint, npm run
lint --workspace=packages/frontend, and npm run lint
--workspace=packages/backend) so they execute before the build phase, or
alternatively relocate the npm run build:shared command into the build phase and
leave only the minimal generation step that lint requires in setup;
specifically, ensure the CI job follows lint → build → test → quality order by
placing the npm run lint commands in the Lint phase and moving npm run
build:shared into the Build phase (refer to the run lines invoking "npm run
lint" and the "npm run build:shared" step to find the relevant blocks).

🔇 Additional comments (1)
packages/frontend/eslint.config.js (1)

7-15: ESLint v10 flat config syntax is correct, but the premise about a previous guardrail is unsupported.

While linterOptions.reportUnusedDisableDirectives: 'error' is valid ESLint v10 syntax, the claim that "the previous frontend lint command enforced --report-unused-disable-directives" is not supported by the codebase. No git history shows this flag in the lint script, the old .eslintrc.cjs does not explicitly set it, and ESLint's default behavior for this option is "warn" regardless of config format. If the intent is to enforce stricter linting (error instead of warn), that's a valid improvement, but it's not a regression—the config migration preserves the default behavior.

⚠️ Potential issue | 🟠 Major

Root lint still overrides the new workspace-specific lint behavior.

npm run lint executes the repo-level ESLint config before the frontend/backend workspace commands. From the provided snippets, that root pass already traverses packages/frontend/src and packages/backend/src, so frontend can still fail on the old parser path and backend debt files can still fail before the workspace-specific config/ignores apply. Scope root lint to root-owned files only, or stop having the root config match package sources here.

In @.github/workflows/ci.yml around lines 34 - 37, The root CI step runs npm run
lint before the workspace-specific commands which causes the root ESLint config
to scan packages/frontend/src and packages/backend/src and trigger
old-parser/backend failures; update the workflow so the root lint is scoped to
root-owned files only or remove the initial root npm run lint invocation and
only run npm run lint --workspace=packages/frontend and npm run lint
--workspace=packages/backend; specifically either change the root "npm run lint"
script to target only root files (e.g., adjust the root package.json "lint"
script to an explicit glob for root config/files) or delete/skip the plain "npm
run lint" line in the CI and keep the two workspace-specific commands (npm run
lint --workspace=packages/frontend and npm run lint
--workspace=packages/backend).

⚠️ Potential issue | 🟠 Major

Keep lint ahead of all build work in this job.

This step still runs after Build shared package, so the workflow does not follow the required lint → build → test → quality order. Move npm run build:shared into the build phase, or split out only the minimal generation step that lint actually depends on.
As per coding guidelines, "CI/CD pipeline must include in order: Setup (Node install, env config) → Lint (TypeScript typecheck, linter) → Build (production build, artifacts) → Test (unit, integration, coverage) → Quality (static analysis, vulnerability scan)"

In @.github/workflows/ci.yml around lines 34 - 37, The lint step currently runs
after "Build shared package"; move the lint invocations (the three commands
invoking npm run lint, npm run lint --workspace=packages/frontend, and npm run
lint --workspace=packages/backend) so they execute before the build phase, or
alternatively relocate the npm run build:shared command into the build phase and
leave only the minimal generation step that lint requires in setup;
specifically, ensure the CI job follows lint → build → test → quality order by
placing the npm run lint commands in the Lint phase and moving npm run
build:shared into the Build phase (refer to the run lines invoking "npm run
lint" and the "npm run build:shared" step to find the relevant blocks).
