Why

Support BAGEL (BAGEL-7B-MoT) on the SeedOmni graph architecture so unified multimodal understanding, text-to-image generation, and image editing can train and run inference as composable SeedOmni modules with module-level ops_config (#1379), instance-local VeomniOp dispatch (#1142 / #1314), FSDP2 × Async Ulysses sequence parallelism, and two-stage offline VAE posterior caching (#1279).

What does this PR do?

  • Module-level SeedOmni Bagel implementation (veomni/models/seed_omni/modules/bagel/):
    • Decompose BAGEL-7B-MoT into five SeedOmni modules: bagel_vae (FLUX-style latent codec with OfflineEncodingMixin), bagel_siglip_navit (variable-resolution NaViT visual encoder), bagel_flow_connector (rectified-flow connector and Euler denoise state), bagel_text_encoder (token embeddings, multimodal chat template, and LM head), and bagel_qwen2_mot (packed Mixture-of-Transformers backbone routing understanding and generation tokens).
    • Add convert_model.py to split official BAGEL-7B-MoT checkpoints (ema.safetensors + ae.safetensors) into the 5-subfolder SeedOmni HF layout, and checkpoint_conversion.py (WeightConverter + load pre-hook) so accelerated fused qkv_proj_{und,gen} weights round-trip cleanly with split q/k/v_proj HF checkpoints.
    • Add training (train/, offline_cache/, with_cache/) and inference (infer/graph_infer_{und,gen,edit}.yaml, infer/modules_infer_{eager,fsdp}.yaml) configs under configs/seed_omni/Bagel/bagel_7b_mot/ and documentation in docs/seed_omni/models/bagel.md.
  • Instance-local VeomniOp and module-level ops_config adaptation:
    • Bind instance-local VeomniOp handles (rms_norm, swiglu_mlp, rope, cross_entropy_loss, and attention) from each module's config.ops_config at construction time across BagelQwen2MoT, BagelSiglipNavit, and BagelTextEncoder.
    • Support LoraLinear-wrapped projections across MoT attention (automatically falling back from async Ulysses to the synchronous projection path), BagelFlowConnector, and BagelSiglipNavit.
  • bagel variant for Async Ulysses compound ops (veomni/ops/kernels/async_ulysses/{qkv_proj,o_proj}/bagel/):
    • Register ("async_ulysses_qkv", "bagel") and ("async_ulysses_o", "bagel") in OP_REGISTRY to overlap MoT dual-branch (und / gen) routed Q/K/V and O projections, per-head QK RMSNorm, and packed RoPE with sequence-parallel all-to-all communication during forward and backward.
  • End-to-end training and FSM inference:
    • Support packed MoT training with FlexAttention (and SM100+ CUTE DSL/JIT MagiAttention), two-stage offline VAE posterior caching, and FSM inference for infer_und, infer_gen, and infer_edit (forwarding generation_kwargs to OmniProcessor in OmniInferencer).

Test

All new and updated tests sit under existing CI-collected paths (tests/seed_omni, tests/ops, and tests/utils/test_save_safetensor_utils.py in scripts/ci/accelerator/suites/{gpu,npu}.json):

  • Unit & distributed tests (8×H20 & CPU):
    • tests/ops/async_ulysses/test_async_ulysses.py & tests/ops/base/test_builtin_entries.py: 28 passed, 1 skipped (single-process forward/backward parity for ("async_ulysses_{qkv,o}", "bagel") and registry checks).
    • tests/seed_omni/modules/bagel/:
      • CPU suite (test_processing.py, test_qwen2_mot.py, test_generation.py, test_masking.py, test_graph_config.py, test_source_routing.py, test_bagel_eager.py): 76 passed (preprocessing, QKV checkpoint round-trip, VeomniOp instance isolation, LoRA fallback, per-image flow timesteps, multi-image SigLIP FLOPs, and FSM state transitions).
      • GPU alignment & 4-GPU distributed SP2 parity (test_bagel_accel_align.py, test_bagel_eager.py, test_async_ulysses.py): 23 passed, 4 skipped (eager SDPA vs accelerated FlexAttention CE/MSE/grad alignment, and 4-GPU sync vs async Ulysses step-1 and multi-step parameter parity with FSDP2 + activation checkpointing).
  • End-to-end 8×H20 verification on BAGEL-7B-MoT:
    Workflow Config / Mode Result
    Online training train/base.yaml (FSDP2 × Async Ulysses, ulysses_size=4, dp_shard=2, 4-source mixed data, 50 steps) Completed 50/50 steps (~3.8s/it steady-state, peak VRAM 41.28 GB, total_loss: 0.69 → 1.20 with decode_velocity 0.16 and text_encoder.decode 1.05)
Offline VAE cache (Stage 1) offline_cache/base.yaml (training_task=offline_embedding, 50 steps) Completed 50/50 steps in 33s (5.39 it/s, peak VRAM 6.08 GB), writing 200 cached samples per DP rank
    Cached training (Stage 2) with_cache/base.yaml (training_task=offline_training, seedomni_cached, 50 steps) Completed 50/50 steps (~4.3s/it steady-state, peak VRAM 39.33 GB with bagel_vae on meta device, total_loss: 1.22 → 0.96)
Real-checkpoint inference infer_und, infer_gen (50 Euler steps), infer_edit (50 Euler steps, dual SigLIP + VAE context) with FlexAttention All 3 modes completed cleanly with coherent image description, watercolor landscape generation, and winter-scene image editing

Usage

Convert the official BAGEL-7B-MoT checkpoint into the SeedOmni 5-module layout:

python -m veomni.models.seed_omni.modules.bagel.convert_model \
  --src /path/to/raw/BAGEL-7B-MoT \
  --dst /path/to/converted/BAGEL-7B-MoT

Run online training (FSDP2 + Async Ulysses SP4) or two-stage offline VAE cached training:

# Online training
bash train.sh tasks/omni/train_omni.py \
  configs/seed_omni/Bagel/bagel_7b_mot/train/base.yaml \
  --model.accelerator.ulysses_size 4 \
  --train.micro_batch_size 1

# Two-stage offline VAE posterior cache + training
bash train.sh tasks/omni/train_omni.py \
  configs/seed_omni/Bagel/bagel_7b_mot/offline_cache/base.yaml
bash train.sh tasks/omni/train_omni.py \
  configs/seed_omni/Bagel/bagel_7b_mot/with_cache/base.yaml

Run understanding (infer_und), text-to-image (infer_gen), or image editing (infer_edit):

python tasks/omni/infer_omni.py \
  configs/seed_omni/Bagel/bagel_7b_mot/train/base.yaml \
  --model.model_config.infer_type infer_und \
  --model.model_config.modules configs/seed_omni/Bagel/bagel_7b_mot/infer/modules_infer_eager.yaml \
  --model.model_path /path/to/converted/BAGEL-7B-MoT \
  --infer.images tests/testdata/qwen-vl-demo.jpeg \
--infer.prompt "Describe this image in detail." \
  --infer.output_dir outputs/bagel_infer

See docs/seed_omni/models/bagel.md for full training, caching, and inference options.

Add focused accelerator placement-and-forward coverage for native BagelVAE.

The current CPU-only test checks _no_split_modules, but it does not exercise automatic placement or a VAE forward pass. A placement regression can therefore pass while a ResnetBlock or AttnBlock is split incorrectly and later fails during execution. Add a focused test on one supported accelerator that performs automatic placement and runs a small encode or decode pass.

[P2] SP-sharded VAE sampling can leave different CUDA RNG states (512² versus 960² images consume different Philox offsets on 34-SM Ada). preprocess_latent_embed then produces inconsistent noise, timesteps, and velocity targets across SP ranks for one sample. Isolate VAE sampling from the flow RNG stream, or sample posteriors after gathering.

Fixed in a2c8857: under SP, BagelVAEAccelerated.encode now returns the un-sampled (mean, logvar) posteriors and encode_post samples them in full batch order after gathering across sp_group (matching online_process and sp_size == 1), so all SP ranks advance the RNG identically before preprocess_latent_embed. Also isolated SP-sharded BagelSiglipNavitAccelerated attention dropout under fork_rng and added regression coverage in test_bagel_vae_sp_samples_posteriors_after_gather_and_keeps_flow_rng_aligned.

[P2] Under SP, encode now returns unsampled posteriors, and encode_post gathers them before sampling in full batch order on every rank. This removes the rank-local VAE RNG advancement reported here.
