"ALTER INSTANCE ROTATE INNODB MASTER KEY" crashes maxwell #1970

Hello,
We recently rotated the innodb master key on one of our instances which maxwell reads binlog from and it stopped working. I was able to fix maxwell by manually starting it at a position of the next command, skipping "ALTER INSTANCE ROTATE INNODB MASTER KEY". I forgot to take a snippet of the error but basically it said that the ALTER statement failed. If needed I can run this again to get the exact error.
Please let me know if this is a known issue or if it has been fixed recently (I tried searching but couldn't find anything)
