While compaction runs, show "Compacting thread…" with a spinner, reusing the existing "Context Compacted" entry UI. Both during and after compaction a dropdown lets you expand the summary and watch it stream in; provider-native compaction has no summary and shows no dropdown. Cancelling the turn mid-compaction now removes the in-progress entry so the UI stops showing the spinner.
